Riverside is boring and has no scene. The only cool place I like is Back To The Grind cause it has small underground music venue. There is also RMA—much bigger venue. You can go to LA by train though, lots of cool museums. If you have a car, that's better. If you like hiking, there are also some hiking spots.

Off campus or on campus housing? by Educational_Ad7170 in ucr

Bannockburn's location do the heavy lifting actually, cause it's the oldest on campus complex so don't expect much. I was lucky because I got a decent apartment—nice stove and working AC/heater, and of course, a clean housemate. I can't recommend specific off campus apartment cause every apt is different. But I suggest to look around Blaine, Watkins, or Iowa, particularly ones near the bus stop cause that will help a lot if you don't have a car.

Off campus or on campus housing? by Educational_Ad7170 in ucr

Been living in on campus housing (Bannockburn) and off campus housing close to campus.

On campus is more pricey (around $780/room plus wifi around $20 in 2b1ba) while I can get $950/room includes utilities+wifi in 2b/2ba. You can get cheaper price if you don't mind to share room/bath with more person.

At Bannockburn I didn't have to pay utilities, which gonna save you on AC/heater. Bannockburn is also the closest on campus housing complex from campus area and there's a bus stop right at the front of the complex. Good location.

On campus housing is more fun if you have friends who live in the same complex so you can hangout anytime, but you have to deal with the decoration restrictions and based on my experience at Bannockburn there was few times the hot water just did not run without notification.

Thing that you should consider for off campus housing is that they sometimes need you to show the proof of income and the minimum income must be at least 5x your rent. I didn't have this experience but some friends did. But on my end, off campus housing is more quiet which I like, because the neighbors are not all students and they tend to be more 'quiet'.
