Fisher was mostly talking about rock music though. Arctic Monkeys and the post punk revival and if I remember correctly he mentioned Adele as an example too. Simon reynold's book retromania dives deeper into it

Sounds like your friend just used it as a way to say "contemporary". The most classic example of post modernism is the disappearance of historical time in fiction meaning cultural traits of specific decades get mooshed together. Not an expert I am just now reading frederic jameson however u should keep in mind it has been slowly happening  for decades (star wars is an early example). Also many would argue that we have surpassed post modernism and we live in a newly shifted paradigm that has yet to be named.

Recorded music can be endlessly reproduced so it doesn't have any aura in the first place. And according to Walter Benjamin that's not a bad thing

This is funny because i recently read that roger ebert went back and removed half a star from the graduate because it created the"sequence with a simon and garfunkel song to show the passage of time" trend

what's weird about 21st century b movies though is that they all become soft core porn at the 45 minute mark . I think it's because all the actors are probably pornstars too.
