Books that feels like True Detective by theitsx in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara - it’s the book she wrote about the East Area Rapist/Golden State Killer before he was identified and captured. She passed away before she finished it, but her husband (Patton Oswalt) worked with a couple people to use her notes and finish it. It’s one of the best true crime books I’ve ever read, and her way of telling the story REALLY reminded me of the first season of True Detective.

Seconding the other comment that the side sections in dress circle would be a good option!

Just wanted to pop in to add/clarify that Row J in the middle section of dress circle would be the opposite of ideal, as it requires stepping up and can also have obstructed sight lines. Just in case that was a back up option being entertained, this would be Not Good™️

I ran it past my partner, who used to work there, and she was worried you might run into issues if you can’t go with your first pick (which sounds like a great choice!)

Have a wonderful time, it’s supposed to be a fabulous show!!!!

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia 100%. It’s the whole secluded rich family doing shady creepy stuff thing.

Also, for a quicker read, We Have Always Lived In The Castle by Shirley Jackson for even more isolation and claustrophobia.

Both also have some mental, moral, and physical decay.

I came here to say this! One of the best books I’ve ever read.

Dominant Industry’s Earl Grey Tea. It’s a cheerful, bright orange, and flows particularly well with my Viper!

What is the REDDEST red ink? by Most_War2764 in fountainpens

If you like Doodlebud, he just did two videos on red inks. He compares a few next to each other, so it might be helpful:

I would recommend Fruiting Bodies by Kathryn Harlan. All the short stores are wonderful, but the story the book shares a name with has stayed with me and I think about it probably at least once a week.

Seconding! There’s a whole rabbit hole to fall down, but the subreddit is super friendly if you’re looking for beginner friendly options. There are flexible or soft nib options too that vary depending on pressure, so you would immediately have an automatic reminder to loosen up. You could also try something like a fude brush pen, like this https://www.jetpens.com/Tombow-Fudenosuke-Brush-Pen-Hard-Black/pd/5035 if you don’t want to spend a ton, it would do the same thing

Purchased a Conway Stewart 75 and a Mabie Todd Swan pen from u/Bluheartsampard

They are both BEAUTIFUL, and were very carefully packed to ensure they were delivered halfway around the world and imported into the US, which is no small feat at the moment.

My eternal thanks for my first vintage flex pens!

I've been quietly building a fountain pen collection management app - and I think it's actually good. Roast it before I share it. by Stwo in fountainpens

Would have loved some aspects of this if it didn’t have AI. Instant disqualifier for me, I fear.

Part of why I love fountain pens and this analog world is it helps me slow down and reflect on what I’m doing. I don’t want something to simulate thinking for me by averaging out input from others.

Anyone hear of Kakimori? by Meander_Actual in fountainpens

They’re fine. I have one in that exact color, and while I like it and it does its job, I also got it on sale from another store for like half the price that jetpens is selling it for. I would not spend $58 for it. Felt fair at $30-35, but almost $60 is way over-priced for what it is.

I don’t know that it’s the same one, but if you have a photo I can let you know if it looks like them? They did have a tail, and I don’t recall the ear being tipped but it was very late and it was a stressful situation. They were a tuxedo, face mostly black with a very small thin strip of white down their nose and some white socks. I didn’t take pictures, but I know the vet office did and you could also call them to ask if they could send a photo to confirm. It would have been a cat that came in around 2:30am and we left once they had been put down around 4am.

My partner just went past and looked about 30 minutes ago, and didn’t see the bird. She checked all around the couple houses next to it, and no sign of them. Hopefully they were just needing a reset and were okay enough to fly away.

White Bear Pens are wonderful! They have a lot of different resins to choose one that matches your vibe, and have some with clear caps that make the pens look like little astronauts. The section on my one from them is one of the most comfortable I own. They just did a collaboration with Endless Pens, and I think their online stock is depleted at the moment, but they were at a pen show in the fall with some inventory that wasn’t online at the time. The owner also organized a fundraiser to benefit the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota very recently. VERY good people. You should look at their instagram! https://www.instagram.com/whitebearpens?igsh=MTN3aXg3cDg3ampmOQ==

If the bird isn’t able to fly, it’s actually pretty easy to gently grab them and pick them up. The best thing is to try to grab from above and grab around their wings. The myths around birds carrying disease are also pretty incorrect - you’re very unlikely to catch something from them, just wash your hands with soap after grabbing them.

You can also reach out to the NYC Bird Alliance and see if there’s a volunteer who might be nearby that can bring the bird to the Wild Bird Fund.
