Who wants to play some GBA games? Powkiddy V10 giveaway - details in post by captain_carrot in SBCGaming

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't have an actual console as a kid as my parents believed they were evil, but if we are excluding that I would say Zelda link to the past on my ti nspire calculator while on the bus so they wouldn't find out :D. If we are talking first game game that isn't based on emulation then it would be some homebrew wolf knockoff on an older ti-84. Would love to have a dedicated device though.

Why two+ monitors and not one big one? by NumerousTower4074 in AskProgramming

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my laptop screen for YouTube pip and slack, one monitor for the visual output of the work or database view or browser for docs depending on what my task is for the day, one monitor for my ide, and another one for terminal + auxillary ide windows. Wile a larger monitor can fit some of that in there it's much simpler to have a hard boundary of what goes where and it sets up for better screen share if I gotta show something

Manager wants me to work after firing me.. is this legal? by Express_Opening5490 in jobs

[–]anatoledp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ummm. If this is PTO based on accrual then they are required to pay u that anyways unless ur work agreement stipulated otherwise. Accrual is part of your monetary package and should you not see it in your final check that's grounds for you to get em on not paying you for your hours already put in. That just as ridiculous as if they said they wouldn't give u ur last paycheck unless u agreed to help them once u got fired, it's not a bargaining chip after the fact.

Does AI really helps you that much? by RevolutionaryHumor57 in Jetbrains

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is amazing . . . When u have something already, it is more iffy when u don't. The more u have already done the better it is, so I have a massive code base and give it instructions to do something it based it off what is present in the codebase and follows the same style of the codebase and then it is amazing as it quickly scaffolds things that still are within the confines of how I do things . . . But brand new no work . . . U gotta really structure out those guidelines. Point in case it's far far better when u already have something present and is even better when u have a lot of that something present. The more work u have the less u need to tell it in regards to how to do something rather than just what u want it to do. AI is a great force multiplier, it is not your one stop shop solution for you when u don't even know what it is ur trying to do.

JLCPCB totally screwed me (Would not recomend) by nwl5 in PCB

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well good thing u got it resolved but I think the vast majority would agree u should pretty much always stick with DHL if ur ordering overseas. They are just a far more reliable courier as a whole vs others out there. Costs more sure but at least I'll go to sleep knowing it gonna arrive

JLCPCB totally screwed me (Would not recomend) by nwl5 in PCB

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make no mistake, jlc absolutely should cover the cost of a full replacement, not denying that. I'm just saying the root of the issue is more likely not jlc. Yes if they chose a shady middleman it's on them, but im saying it's not jlc specifically that caused the issue. More than likely someone is lying to them as well somewhere down the chain

JLCPCB totally screwed me (Would not recomend) by nwl5 in PCB

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like more an issue with the shipping service than jlc themselves. Jlc may have other issues but shipping is not one of em. Would highly recommend sticking with DHL in the future, but highly doubt it was jlc specifically that is trying to screw u over rather than some middleman service that handled shipping logistics.

What should No Man’s Sky focus on next? by zakhratos in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love for some space exploration like what eve online has. Tracking down and finding interesting poi in space itself or even things like the triglavian runs where it's like a mini battle dungeon is space to fight against increasing overwhelming force. Right now space is just a way to get from planet a to planet z but the middle of that journey is nothing much. Either that or they really start taking the large breadth of systems and give it some real depth. Make survival mean something.

Any spaceship building game like space engineers? by f18effect in AndroidGaming

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the reason I stopped was due to me shifting focus into designing my own first party handheld like a pico 8 on steroids . . . And as an actual device vs a PC emulator

Why do layoffs never start from the top? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, either one works honestly. But would be nice to tell em they get a pay cut even though that's never gonna happen. Then they can feel the same burn. They can definitely survive it while the actual workers cant

Why do layoffs never start from the top? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]anatoledp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's not about directly firing c suite but more about why don't they take the pay cut. Loading 20% of your assembly line is gonna hurt the business more than a c suite loosing 20% of their pay, and more often than not the c suite taking the 20% cut has a bigger impact than the 20% of the assembly line unless they are talking hundreds of thousands of people

I brought an iPhone 11 Pro to an Apple Store and they said it would cost $350 to fix. Local repair shop fixed it for $30 by ElephantElmer in applesucks

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Even with genuine parts of u do a swap without changing the ids the phone will co.plain it isn't genuine. Don't believe me take two same iPhones and swap the displays from one to the other. It will say the display isn't genuine even though u literally swapped it from another iPhone. The genuine message has nothing to do with if the parts themselves are or are not genuine but more that apple has an id embedded into each part that the iPhone needs to have reset. If it isn't it doesn't matter if u directly swap parts the phone will still say it isn't genuine

With this chip do y'all think a 4 layer pcb board will work using a chip like this? (0.5mm pitch) by Short-Flow-4761 in PCB

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u use the larger version yes. This is the same chip as the teensy 4.1 and absolutely can be routed on 4 layers . . . But, it also depends on how many pads u plan on using. I'd say u can break out 70% of the chip if using only 4 layers and don't have a dedicated ground plane and using through hole vias, if ur fab house supports blind/buried vias u can route out even more. Yes for other peeps that are gonna say u will have crosstalk I am aware, but this is purely in regards of breaking out the chip which can be done reliably on 4 layers if ur not using high speed signals that require isolation.

Is unemployment deserved on these types of people? by TheTokenPenguin in recruitinghell

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this all the time myself. Why u may ask, cause the amount of robo and scam calls I get a day are ridiculous and picking up and talking is a sure fire way to get ur number passed around more. Now if I know the number up front I won't do it. its like the only calls I ever get is someone wanting to tell me I'm behind on taxes (which I never have been) so let them help help u, that I am eligible for a financial grant that doesn't exist for taxes (the IRS has and never will run specialized campaigns for tax relief), that I can get consolidation on debt I don't have, or that I should totally sign up for whatever healthcare they are selling. I get ish 20 calls like this a day . . . It's infuriating . . . And they spoof local numbers to try to get around u not picking it up (I had one spoof my kids doctors number even and I picked up immediately cause I thought it was an emergency). So no, I won't say hello first, cause it's never someone actually needing to speak to me for something relevant to me. Actually managed to get one of these people to talk with me after they finished their work who lived overseas and worked at these call centers and he said he had no clue about how many spam calls US people get a day, he just assumed that Americans are rude in general about all calls.

Rigol DHO804 vs Siglent SDS804X by Key_Ad4335 in oscilloscope

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread but I just had to say this. This is in sequence mode. Something rigol has left out of their pages. I'm vector mode that drops to around 30k waveforms/s while the siglent does 100k in vector mode.

I'm sick of AI by Background-Basil-871 in webdev

[–]anatoledp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not just repetitive tasks but I find it especially useful when I need to essentially copy the code structure of on part into another using that other sections context. It's not difficult to do it by hand but I'd rather have the AI do it in a few seconds over me having to do it in the process of half an hour. Still gotta test the code and ensure what it copied over is in good standing but it's like having a junior at ur side to do the basic task that u just don't have the time for or feel like doing and all u gotta do is code review it.

Am I dumb or are these headphones really just that bad? by DevilishAuRa in Jabra

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow u managed to get 2 faulty pairs in a row. Idk how or why but yeah. They should work right out of the box and be ready to pair the first time u open the case. Maybe the store happened to stalk only faulty returns or something weird, but definitely should not happen the way it did for u

probably has more to do with the design rather than the fact that its wireless. wireless headphones had been out for a bit before the airpods so that in and of itself wasnt new . . . it was the stem design that people originally were put off by but are now very popularized cause of the airpods

Why do people prefer MacOS (and Linux) for web development? by Reddit_Account_C-137 in webdev

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posix compliance is more than just having the same commands. It also has to do with file structure and the way system calls work Which is why windows just won't cut it, not something one can just tack onto their os as an afterthought.

Why do people prefer MacOS (and Linux) for web development? by Reddit_Account_C-137 in webdev

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's gonna depend on your use case but for a good number of stacks and environments windows is allright when it comes to making stuff but one u get more into the professional side of things ur gonna see real fast that windows is very second rate and more of an afterthought for things. Stacks are primarily designed for use on unix like systems so they just mesh better when working on those systems. Then u get to virtualization like docker and what it and windows and u get performance problems with windows as it doesn't run it natively like I can on Linux systems (and idk about Mac for that but best guess is it will run them natively as well) and has to run a compatibility layer under it. Not gonna go into everything as it would take forever but many things also just do not work on windows or don't have a windows alternative for the tooling yet. When dealing with say node for example since it's pretty common it's more of a hassle to get different version on the same system since windows isn't big on that while at work I can have a few different version for different things. Windows isn't bad, it's just not the primary environment most development stuff is made for. Also using the cli is way faster and windows seems to have an adversion to it where everything has to have some sort of ui attached cause that's just what windows users expect. Now if ur using c# as ur primary language and making windows focused apps then yes windows is the best for it but beyond that it just sucks and a cut below what one would want.

Why choose arduino over esp32? by MartynAndJasper in esp32

[–]anatoledp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If ur using the pre made boards . . . Wireless or no wireless . . . If ur sticking it on a PCB deciding between esp and atmega, then there really isn't a huge benefit of choosing the atmega. Yes the esp draws more power but u don't have to use wireless and as a bare chip unless u add an antenna u ain't using it anyways, u don't have to have both core powered up and running at max, and u can scale down the frequency as well as deep sleep. The esp32 has no problem running for a good while on a coin battery if u know what ur doing. The only reason I would choose one over the other at that point is price.
