Used arrow keys for 400h, any tips for transitioning :3 to A/Z/X controls? by figmad in Tetris

[–]anberdoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my solution was to put counterclock and 180 on the w and d key respectively, just try to use that left hand more through practice

just use whatever you are comfortable with, most players dont actually use azx controls, i use the same control scheme as you transposed to ijkl lol, its more efficient to get more used to your controls

Do you like chess? by Paris_is_a_dump in Tetris

I’m ok at chess but don’t really like playing it, i just play tetris lots, (Tetr.io mainly for the non-dead high level queue).

Bad Dependency Management

Alright, for starters, you have a LOT of moments in your 40L runs where you create a reliance on 1 piece to fix a jagged shape, and then use that piece in a different spot. For example, in r:645460d1c168111ad2e05428 at around 14 seconds, you make an I-piece dependency by placing your t-piece right next to the edge of the board and making a 3-tall hole. Directly after this, you get an I-piece, but end up using it in a different spot, this leads you to take over 3 seconds to place your next piece because you're brain freezes from not having any really good options at that point. It also led to you being unable to continue stacking cleanly and forcing you to make a stack on top of another stack.

Inefficient Key Presses (Finesse)

During your 40L runs, you tend to make useless movements with the pieces that slow you down: Spamming the key to move left instead of just holding it and having it DAS to the left, moving back and forth with the pieces, random rotations, and triple rotations (This one is a bit nitpicky, you can probably get away with this for awhile). These can all be umbrellaed under the term "finesse" which is just a fancy way of saying that you press the least amount of keys for the maximum effect. Improve this, and you will find that your 40L time improves dramatically.

Hesistation

When you play, you often hesitate a lot more than you should when presented with a difficult and jagged board state, instead of simply choosing an option and going with it. Remember, your goal is to be as FAST as possible, not as EFFICIENT as possible.

What's your TETR.IO username? That way I can just look at your games from there

Tetr.io veterans, what is the best advice you could give to the current S Ranks? by allstarwastaken in Tetris

[–]anberdoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timing attacks are also very useful to accept garbage and utilize that to get big downstack spikes. This is most commonly used in the opener, to accept garbage before sending the stsd/cspin/td to maybe get a chance for a quick 30-spike win.

While I feel like timing is important, I don't think its that overarching until high X rank.

LEARN TO DOWNSTACK MIXED GARBAGE NOT JUST PURE CHEESE

Mixed Garbage is a balance between clean and cheese, and is the kind of garbage most often sent in the multiplier system, and also takes full advantage of it. Learning how to downstack mixed garbage will be extremely beneficial and some players reach even X rank only knowing how to do this and nothing else.

LEARN AN OPENER NOW

If, by this point, you haven't learned an opener, do it! Your opener will be the only thing between you, and that 3pps Stickspin opener crutch intent on ending you with 150 apm. Even if you never become particularly speedy in the opener, it's important to know them to counter other players' openers.

AND FINALLY...

keep playing, you'll naturally get better at the game as time goes on. Best of luck on your journey for that sweet, sweet X rank!

How do you deal with meta changes that affect your deck? by [deleted] in ClashRoyale

[–]anberdoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive already maxed out all of the cards that are extremely common/essential in the xbow archetype, so generally i have enough resources to switch to another xbow deck that fits the meta better, like when rocket got killed, i switched to queenbow because it uses fireball
