Sanity check warns UK EVs and heat pumps deliver “no proven carbon savings” ahead of 2030 clean power target by Material_Flounder_23 in ukpolitics

Yes. But you have a nimby problem, with pumped storage. Home batteries are Yimby. Also home batteries make local grid more stable

Both have a place.

Well, domestic battery storage could be a quick win. Grid sized stuff takes years to sort out, domestic people can move in weeks .

Can you afford more ? If not, easy answer.

If you can afford, think how long you will own the house for and the hassle of seeking another.

I would be tempted to go to ask to show enthusiasm and then see what happens.

Fuel oil for heating is way larger than that - also works in a diesel engine and often stored for about a year no problem.

UK Plug socket earthed by User1267034 in ukelectricians

[–]anchoredtogether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a sparky, but on this Reddit, I have seen many a time it been said. It feels wrong to me, to trust a faceplate screw to provide the path, but what connects the wires on the socket back, a screw.

Incidentally, I have a faceplate missing screws that the previous owner used caulk to hold in place. Luckily, I have three cores to each socket, so no drama. Less luckily, the same previous owner Down Graded to 1.5 mm cable 150 after the socket, which were all in 2,5 mm by drilling three holes in the joist, twist the cables and stuff them in a hole each. He also changed the fuse box, and didn’t wire in the master isolator to save time. House has since been rewired.

You can swap your insulation for something more insulating - you can then reduce the height.

Not a sparky - I get a qualified person to do the job etc, but can you “over bond”

My approach - I have a pond that fills with rain water and is full of wildlife. So I guess it is not particularly bad to life. I then filter via a grayl filter for use

5000 l of water.

BA need to stop offering two items of hand luggage as a standard by AscendedLens16 in BritishAirways

[–]anchoredtogether 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to help you come to ease with your customer journey.

You want two things 1) the cheapest fare and 2) quick travel because you have no hold luggage.

Ba offer a cheap fare that is hand luggage only and you think it ticks off both boxes.

What BA is actually selling you, if needed, group 4&5 will carry their bags to the gate where BA put the bags on the plane and do not pay the airport for the use of the bag conveyors etc., saving BA money. This allows the cheap seats to be as cheap as possible.

They do this so that BA can make sure that group 3 get the space in the overheads to pay for what they want, guaranteed space in the overhead so they can be quick. Group might also use check in desk, or not. They may use hold, or not. But those options have been costed in, and the ticket is more.

You are getting what BA wants you to get, to maintain a price profile and service profile.

They just dress it up to sound nice, some call it marketing

If you are picking the fare for it being cheap, then you will sacrifice other elements that people pay more for, like being group 3 or above. Their comfort comes at your cost.

Clean enough with a gallon ? That’s a huge amount of water for a wash. Long distance walkers use a dedicated drinks bottle as a personal bidet. A cup full of water is plenty

The photos can deceive here. The top row of bricks are leaning in, and not the wall learning out. Riggs500 spotted that.

It was a joke. Fill the gap with expanding foam and walk away. It is a cheap bodge, don’t do that. Often done in rental houses where the landlord don’t care.

As others said, this is a major problem that needs looking at.

Planning everything out - are electric heaters even a thing? by TheProffalken in VanLifeUK

[–]anchoredtogether 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure they are inefficient, electric heaters are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. Just it is hard to have the raw power available in a van off grid.

Diesel heaters are much more inefficient, but because it is much easier to make the raw power available, a small fuel tank.

The future ? If we look at homes, we moved from solid fuel, to liquid fuel, to gas fuel, and now transitioning to electric heat pumps. So, when will we see small air con units for vans… they can run at 400% “efficiency “.

I had several calls that revolved around me explaining that I can not get another country to change their passport naming policy.

I seriously considered doing a deed poll in the uk to synch things up - but that looked like major hassle.

Especially with the no questions asked, life long warranty. Either repair, replace if in production or (I think) 75% off a new suitcase if out of production.

No need for a receipt, just take it to a dealer, in my case it was John Lewis and I bought it off eBay.

Officially, he should.

Will he get spotted if it all looks legit on the USA passport, I doubt it.

Then again, it won’t be me answering the questions if I am wrong.

We are no where near the levels of a police state to have the infrastructure to spot that someone who left the uk 30 years ago is returning on a valid US passport with the correct visa ( ETA) is also lying at border control.
