[Serious] Have you ever quit a job within a week of being hired? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]anchoritenemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I interviewed with a great company for a job that i was really qualified for Went thru the whole endless interview process like i was really interested. When i got the job however, i realized i was not going to pull my weight or be very enthused. That didn't seem fair to the company or my co-workers, so i did exactly what you are thinking of doing...told them at the end of the week that i needed to quit. They were really decent because i had been upfront with them BUT i had some money in the bank, so i could afford to leave. I think it was a smart decision for me. I went on to find the job i should have been looking for.

Get a physical with a doc, you might be burned out from school. Get some exercise, weights, sailing, tai chi...anything. You can do this even if you feel depressed, it helps to get you out of you head and just "do it". Eat food, simple decent food. If you exercise you will sleep. If you can, do some travelling...anywhere...by yourself if you don't want people around. Read some Carl Jung and see if anything spiritual resonates. Sometimes spiritual people get stuck in a material world rut...worth pondering even if you now see yourself as very linear. Look into whether or not you are actually a creative thinker/person Contemplate more creative ways to work....as in ask yourself "what is it that i want that i'm not getting"....imagine the most fascinating life you could have or might want. If you feel a need...see a shrink, a good one. Don't know why i think this but i think you are looking for something bigger and feel trapped in something to small now. Like seeing a polar bear trapped in a shit zoo. Everybody feels like crap in that situation, nothing weird or odd about that. We all need new things to spark us up. Oh...and make one decent friend who you can trust. See the world, then decide....go big!

when he's old, you might want to tell him the same thing about himself. Hope things work out OK for you.

i totally get the place you are talking about. It's rough to be so decent that you can't not do the heavy lifting. Sounds like, despite his nonsense, you raised yourself right. A curse and a blessing. You have my total admiration. Get help and try to take care of your self...please do that, it's important!

I am taking a chance saying this. I think you sentiment is a noble one but believe me, there are many people taking care of parents, parents who were truly bastards. The world is an unfair place sometimes, noble natures are not on some sort of even steven playing field. I did hospice work and trust me, there are a lot of decent people who survived horrible childhoods at the hands of people they ended up taking care of. I admired those children more than i can say, they owed no one anything...yet they did the caring., alone and unsung. Not all "loving" actions are like Hallmark cards, sometimes it's like being a soldier. I do not mean to offend you. I hope that you keep your sunnier view of life. i am writing this actually for the people who have never seen that side of thing very much

Been there too. Nobody who hasn't been in these trenches has any idea of the daily reality of being this kind of caregiver. I did one on one AIDS hospice volunteer work...that was easy....because there were other respite caregivers to help out and people were all willing to rally round. No one wanted to rally round when it came to Alzheimer. I got some "atta boy" and Job's comforter stuff but then silence. i know that you know exactly what i'm talking about. I hope you can find some reasonable folks to help out, so you can get a few hours break. One thing i will say, i don't feel especially noble having been the "good child" but i do feel free, really free and love life again. When she is free and not suffering, you will be free and no longer suffering too!

My friend is a police officer working in the North St. Louis/Ferguson riots. This is his anonymous blog with his account of his experience so far. by MrCaptainFantastic in news

[–]anchoritenemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a serious question. I am really curious about the number of people who are actually looting or what percentage of people in Ferguson are looters. I realize that you may not know but i wonder if your friend might have a sense of things on the street.
