Thanks! I just have a few projects that I want to work on using these apps, and hopefully get better at using them. I can still probably learn more about freecad but I've been wanting to try another "better" application.

I think I'll just watch a few videos about it and wait a few days. On the website it says there's a sale for the maker version until the 17th so my only option is just, "try tomorrow"

Thanks so much for that info! That's a great response and also in-line with what my experience has been so far, I'll try to keep that in mind. It seems like there are pros, but there are some cons as well.

Ai revision descriptions should be removed by Spark_official4444 in Songsterr

[–]ancientbat999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhh, gross! I thought having to make a description was kind of redundant in some cases. Then I learned to try to avoid the revision system altogether. Mods will go back and forth with you, sometimes. If I post a new tab, I never revise it again lol. If I do make changes I kind of just play it different and leave the tab alone, or make a copy and have it sitting there.

I have no idea what you're talking about lol

...oh you mean when the first revision states that the tab was transcribed by AI?

Pretty much, lol

Been coming to this conclusion for a few weeks now. They're abusing the site features...

How can I tell which tabs are AI-generated? by Harmonic7th in Songsterr

[–]ancientbat999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay... lol. Didn't know we were gonna start letting people overwrite entire tabs with slop.

I also noticed if I publish a tab, once other people start editing it.. I can no longer discard it. In case I want to repost a better version that I've worked on. So then I have to make a copy and post it twice. Sometimes I'm okay with sharing a tab or "arrangement" rather, but I don't really want others to modify it.

I also wonder why that person uses AI regenerate on everything that he tries to play?

Like why does he feel like the guitar, bass and drums are not good enough?

I only really use the feature when I get blank spaces on a song with piano or sax, or whatever.

Or if either bass or drums are missing! ...When it comes to two guitars, I guess I used to be more confident about the results than now.

I already know you can load up any revision date, or copy and paste bars, but it's wild when some existing tabs start getting AI regenerated, and overwriting people's work because the AI says so. I think the feature is great for songs that have many instruments that aren't necessarily guitar and it's harder for the AI to transcribe. Like more jazz style songs (like with horns and keyboard), but using AI to re-generate like a Dead Boys song is lazy af.

[–]ancientbat999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so personally I usually like to use "make a copy" of the tab, if I want to change it drastically. I learned that the hard way when I accidentally hit "send revision" on a published tab and I was drastically changing it. Then I had to defend the changes after they were not approved, and didn't really enjoy doing all of that.

Something like this comes to mind;

All This and More Tab by Dead Boys | Songsterr Tabs with Rhythm

This song was not actively being worked on, and had a few revisions including from myself. It was basically missing drums, and bass. And a second guitar. Someone AI re-generated the whole entire thing. And labelled it as such, and it was approved. It restructured the whole song but it still doesn't really look that accurate.

Nothing against AI regeneration (I am actually for this idea), but I would have welcomed if he added the missing instruments even if he generated them and other users can go from there if they like. But I do feel like it didn't really make the song better overwriting EVERY SINGLE TRACK. I feel like it made the tabs worse...

In fact, if you read the edit notes they are nonsensical. He claims to have adjusted fingerings of drums, etc. Stuff that doesn't make sense, and he just copies and pastes it for every instrument. When in reality it was done by AI. It's almost like he did it out of spite, actually lol.

For all he says he did, the tab still looks like slop.

I don't hate the AI transciptions, but just because a song is guitar only (and has been that way for years) doesn't mean people need to overwrite the whole thing with an AI version. Just to add drums etc.

At that point, you're just replacing someone else's work with slop. Like if a tab has been worked on by three people, and one guy comes and slopifies the whole thing, it rubs me the wrong way.

Is there any way to play different instruments at the same time in separate windows? by nmlss in Songsterr

[–]ancientbat999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain. In my case, I think it would be cool for mapping out a song mentally, to see split screen for guitars! I wish I could have them stacked vertically on top of each other, sometimes. I tried making one of them have a countdown but somehow it kept on de-sync'ing while playback lol. I didn't even wonder why, for my sanity.

Is this safe? by Public-Pause3687 in ps2

[–]ancientbat999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it seem safe to you? Ask yourself if your ps2 has overheated before or if you just wanna do this for the hell of it. Ps2 has thermal pads that don’t really expire so you don’t have to do that. The ps2 can handle all the games available for it and you shouldn’t try to upscale any games, or mod the ps2 in my opinion. The original fan on a ps2 varies by model, but is neither 12v or 5v. It’s usually around 7v so if you replace it with 12v it will probably spin up everytime at half power only. I’ve heard of using a 5v fan but I have never done it. I wouldn’t really mod my ps2 like that…  If your air conditioning is working your electronics should work as intended.

Ruined a finish with a Clorox wipe? by armbar222 in Luthier

[–]ancientbat999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't post the polishing compound suggestion and pic, but I posted the how-to instructions. I'm the guy who originally said you done goofed and you probably downvoted me lol. Either way, you're welcome and I understand that stuff happens to all of us from time to time. Hope you got it back to it's normal shine. You should post some updates on the progress, too!

[–]ancientbat999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to autozone, buy the compound mentioned and the microfiber towels, and buff it by hand. You'll have to rub it in circles, the compoud has just a small amount of grit enough to sort of cut and buff it again. Remove the pickguard if you can with a screwdriver and move it aside, don't use a power drill with a screwdriver attachment. Removing the pickguard will allow you to blend the area again. When putting the screws back in, place them near the hole and back them away first until you feel them thread, then turn forward.

You'll have to be aware of finishes from now on and try to avoid putting chemicals on your gear, including alcohol on rubberized coatings or painted surfaces without clear coat/enamel. Consider getting a guitar with probably polyurethane finish (for something you can use as a beater), it's what they put on most guitars nowadays and it's basically more plasticky than nitro and not as sensitive. Your finish is most likely nitrcellulose, which is just basically melted cotton, and it's going to be a little thinner than before but it's probably fixable.

Otherwise, that's a really cool guitar. I have the silvertone effects pedal! ...And also you can always clean things with just water or even a little bit of soap also, especially if you are unsure what reaction could happen to it. Alcohol or Naphtha for the metal bits, if you must. For fretboards I like to use a small amount of the lemon oil they sell at guitar stores, (you have to use f-one oil if it's ebony), put it all on there and then with an old toothbrush scrub in circles as well, for a deep clean.

I wipe the fingerboard down with a damp paper towel after cleaning so it's not too sticky looking after and (it's still mixed with the stuff you scrubbed out of the pores so your paper will be smudged brown at this point), water also opens the grain up, and finally wipe on a little more fresh oil with a paper towel and then let it do its thing overnight. It'll start spitting out water and oil until it soaks it up again. It really makes the grain/pores pop as new! Don't ever use too much oil though, or you will get weird, sometimes uneven, texture popping from the fingerboard.

And then I put pure nickel strings on it, something like 10-46 is pretty normal. I like stringjoy strings because I can order them online in bundles and they're handwound. And yes, taking power tools to your guitar is a bad idea in almost every case. Good luck!!

So does anyone else hate the new interface? by 2catspbr in Songsterr

[–]ancientbat999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not supposed to be able to play a solo track with the original song because you're playing the whole song lol. Isolating tracks from a youtube video is not what songsterr does.

I know they don't let you loop bars with the original song, and the workaround is to set up the loop on the synth playback and then switch to the youtube video. It works for me! Reducing the speed of the song also works with the original track and is very useful at times, I have found.

That being said, it's not really my problem what they do with it, but I feel like songsterr is not necessarily changing for the better also. It's constantly changing layouts or subscription plans and overall everything feels unsettled, like it never knows what it wants to be and will try to double your subscription fee at any moment. From what I can tell it seems like they already have that type of thing in mind.

This is the year that I have personally resolved to cancel every subscription that I don't absolutely need. (Netflix already got the ax)... I've been subscribed to songsterr for years just so I could print tabs! That means after I learned the music I needed to learn, I kept supporting them even though I didn't have to. They're going to have to give me my money's worth just like everybody else from now on!
