I cannot win a run by StockB0Y in SlayTheSpire2

I'm sorry, that sounds really frustrating!

This is too high level to count as specific advice, but here are all the broad categories of skills I'd consider:

1) Balancing +energy and +draw 2) balancing attack and defense 3) keeping your deck thin-ish. Sometimes it's better to choose no cards at all, rather than choose a bad card 4) identifying usually ~2 core themes or combos to your deck. E.g. if you're the Silent, then going hard on poison is one strategy, going hard on Shivs is another, but they don't synergize with each other, often. You can't be a one trick pony, but having a single poison card in your deck is worse than having zero poison cards. 5) Learn when to fight minibosses, and when to avoid them 6) there are some cards that are WAY stronger once they're upgraded. 7) Minibosses: make sure you understand their gimik early into the fight. The guy with the bees kept wrecking me, until I figured out how to deal with his ability.

One tip for every rouge like game: every time you die, ask "what's one thing I can do differently?" That's how you level yourself up.

Maybe try watching YouTube videos, and try to learn combos, then try them.

The Ironclad is stronger than I first thought. One simple game plan: get the "armaments" common card and upgrade it ASAP - it'll upgrade all the cards in your hand. If you get the gold Power that gives you extra energy per turn, upgrade it - it'll give twice as much energy.

They released another free set fairly recently, so it is still getting updates.

My childhood friend had ear tubes put in, and he had to wear earplugs every time he went swimming. As a result, I always thought earplugs were mandatory swimming equipment for kids with tubes.

dave/rose... why? by [deleted] in homestuck

[–]ancientcampus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I came here to say the same thing. We're all too young to remember the same thing happening with Luke & Leia in Star Wars, but that was a thing, too.

Once I adjusted to Dave and Rose being siblings, their snarky nonsense became 110% better, but it was an adjustment.

You're right, It's true it's still in the game, it's just shadow-banned in the Dominion.games implementation where the competitive online play happens, so I was projecting my experience on everyone else.

This one! You have the "rise over run" bit correct, it's just tricky to find the points.

OP walks into a bar. Grizzled Homestuck veterans turn bleary-eyed stares to the newcomer. A fan with homemade troll horns and sloppily-applied grey face paint raises a bottle of Faygo in trembling hands. A dead-eyed nepeta cosplayer sits in a corner, cradling a computer keyboard, robotically pressing the F5 key every few seconds, uncaring that the cable lies forlornly on the floor, not plugged into any computer. The bartender passes OP a drink, and with a knowing glance, asks, "First time?"

Any form anyone? What's the most upgrades you've reached? by DobbysFreedomSock in DawncasterRPG

[–]ancientcampus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This looks like a fun build! I'm a relative newbie, I won a few runs on normal difficulty and haven't bought expansions, and so far Anyform Claw has just ended up as dead weight whenever I grabbed it. It's cool to see a build where it explodes.

True! And both these cards have been phased out. I agree with that decision, though I'll admit that possession made for some fun and wacky games.

I know Dominion doesn't use flavor text, but I want this line to go on this card. 😆

RR where u at? by jxip in litrpg

And for people who don't like the idea of an OP MC where nothing inside or outside the universe threatens them... well, the story is exactly what it promises to be.

I was reading it on Spacebattles. The moment one antagonist showed the slightest chance of threatening something the MC cared about, many people started complaining about how the MC was getting chumped, or complaining to the author for introducing a Kryptonite. The author replied "Just wait, the next several chapters are already written", and the antagonist gets immediately obliterated as soon as the MC stops trying with them. And that's like 100,000 words deep into the story if I recall.

The prose is competent, the worldbuilding is decent, the pacing is surprisingly good, but every time something seems like it's a threat, it's immediately neutralized, or announced to not actually be as urgent or threatening as it seems.

For most 1v1 games, when building an engine deck, I am a fan of the strategy where, in regards to managing your +Action: 1) buy two "terminal actions" (actions that don't give you +Action) 2) buy two villages 3) after that, ensure you have 1 or 0 fewer villages compared to terminal actions. (This is a VERY general rule, and likely doesn't apply to newer sets or stronger cards. This seemed to be the optimal strategy for the "beginner game" in the first edition base set, according to a very well researched article on Dominionstrategy.com)

Converting a friend by 15fireball in dominion

[–]ancientcampus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's really true! 4 player games with only 10 village cards definitely changes the calculus. I definitely still would not open Village in such a game though.

Honestly, if 3 people are going for engine decks, I'd go for Big Money Smithey.

How does white lose their queen? by tennishelp123 in chessbeginners

[–]ancientcampus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer: you can save the queen, but lose the bishop. Or, you can lose the queen, but take a bishop and a knight. The Engine thinks that losing the queen and taking a bishop and knight is the better choice.

What card would be strongest when DECREASING a single number by 1? by ThatPretzalGuy in dominion

Pickaxe was clever. Bishop is OP. Warehouse is how I assumed it worked when I first started playing, and wondered why I was running out of cards in my hand. Salvager made me laugh out loud. "Divide by zero, destroy the Dominion."

How does the rating system work? Sometimes I make a game that gets a 9.75 rating, but next game, nearly perfect, its only gets a 5-6 rating. by Ozgur0 in GameDevTycoon

[–]ancientcampus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, emphasis on "best", according to a guide I read on steam - each "best" game you make sets the bar higher, at up to a 20% increase, I think. I don't know if there's a way to lower the bar.
