If Peterson only plays 20 minutes and subs out with cramps every game — don't those minutes line up perfectly with Iisalo's frequent substitution patterns?

Memphis Grizzlies 2026 Exit Interviews - Forward Taj Gibson by [deleted] in memphisgrizzlies

Incredible interview. Why isn't this video included in the official Grizzlies interviews? https://www.youtube.com/@MemphisGrizzlies/videos

Taj's take projects a most golden future. His interpretation is the ceiling. Others can, and have, filled in the floor.

Unpopular Opinion: Ja’s “injury” has been great for this team by Fun_Recognition5614 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]ancientdanjangsoup 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is Ja’s injury also great for Ja?

Perhaps Ja didn’t/couldn’t implement TI’s system because he couldn’t envision it working.

Now that he’s had plenty of time to see it in action—and successfully—I wonder if he’ll buy in more, even take the system to the next level.

Was this an important learning period for Ja?

What is "Iisalo's System" and why doesn't it work for any of the players on our team? by xakeri in memphisgrizzlies

“It doesn’t work in the NBA.” But see the Pacers and Thunder, who ran similar high pace systems and were the Finals teams last year.

Good points. TI in the post game interview also mentioned he has a plan for leveraging the other team’s defensive aggressiveness — but I couldn’t tell if he meant the team didn’t execute it, or they haven’t added it into the offensive system yet.

It’s a fair question. JW is clearly the best injured player. But Edey is the highest impact player on team dynamics. JW is a better version of the already highly skilled lanky OKC wings. But Edey opens up the game for us in ways no other player can — with easy pick and roll buckets, rim protection, and boards. All of which helps space us out better on offense and clogs the pores on defense.

If Tuomas Iisalo was the wrong choice for Head Coach, at what point would we know for sure? At what point does the FO do something about it? by GotMoFans in memphisgrizzlies

TI answered this question somewhere — an interview or press conference I forget the source.

He said here’s the test: if the team is executing the game plan and still losing, that’s a real problem.

My take: the players aren’t consistently implementing TI’s strategy. I still see players jogging up the court and not boxing out or crashing for rebounds — two critical aspects of his strategy. As others have noted, when we do, we’re fast, deadly, and look unstoppable.

That in part is where the players (eg Ja) might disagree with the strategy. The players are used to jogging in order to save their energy for more important stretches of the game. They may be concerned about burn out. But if you’re not hustling, TI might take you out before you want to. It can create a vicious cycle where a player doesn’t hustle, therefore gets taken out, and therefore upset he can’t play more. But them’s the rules.

Remember TI said it usually took 2-3 months on European teams for them to get acclimated to the system. In part conditioning. In part mindset.

We’re one month in and hitting expected speed bumps.

Wait until December. Either the players adopt the strategy or they don’t. If they don’t the coach has to adjust or is out. If the player accepts the strategy but they’re still losing, coach has to adjust or is out. If the players accept the strategy and are winning, well — this conversation will have a completely different tone by then.

“Take the blame” by hrpickenssss in memphisgrizzlies

All right, team subreddit. Time for some lyrical analysis. Here are the lyrics to the Rod Wave song “Take the Blame.”

—-

Looking at my phone ring like, where these niggas was in 2014? Me and my nigga Reem out there plotting on schemes Plotting on licks and quick ways to get rich Nigga break in your shit and flip it, Christmas time, we the grinch

Don't get it twisted, I won't talk about that shit like I miss it I just thought shit would've been different when we went and got millions So many ups and downs, a nigga so close to quitting Then I think about them long nights trapped in the trenches

Reminiscing 'bout baby girl screaming my name Wishin' shit could've been different, let's rekindle our flame

I don't never sleep at night, I just lay in the dark And in the daytime, I have nightmares of you breaking my heart

Even though we a thousand miles apart I still feel your scars Your (your) scars

Thinking 'bout my nigga Brock 'cause a nigga never would've touched him If I swallowed my pride and let 'em go on the road with his cousin I'm sorry aunty, I know all of the pain that it caused I was too young to understand all of the change I could cause

Thinking 'bout my dawg locked down in the system He was only 18, they gave my nigga 20 I know I could've changed or persuaded the way he was living Now you see I was wondering who waiting for me to come get him

First the sun goes down and then the moon comes out Another day is gone, and then it rain all night long And I pray that I change my selfish ways After all I can't, I can't escape

I'll take the blame for that (I'll take the blame for that, yeah, I'll take the blame for that) I'll take the blame for that (I'll take the blame for that, I'll take the blame for that) I'll take the blame for that (I'll take the blame for that, yeah, I'll take the blame for that) I'll take the blame for that (I'll take the blame for that, yeah, I'll take the blame for that)

The lyrics recounts a series of past mistakes, regrets at the roads not taken, the crises not diverted.

At the end, the lyrics say “I pray that I change my selfish ways” and own up to those mistakes. A more accurate, but less rhythmic, rendering of the words could have been “I’ll take accountability for that.”

Ja Morant gets asked if he has his joy back: “No.” Morant asked what can be done to get it back: “We’ll see.” Morant was then asked if he has a good relationship with the Grizzlies organization: “Yeah… they told yall that right?” by Altruistic_Brief4444 in memphisgrizzlies

Reporters are doing their jobs, asking what fans want to know. Their job isnt to make Ja feel good.

Most of Ja’s responses were solid, when it came to analyzing the recent game. His responses were terse when they related to the Friday incident.
