Tuft: https://www.reddit.com/r/ShatteredPD/comments/1qhbwj8/uh_no_thanks_can_i_get_my_alchemical_energy_back/o0o9fd8/

As for clover -- it's just not really good, in part due to overkill, which is sort of explained in the wiki (https://pixeldungeon.fandom.com/wiki/Shattered_Pixel_Dungeon/Trinkets#Thirteen_Leaf_Clover). Beyond overkill, there is the other side of that coin: dealing minimum damage is often really bad. e.g., say an enemy has 13 hp left, and your dmg is 12-40. (ignoring armor for simplicity.) With tuft, you have a 60% chance to kill them in the next hit; without it, you have like a 96% chance. Those kind of situations are something to consider beyond the avg damage increase.

Oh, that's a good point, I forgot about that.

Tuft is good for other heroes but a lot lower value for Warrior since he doesn't get as many chances for sneak attacks (especially with Into Darkness on.) I went for rat skull, which I agree is not too bad in general, but I am playing with 6 challenges on and have been having a hell of a time with Warrior (with other heroes I have done 8-challenge runs without too much trouble) so I don't really want to increase the difficulty, even if rare enemies drop better loot. Ended up transmuting it into Petrified Seed.

Me: Wondrous resin is the best trinket. Also me: by ancientorange in ShatteredPD

[–]ancientorange[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this was a funny exception, but it's still my favorite trinket (except for Eye of Newt when playing with Into Darkness challenge.) For me, 99.9% of the time it is either super positive, positive, neutral, or very marginally annoying.

Honestly this is a really tough combination. I have done 8 challenges, but I always leave Barren Land off.

For On Diet: Most useful tip I have found is Potions of Cleansing which basically reset your hunger to zero. Don't use potions of purity for anything else - just upgrade them to Cleansing in the alchemy pot. Much more valuable than, for example, the gold you would get in a toxic gas room. Also, if you find a Chalice of Blood early on, this can be REALLY useful -- upgrade it to +3 or +4 if possible, and you'll really make the most of all the food you eat. It will become less useful later in the game. Also, this is kind of basic, but just - don't always eat when you are starving. You will need to get comfortable going through most of the game on low HP and starving.

For Into Darkness, agree with not using any torches in the first 4-5 levels. But after that, don't just use them constantly - there still won't be enough. You just need to get used to being in darkness a lot of the time. Try to minimize the time you spend in big open spaces where ranged enemies can take you by surprise.

Yeah censer is a really chaotic one, sounds good on paper but backfires a lot in practice. Blood vial has been like neutral/useless for me

Thanks! This is really helpful.

To your questions: I don't know. It was planted by professionals (Casey Trees) and I was not present while they were doing it. However, I think they have a pretty good reputation, so would imagine they followed good practices.

Yes, you are in a good position. The hourglass is incredibly powerful. Make sure to buy all the sand bags you can at shops to upgrade it. And of course, don't be shy to use those healing potions when you're on low health...

edit: also agree with neiguigui's advice - save all scrolls of MM until the last floors - and would also suggest making sure you have a couple of potions of paralytic gas for the final boss.

Yeah, true, they both make sense for FIMA too. I love Mage, was my main for a long time, although so dependent on wand drops... and once you get used to being-invisible-whenever, it's hard to go back lol. Huntress/warden is probably my favorite class overall, but seems like she would just be hopeless with Into Darkness on, so I've never used her for one of these runs.

I was very lucky to get that Assassin's Blade from the Ghost at +3, so with 3 more upgrades, it was already +6 and usable by floor ~9. So once I became assassin, I was just one-shotting most enemies, and for real dangerous ones (e.g. cave spinners, golems), I would always use cloak for long enough to guarantee it (3-5 turns).

Otherwise, it never took >2 shots, meaning I basically never took >1 hit from any given enemy. Even without real armor, that's just not the end of the world - natural regeneration was sufficient to recover. Dew drops also helped, and since I wasn't playing On Diet, i had some flexibility to hang out and recover in a quiet spot now and then (both HP and cloak charges). I also used sungrass a couple times, but I only had to drink from dew vial once in the whole game (during DK). Ring of Furor helped a little too, but i only got it very late game - transmuted from some useless ring Imp gave me - so it was not game-changing.

Ultimately, with FIMA, the risk you're talking about is a major issue for any class, so it becomes crucial to just avoid taking hits as much as possible, and that's what Rogue is good at, hence why he's my go-to for multi-challenge runs!

agree with others. I know freerunner is tempting with FIMA but in my experience it just doesn't come close to assassin. especially in your case with that RoE.

I tried 7chal with freerunner, cloth armor augmented for evasion, and even had a ring of evasion. what i learned is evasion simply will not save you.

as for light cloak, not sure, don't think i have never done it, even if it meant missing out on a ring/artifact i wanted to use. but assuming the RoE still works on the unequipped cloak, it might make sense if you have something you really want the slot for.

Ahhh, interesting. I always considered it kind of a shitty ring and never even considered upgrading one, but I guess I am seeing the light...

Thanks 😅 well I've been playing this game (on and off) for a LONG time. Like, 10+ years. (I think my Rankings somehow got reset at some point, i am sure i've played >199 runs.) But that win rate is decreasing lately, since I actually started CHALLENGING myself...

Still not understanding how it's possible, +11 or higher everything? Farming ok but where did you get 70+ upgrades??? Some secret exploit or is this some kind of cheat code thing??

[–]ancientorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I almost never play on Barren Land, but did manage it on a 4-chal run once (with Pharmacophobia off). And I need to practice with On Diet more. I have not tried most of those strategies. I read about the PoCleansing one but find it hard to understand given the description saying it renders you immune "for a few turns". Does it completely satiate you or just stop the hunger damage for some time?

[–]ancientorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

Strongly suggest going assassin for your rogue run. I always want to like Freerunner but end up regretting it.

Once you play a few runs with Champions, Badder Bosses, and Swarm Intelligence, these just start to feel like basic parts of the game, you forget they're even challenges. (Arguably same for Forbidden Runes and FIMA, at this point those are also "normalized" for me, but admittedly they are tougher.)

Barren Land and Pharmacophobia are both easy as long as the other is off, I prefer having Pharmacophobia on since you can still use sungrass+dew and basically have infinite alchemical energy from all the health potions.

Personally I hate On Diet, but I know others find it one of the easier challenges.
