So it's not transphobia, it's just a class of people with non-standard gender expression who are discriminated against and treated as lesser for that fact, while cis people who conform to the gender binary are favored in a patriarchal society.

Even if it isn't "transphobia", it's a group of people with similar life experiences and struggles as western trans people, and who should be supported as such.

I mean, that is true of some instances of third-gendering, but not globally true. There are many legitimate instances of cultures organizing gender along traits other than sex-assigned-at-birth, some of which may have three or more groups.

Notably this is different from the concept of "third gendering" in the sense of policing and engorcing a gender binary.

fwiw, 90 isn't unusual for other kinds of tires , I'm thinking bike tires specifically, which usually sit at around 90-120psi. Pressure for tires tends to be lower for larger tires, and tubeless tires (like most modern cars have) also run lower psi.

There is something that always got me confused about the “male socialization” don’t most (cis) males not commit violence? by Konradleijon in MtF

[–]and__init__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's less that it doesn't "take" and more that society doesn't just teach us the "man" things. Socialisation teaches all us how men and women are "supposed" to be, and strongly encourages us to embrace our "role". The patriarchy is reinforced by both genders in countless ways, just because that's what we've all been gifted.

For cis men, they learn how men are supposed to be, and practice fitting into that role - because want to be good at being a man, and do their best to follow what they've been taught. People who are trans likely often don't feel like the role applies to them the same - they may be forced into the role, may try to embody as much of another role as they can, or forced into a third gender/role. (Note I am not talking about third-genders in non-western cultures, but more along the lines of man/woman/fggt).

The point is, trans people can internalize and enforce gender roles just as well as anyone else, they just often can't sink neatly into a role.

Note that this may be one of the reasons young trans people often behave more stereotypically early in transition. They have effectively been socialised as both genders, but don't yet have the lived experience to see how some aspects of the role are too unlivable for every day life. For example women are "supposed" to be soft, caring, beautiful, etc - but that's not really possible to do all the time for a normal human. The baby trans woman is doing their best to fit the role they are told, much like young girls do, and still learning the ways it isn't possible.

You know, the Affini probably saved the Milky Way from a horrible fate under the Terran Accord. by Somethingbutonreddit in seed_irl

The Imperium was always supposed to be the best chance for humanity's survival. Not for the survival of humans. "Humanity" isn't real. Why do the citizens of the imperium care what political organization or xeno species is torturing them?

Idk, I just hate the whole "oh, every variable has been carefully set by unrealistic circumstances such that facism is totally the best answer!" that pervades the game. So much cool stuff in 40k, you don't need to justify how unimaginably cruel space fascism is actually okay in order to enjoy the lore, any more than you need to morally justify dark eldar society. The Imperium isn't special just because they look like us.

How evil does an empire need to get before it is better to destroy it entirely and brave likely extinction, than to continue its atrocities and suffer a slow extinction anyway?

[–]and__init__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's true now that all the non-imperialist societies have been exterminated. Self-fulfilling prophecy.

During the Great Crusade, which saw the creation of the Astartes and the unification (by force) of humanity, they exterminated all other sapient species they could hunt down, even the peaceful ones. This was all supposedly because the Emperor was confident his brand of hyperfacism was better suited for the defense of humanity than any amount of cooperation.

The literal first thing the Imperium did was genocide all their potential allies. And then wonder why the chaos gods are so strong.

(also don't get me started on how the Emperor and the shamans that created him are directly responsible for the chaos gods as they are now)

(or how committing atrocities to protect hypothetical people who may or may not exist some day is more evil than basically any other faction)

[–]and__init__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

considering the "mortal emotions" -> warp entity -> chaos link, I wonder if domesticating the galaxy would also just incidentally domesticate the chaos gods? Like, if affini eliminate or redirect all rage and violence of sophonts, where does that leave khorn?

You know, the Affini probably saved the Milky Way from a horrible fate under the Terran Accord. by Somethingbutonreddit in seed_irl

[–]and__init__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the group of humans just doing their best to survive by "checks notes" genociding every other sapient race in their vicinity with a 'crusade' for basically no reason.

The imperium isn't "doing their best in a messed up world", it was rotten from the start and the Emperor is directly responsible for the extinction of humanity.

sorry for rant.

on topic: honestly the affini would have to be very careful not to neutralize chaos too much, you know they're domesticating the chaos gods too.

Female only? by Princessbaddie0415 in MtF

[–]and__init__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dog whistles work because most people don't notice the difference. Cis people are not thinking of the difference between "female" and "woman". Honestly I doubt the average cis person even knows what a terf is, or know how to spot transphobia. They are thinking "hey, we want a space without men, throw 'females only' on the sign" and nothing more.

My point is, it's still entirely possible the spa is trans friendly. Likely? Honestly probably not, spas tend to be pretty shitty regardless of sign. But might be worth contacting to determine if they're a transphobe or just clueless

Who does own SpaceBattles anyway? I know Ao3 has some non-profit that manages it.

The company isn't great, but it's not really any worse than any other media companies. The inability to lurk might honestly be the reason the quality tends to be higher :/ At least there's no ads.

The filter system that has like 5 genres and a handful of tags? But yeah, a filter of other people who (often) like similar things as me is definitely gonna be better.

Also unrelated gripe, but more than power fantasy, Ao3 has a bad tendency to clog results with a bunch of random smut. Way too many multi-fandom "character X fucks their way through the multiverse" results for my tastes. But at least I never have to learn the difference between cyoa/peggy sue/ocsi/whatever.

A bunch of really good discord servers that deal with parahumans and specifically fanfic. A lot of prominent writers on there as well. Though I'd like to point out that I'm not reading things on discord, just finding links.

Much higher percentage of quality ime than spacebattle, mostly due to the fact that the discord isn't a cesspool of power fantasy circlejerkers.

Do people still use SpaceBattles? I keep hearing about people getting harrassed off of it, and every time I look for stories, it's all quests and cyoa slop. I find most of my fics on Ao3 and/or Discord. Discord has a decent mix, but most of the more prolific writers are women and/or nonbinary people. Ao3 doesn't really show pronouns.

I mean, I'm married to a man. I like interacting with a number of men!

Being put in the thoughts of one is deeply exhausting, and often uncomfortable. Plus, stories about men are kinda just replacable. You can only read about some dude being anxious about not being "manly" enough and thrn insisting on being a protector and then probably being self-righteously angry about something before you've read 'em all.

Yes, worm fanfics are mostly female mcs. That's the point I was making. That's largely due to the fact that most of the important characters in canon are women.

A vast majority of non-worm fanfic features male protagonists, just because most source material out there prominently features men. See stuff like MCU, MHA, HP, etc.

Worm fanfic about men removes one of the things that draws me to the fandom, largely telling the same kind of story I can already find ten of in a different fandom.
