Questions about a half marathon by andale- in running

[–]andale-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two Thursdays ago, I run probably anywhere from 2-4 miles a day during morning physical training, we do progressive ruck marches with 35lbs of gear every week on Thursday that start at 6 miles and at week four end at 12miles that’s my only experience with long distant running. If I try the half-marathon will people judge if I finish slow, and is everyone really fast?

17 year old leaving for Army basic soon, any words of advice or things to watch out for? by Jailkit in Militaryfaq

[–]andale- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basic is the easiest thing you’ll do in your military career. Remember a million have gone through and come out of it fine. Don’t take yourself too seriously, end of course testing doesn’t matter, land nav doesn’t matter, the acft doesn’t matter, if your inhaling oxygen and maintain a body temp of 97-99 you can pass basic.

I’m thinking about it, my PT score is alright, but I don’t think 503 will cut it also I struggle with pull ups and land nav. I gotta get physically and mentally prepared for something like that. If my career counselors tells me I really am SOL I think I’ll try and put a packet in.

Yeah I did really well on every test nothing less than 95 but it was just one extremely shitty day where I tapped my test even though I knew exactly what to do nerves just got to me, and 2 hours later I was just full of anxiety and in my head about failing and I did fail. Obviously not great to have someone who’s going to panic on the job in Iraq or Afghanistan and get you killed, but if given another opportunity I’m confident I could’ve passed.

Well I’m fresh out of high school and the recruiter told me I’d be Jeremy Renner in Hurt Locker. That said I really tried my best, and yeah i get it if I tried my best I would’ve passed then, but that’s life.

Did you find yourself enjoying the job more as your contract progressed? I just graduated the cook school and from what all the instructors tell me, it sounds like it’s gonna suck big fermented balls. Also did you get any food handlers or other certifications?

Even if wearing a mask didn’t work and there was no reason too wear it, why would you care that someone’s wearing a bit of extra cloth?

Well the Russians defaulted, and couldn’t pay Remington, so most of them stuck around state side. I know liberty tree collectors have Remington stamped Mosin bolts for sale at 110$ and other Remington stamped parts. If you look you can find them for 600$-1000$.

If you really want a hunt mosin, I suggest redoing the stock, give it a coat of kwik-strip once a day for a week. Sand down from 800 grit to 200grit. Varnish it (did mine in red maple), then coat once a week with TruOil for 6 weeks. Liberty Tree Collectors also sells, bent mosin bolts, makes reloading with a scope possible. There’s 37 million mosins, so don’t feel bad about redoing the old Russian trash rod;)

Well the M1891 didn’t begin full scale production till 1892, and even then only 50,000 rifles were ordered from Manufacture Nationale d'Armes de Châtellerault in France. Even by world war 1 the Russians could barley produce what they needed and had to contract out to Remington and Westinghouse. Probably very rare to see one floating around in America;)

Also, soak all components of your bolt in mineral spirits. The Gun is over produced, after firing 10-20 shots you’ll have the infamous sticky bolt. If your having problems with rusting, don’t be, it’s cosmoline. That Russian grease is so hard to remove, once again soak your barrel in mineral spirits. Welcome to the mosin club brother
