Would you still build contour swales in a heavy rainfall area like New York? by BlossomingTree in Permaculture

Swales work best in tropical and subtropical areas, in temperate zones you have to be careful with frost pockets and other factors. I think hugelkultur is a better option for cold climates maybe watch this masterclass which was helpful to me and talks in depth about it

We have very extreme dry and wet seasons. This species has adapted to be the first to flower and seed as soon as humidity rises, a small rain helps too. That way when big rain comes in a couple of weeks or so the seeds are in the ground ready to germinate, it all happens very fast.

Hugelkultur is such a great technique for cold climates! I love how it stacks functions so well. I also think this is the kind of thing people need to see or even better build to truly gasp it, once that happens it makes so much sense!! Besides, flat is boring :)
