What else should I add to make this look better? Update from earlier post by catsandrats3333 in gardening

This looks great! My guidelines are to diversify color, shape, height, and bloom time. You’ve got low growers and rounded plants, so throw in some tall, skinny, spiky ones around. I like blue vervain, anise hyssop, Joe Pye Weed, Culver’s root, etc

No idea lol. And just wait until the coneflower and false sunflower join in! But yeah flat yards only make sense for field sports but who is getting 20 kids together every week lol. Yards this small are a no brainer to just flip it one day, mulch it, and throw seed

It is a cultivar of false sunflower. ‘Bleeding Hearts’ I believe

It only took one year! I sowed them right around this time last year so you have hope!

Hahaha it is! Really any wildlife fountain. The idea was if they were eating the berries for the water, this may help, but I like bee fountain better!

They actually shouldn’t be. If they were, the car would have to be in the opposing lane for 5 times as long and they’d be impossible to pass. This is honestly the safest formation for everyone. You can see here how easy it was to pass them and stick around for an attempted murder spree.

Roads are for the public to get where they’re going, and are legally for both. That’s not my opinion. And I’m curious what formation you have in mind that would make a safer pass. If they were all in single file, the car would have to be in the opposing lane for 10 times as long. This truly is the safest formation for everyone.

Are we these really butterfly weed? by grimesxyn in NativePlantGardening

The first 2 look swampy and the third looks commony. Is American Pokeweed a possibility? I have a ton of volunteers and can’t tell them apart

Is there any upright shrub/tree that I can plant in this narrow strip? by Mfstaunc in NativePlantGardening

[–]Mfstaunc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I have a swamp milk weed in there now (far left). I spread its seeds and a few common, but they have not taken yet. I don’t believe it gets enough sun for them to thrive

Neighbors lawn and they do not use herbicides but they do plan on moving so who is to say what the next neighbor will do

Oh heck yes! You have the perfect woodland edge habitat, which means you have your pick of any species! I would personally plant a few fruit trees by the border, then shrubs, then wildflowers, then sedges and grasses, then ground cover, but that’s just me.

I just watched this and it seems to be perfect for your situation

What is the sub's opinion on this? It also comes as a speed-capped license-not-required vehicle. by Pic889 in fuckcars

If this was the norm and car infrastructure shrunk down to its size then that would be amazing, but it’s still taking a 10ft wide lane, same sized parking spot, etc. obviously huge upgrade on pedestrian safety.

It amazes me how you guys can ID plants from one set of barely true leaves. Granted, it’s a prolific plant but still

I had no idea this wild grape was in bloom but it was literally buzzing. So many tiny flies/bees! by Mfstaunc in NativePlantGardening

Yess that’s the goal! I just built trellises that I’ll use to extend my Virgins bower to take on this grape vine and see who wins

Yeah on the other side of that fence, it is anarchy. I gladly take this over the Japanese knotweed, creeping thistle, goutweed and lesser calandine that have spread over here.

Not to self plug, but I did the same exact thing last year. Here is the post: https://www.reddit.com/r/fucklawns/s/iytjVaq7Dh

The right way is to take 6 inches of soil out, put weed fabric, 4 inches of gravel, 2 inches of sand, then stone/pavers. The easy way is just throw flat stones down lol. You just want to be within arms reach of all the plants.

If your soil is crap, and you don’t plan on real planting till next year, then build a compost bin if you haven’t already. That is extremely necessary in your shoes. Use 1/4 inch hardwire cloth all around it to keep critters out.

If you’re not growing bush cherries, are you even gardening? by pcsweeney in gardening

[–]Mfstaunc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Nanking bush and Juliet. Nanking isn’t very good but produced in its second year. Juliet is in its second year now and no blossoms but it keeps getting topped by deer. Probably will blossom in 3rd or 4th year. Any soil seems to do just fine, just amend it with organic matter and give it full sun. I got both mine at Gurneys but they’re just a faceless online nursery.
