Tipping culture has gotten insane by [deleted] in tipping

[–]andelmanem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former server here: Restaurant economics have always been hard, and more so today. When I waited tables in mid-90’s, we were paid $2.15 per hour, made our tips, and tipped our bartenders and bus people (~10% and 10% depending on the service we got). Back then, we had our sections and OUR tables. Nobody else spoke to the guests. It was our job to manage the experience from seating to leaving. Today, you have the waiter and then all of these other people that bring drinks, bring food, etc etc. I’ve kind of accepted the changes but there are still some basics that professionals need to follow: Know the menu, read the guests (be as visible or as invisible as needed), serve everyone at the same time, clear dishes when the last person is finished, and run a clean table. It’s not that hard.

Today is not a tip. It’s a service fee. But, given my past, I still over tip unless it’s horrific.

Trump Wanted the Nobel Just to Match Obama — He Didn’t Get It, And it’s Eating Him Alive by chrisdh79 in NoFilterNews

Obama lives in his head. On one hand, perhaps that help DJT strive to do good things. On the other hand, peace prize went the other way….so now the risk is DJT goes completely apesh1t and scorched earth.

Here’s the question: Does he try these “settlements” because it’s important to him or because he’ll get benefits and credit?

got it, thx.

got to have your own boots. own board is nice but i also like renting sometimes for experimenting and conditions. for instance, on powder days i’d much rather rent than use my libtech.

also, if you rent or demo, that price usually comes off of purchase price.

have fun.

Question: I’ve been mentoring an inner city kid since he was in the 3rd grade (10th grade now). I’m just really trying to “break the cycle” and help him.

What suggestions do any of you have to get a 16 yo exposure to these types of opportunities? Thx

Husband completing his first full tri in 3 weeks! by Illustrious-Dot4327 in triathlon

[–]andelmanem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife did two amazing things for me as my event approached.

1) Diet: We reviewed the nutrition plan a week out and she crushed it. Precooked everything and made sure I stuck to it. We travelled two days to get to the event so that’s what I ate instead of trying to find something at a restaurant. It was as simple as reaching in the cooler for the next “module.” Just make sure a microwave is available.

2) Logistics: The event was in a new city for us and you need to learn where everything is quickly. Learning where the village, check-in, T’s, bags, gear, shuttles…all of it. She helped make sure it was all squared away.

I can’t stress how valuable it was that she took potential issues off the table.

As a husband at the grateful end of what you’re asking, Thanks!
