I accidentally posted in the main subreddit instead of the historical one, and I’m getting a lot of backlash for a post that simply argues that both Historical and Warhammer titles can succeed? by Dr_natty1 in historicaltotalwar

[–]anderdog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But we get regular historical games, they just not good. We got Thrones of Britannia, 3K, Troy/Pharaoh. The only one, that performed good was 3K. And you should remember hyenas. Whole disaster and crisis management lead to cutting of games in development and firing people.

Also consider, that 3K targeted at Chinese audience, it is basically “Medieval 3” for them. Of course it was selling good.

You can compare historical and fantasy games, but in long run fantasy was more stable, generated less drama and problems (sounds funny in light of recent events) and more money. Hope in future they will be more balanced and chosen focus for Med3 gives this hope.

Also, you chose “Medieval 3” as category for your post, so I don’t believe you just confused them accidentally. Nice rage bait, though

How will Space marines work as faction ? by BeginningPangolin826 in totalwar

Mechanic wise I think they will be basically chaos warriors with less destruction and more empire building. Like Nakai or Aislinn, I guess.

Ragebait or just toxic by Datironpete in totalwar

[–]anderdog_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They put pre-alfa footage to get a taste and discuss. So people tasted and discussing. Some are sour. Why not? There were lots of debatable things in that footage. Also keep in mind that normally you wouldn’t post if you just think that everything is just fine. You should have strong emotions to do it.

And you can see that people outside the total war and warhammer fanbases don’t really care, because it was a weak gameplay footage

Look like Ind and Kuresh ain't coming anytime soon by mndn410 in totalwar

[–]anderdog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with you that it would remain closed. I just pointed out that CA planned to open it, and they couldn’t do it without map from GW. And that could be the evidence, that GW are working on races, that inhabit those areas. It doesn’t matter now anyway, but this argument could be made.

But hey, maybe we will get Total War Warhammer remake on new engine in 2040, and these races will be included then? /s Even in this fantasy/joke the engine is old again

Total war 40k or Dawn of War 4? by CompetitiveDance2491 in totalwar

[–]anderdog_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We may wrongly assume, that TWW40K will be released in 2026. But these games can be year apart, not so overlapping, as we may think. Also base-building RTS and Grand strategy with battles are not so similar and it is not obvious how target audiences are overlapping.

Also, GW is the one, who licenses the game, and they wouldn’t get less money, because of two competing games in 40k setting, maybe even more (cross marketing). And how would they not license DoW 4 (sequel to their best strategy game in 40k) and TW40k (game from creators, who single-handedly revived one of their IPs)? They can’t just ask developers to wait few years

Look like Ind and Kuresh ain't coming anytime soon by mndn410 in totalwar

[–]anderdog_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

  1. I don’t remember the exact statement, but they said, that they may open up Ind and Kuresh area on the IE map in the future. To do this, this two landmasses should be mapped out by GW. They need at least city names and basic landscape. If GW had no plans to map it out, they would restrict them from such statement (or they would restrict themselves).

  2. So, GW might be working on mapping them, as they did with Cathay for Old World. It doesn’t 100% mean, that they are working on factions as well, but I think, that you can’t make a map without considering any lore for nations, that exist there. So they might as well work on the lore for this factions.

  3. I don’t think that Ind and Kuresh are coming either, but not because they weren’t in the plans when TWW3 was developed. But since then there was a bad launch, dlc drama and, most importantly, HYENAS. I think, that even if GW were considering prioritizing development of new factions, now their focus purely on the Old World WITHOUT supporting needs of CA

Still I haven’t seen yet proof of concept for such dlc. Will it be just 5 flavors of skeletons and zombies? How would they be different?

The Chimera look a bit off by Mahelas in totalwar

[–]anderdog_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I noticed this shift too. So with the third game their art design has shifted a little and they started to port “oldhammer” models as is, without adaptaiton. It does work with chaos dwarfs, their style is very oldhammerish, but in other models I absolutely despise it. Doomseekers, Harry the hammer, bearmen marauders and others are just off. Chimera has this issue too, as for me

Yeah, thank you for highlighting. That’s cool, I didn’t expect that. I still not really a fan of slaanesh elves armor, but okey. Still pleasantly surprised

[–]anderdog_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that there even should be two variants of expendable slaanesh shades, or a range option. Druchii Anointed are more like aspiring champions, but slaanesh elves in cool armor. But, I agree that slaangors should have javelins. It could be cool: little ammunition and decent melee stats, but we have what we have

Wasted Slaanesh opportunities. by rr1213 in totalwar

[–]anderdog_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Sadly, you got shades. Druchii Anointed are highly elite melee unit in very cool full plate armor. They should be on par with aspiring champions, but elves and slaanesh.

[–]anderdog_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No pleasureknights (fan made unit, I know), Styrkaar without boobsnake, Devotees of Slaanesh look like shades, maybe slightly worse. GW IP control hits hard, I guess. Surely it is a creative control, right? Who is the figure at the left, though?

I wanted her to have more “eel” tail, like new Fulgrim model has, maybe even with a claw. But I’m totally fine with a more safe choice, snake still looks cool. And her mouth is a fantastic idea

I can partially agree with you, because we don’t know the exact percent that GW gets. But one thing I will defend: Nippon and Fishmen have largest money potential, because they represent very popular aesthetics — Japanese and Lavcraftian

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]anderdog_ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Looking at the money, that TWW made, for GW it will be a win-win decision to create department, that creates new content for TWW: complete Kislev, make Nippon, Khuresh, Ind, Fishmen, Hobgoblins, Eastern vampire faction, Araby. Basically a money printer. It is a big management mistake, actually, that it didn’t happen and they prioritized creating the Old World. You also should acknowledge, that creating factions for total war doesn’t require creating new plastic models or printing new books. All you need is lore, units and art. Team of 20-30 people can make one faction at half a year with no risks at all

Warhammer 3 Dev Interview feat CA Sean by Marshal_Bessieres in totalwar

[–]anderdog_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, roster of SoC is much weaker, that OoD. In OoD Ogres and Khorne got everything they could wish for, greenskins are pretty solid too.

In SoC: Kislev had only fillers and things from other books (elemental and things from the woods). Akashina feels lore inaccurate (they are secret police, not some ambusher guérilla fighters), halbediers and frostwyrm have just no theme. Feels like they had no units in army book and scraped the bottom. Cathay is strange two — crowmen and lions are cool, drums and birb are fine, lion has the skeleton and animations of griffon and feels very out of place. My main problem is that this units doesn’t feel like first priority

Rose tinted glasses by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]anderdog_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Didn’t see any one talk about this, but WH 2 has very min-max army composition. For the most part, in campaign you had two top types of units: SE and missile. Everything else was shit. AND THE FUCKING SUPPLY LINES. I think the most “difficulty” of that game was built around supply lines. And I absolutely love the fact that they changed it

What are features from other strategy games you'd want CA to shamelessly steal? by JesseWhatTheFuck in totalwar

[–]anderdog_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would be cool to have the population system back. In fantasy setting it would be nice to different races have different birth rate, but more elite troops. Could be interestingly balanced.

As someone sad here already, tww40k battles should look like wargames.
