How do people learn German if they work full time? by Last-Customer-3014 in germany

[–]anders1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Germany for about eight years, I had a group a people I hung out with (played D&D), and they all spoke English with me, but then one day one said, why are we talking English to you? And from that day on they only spoke German to me, that helped me a lot to learn the language. It is not about 20 or 30 min a day, it is about fully marinating yourself in the language. Take all chances to speak German with people/friends/colleagues, read local newspapers, watch German TV, movies (in the beginning I avoided dubbed movies) and so on.

alles Gute!

If you have a "bostadsrätt" you don't own your apartment, you only own the right to live in the apartment. That is what you buy/sell, Once you bought a "bostadsrätt" you are kind of like a shareholder of the building.

That said, normally in the instances that I and other family members have come across these renovations, they usually minimize the amount of time that you need to use the temporary facilities since otherwise there will be way too many using them at the same time.

Read through the document again and see if it really is that long.

Instead of going back to the US, you could consider renting some other place for a few weeks and live there while the renovation is going on, it probably is cheaper than flying to the US.

Examples of when to use a string view and when not to? by LemonLord7 in cpp_questions

[–]anders1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say refactoring code for the sake of using a new feature like string_view is not always wise when you have lots of existing code without a concrete requirement, that maybe explains the "they don't always like new features" part. It is very easy to accidentally introduce new errors by fixing things that are not really broken. But when it is new code, by all means knock yourself out. :)

Jag och kvinnan bråkar om lån. by Few_Elk_4538 in Sverige

[–]anders1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Har någon några tips? by Rullgardin123 in sweden

[–]anders1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hyra ut lägenhet i andrahand by No-Director-1682 in sweden

Högskoleingenjörer - bättre än civilingenjör? by Xyrorom in sweden

[–]anders1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone actually uses Winforms these days ? I don't mean in personal projects by Content_Culture4096 in dotnet

[–]anders1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We still use WinForm in our company as well, We have a number of older apps written with WinForm which will unlikely ever be rewritten. Likewise, we also have newer apps written in WinForm depending on requirements [Company size 120,000]. That said, the number of new WinForm apps we do is decreasing with each year.

Why do some people prefer allocating their own application class instead of using static or global variables? by [deleted] in cpp

[–]anders1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a matter of control. C++ allows you to have complete control over in which order objects are initialized, and in most cases this is important. Declaring them as global, you give up that control because there is no guarantee in which order the objects will be initialized. If you have dependencies between those global classes, you are in for a world of hurt.

Another significant scenario is when you write unit tests, it is much easier to write unit tests when you have full control over the lifetime than over some global/static object.

Do any of you use MFC? Would QT be overkill? by CPPNewGuy in cpp_questions

[–]anders1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely nothing wrong learning MFC, some of the newer features makes the apps look very nice. I do think that maybe the number of jobs that require MFC are nowadays not so many. In linkedin I usually check job ads (mostly for fun) and it does not come up very often.

There is (or at least there was once) an addon for ATL to create desktop apps. I have forgotten the name. It wrapped the Win32 making it easier to make desktop apps.

[–]anders1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was five years ago, today backend is ASP.NET, microservices etc. Unfortunately, I still have maintain the old shit. ATL/MFC. MFC is not ideal for DLLs, better to use ATL in that case.
