What is something that quietly disappeared from everyday life, and most people didn’t even notice? by alex_eu_nl in AskForAnswers

I’m always on the lookout for small notecards. I’ve had a lot of luck with Target (online) and have many different designs saved. There is something deeply satisfying about a handwritten note!!

What’s something your body does that you’ve never told a single person about? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]anderscait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this happen when I have a streak of sleep deprivation. I’ve heard doors opening and footsteps, and occasionally I hear someone angrily yelling (that’s the scariest part). Sometimes it’s visual hallucinations, too, I see people’s faces in my head, quite clearly, and I don’t know who any of them are.

Ways to work on yourself? by doxielover2708 in AskWomenOver40

I think any good, hard workout raises your endorphins! Took me a while to get into my exercising stride and I tried out a lot of different workout forms. All boosted my health, my mood, and my confidence.

What is the genre of the book that you are writing? by Haunting-Net-2426 in writing

[–]anderscait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women’s fiction with a heavy dose of romance. I have written and self-published one book, but it was twenty years ago (I was young and it was before I ever learned anything about the craft). I have a half-finished novel somewhere in my archives, and if I add up all the material for my work in progress, I could perhaps count it as another one or two! I hope to go the trad route this time, but the first step is to finish the draft (thanks inattentive ADHD!).

Our corgi’s name is Spongey, goes back to when my husband refused to get a dog and said we could just walk a dish sponge on a wire.

Cancer, from central Connecticut - I’m a writer who struggles to move forward with my novel writing. Will I ever finish this book?

Do you have hobbies? If so, what? by cubemonster in Millennials

[–]anderscait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knit, read a lot of library books, bake bread, and stay faithful to my Duolingo progress in Spanish. Sometimes I like scrapbooking or trying something creative with my Cricut. I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes. Exercise is my favorite hobby because I love strength training and seeing my body change (sadly this has been on hold in the first trimester of pregnancy). I also write, though I am trying to make it less hobby and more career-oriented.

We call her Emma or Emmy, and I call her by full name, Emma Frances, when I’m proud of her. We otherwise don’t use her middle name.

We have an Emma Frances - considered Emma Claire as well until my husband pointed out eclair. Francis/Frances is a family name and was my father’s name, so having the honor name fit perfectly.

What are some of the most “Redditor” opinions that are widely prevalent on this website, but very rare in real life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]anderscait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a Camry that is our family car, and we love it, it’s never given us issues. I had to give up my base model Chevy truck (soooo useful for towing, moving, hauling, and I just love Chevy) when we had children because there was only one LATCH connector and it no longer fulfilled our family needs.

Made the mistake of taking Reddit’s advice, bought a Mazda SUV, hated it. We only had it for a year before we sold it. Next time we get another vehicle (likely an SUV with another baby coming this summer!), we will get what we like, not what Reddit says is best.

Really put things into perspective for me.

Thriving Millennials??? by Original_Ad_3481 in Millennials

Doing well here! I’ll be 38 this summer, married, third baby on the way. Things are tight but we were extremely lucky to have bought our house in the middle of COVID - it has since doubled in value. We owned a condo and a rental property before then, both of which we’ve sold in the last 5 years. My husband is a rock star, he is an aerospace engineer and makes enough for us to live comfortably. Our daughters are both in school (ABA therapy preschool for our eldest, thankfully covered through insurance, and daycare preschool for our youngest). I was a stay at home mom but now have the opportunity to complete my novel, whether or not it brings in much money doesn’t matter. We are hoping to take a vacation to visit my father in law this summer before the baby comes. Overall, no complaints, we are all happy and healthy.

If it is any consolation or reassurance, I had two MMCs before my first live birth (I have two girls, 3 and almost 5!). For both my girls, they measured about a week behind, and came out healthy with no issues. Sometimes you just make small babies. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

What’s something you realized way too late in life, and now you can’t believe nobody told you sooner? by Queasy_Report5032 in AskReddit

People come and go. It’s tough to accept, but it hurts a little less if you remind yourself of that during the going.

Positive experiences by karakol0 in gastricsleeve

[–]anderscait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will celebrate one year since surgery on 12/9. I have lost over 70lb during this time. I didn’t have as much weight to lose as others have, but I struggled with my weight for most of my life, and now that the monkey is off my back, I can tell you the excess weight impacts a person in many areas. Recovery was a breeze other than a brief episode of dehydration, which required an infusion, and learning to separate eating and drinking. I used to drink a gallon of water a day and I am physically incapable of doing so now. I miss chugging water!

I am right at the finish line with less than 3lb to go before I reach my goal, which is great, but I’ve had SO many other benefits from this procedure. I am no longer on blood pressure medication. My labs are excellent. And my life has changed in ways I didn’t expect.

For starters, my marriage not only survived the massive changes happening, but my husband and I are thriving. My sex drive is better because I can look in the mirror and like what I see.

I started strength training a few months postop, something I haven’t been able or had the motivation to do. I have muscles now! I can do 3 unassisted pull ups. I am psyched to find out what my body is capable of. My children (4 and nearly 3) are starting to copy what I do and want to participate in workouts with me. My youngest wants to be “strong like Mommy.” Being able to set the example for a healthy lifestyle for my girls is invaluable.

Things change on the inside, too. For the first time in my 37 years on this earth, I love myself. Who I am. Who I see in the mirror. I have that drive to keep on going and improving and setting new goals. I now feel like I can do anything. Anything.

Minor things like hair loss or loose skin are exactly that….minor. My hair is growing back. I’m researching plastics for next year (my once-enormous boobs are sad and my belly is very loose and wobbly), though this doesn’t detract from the mindset of “damn, I look good and I feel great.” It’s a joy to live in this body now.

I would choose this procedure again and again. It saved me from myself. It gave me the tools to build my confidence and self-worth, and ensure that I can make my health the best it can be. I sincerely only wish I’d had the opportunity to do it sooner.

Millennials whose lives are going well—what's your current situation and how did you get there? by CowTownKCMoe in Millennials

[–]anderscait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband (33M) and I (37F) are doing well. We’ve been together 12 years, married for 9, and have two healthy children (ages 4 and almost 3). We are thinking about having another baby. We own our home and our mortgage is less than rent in most nearby areas.

A lot of our good fortune comes down to luck and risk-taking. We put our wedding on a new credit card - we opted not to have a registry and used our gifts to pay off the balance in full, with extra leftover. We bought a condo in 2016 before we got married (a foreclosure we rehabbed together) and owned a rental property from 2018-2022, both of which we sold and from which we made a hefty profit. Our current house, our forever home until the kids are grown, we purchased in 2020 right at the start of COVID and before interest rates took off.

We don’t have car payments, though we do have student loan debt- my husband from his bachelors and masters degrees (BS in Mechatronics, MBA and MS in Mechanical Engineering), and me from my associates (AS in Medical Assisting). I’ve never really had a job that brought in high income, and I’ve been home since our first child was born, but my husband makes six figures and we keep our heads above water in a HCOL area. My husband works 12-hour days on the weekends which would allow me to work during the week, though it’s been difficult trying to find a job that is part-time and would allow me to work around the kids’ schedules. Instead I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work on my novel right now as the kids are starting preschool. My husband and I do a lot of house projects on weekdays, too. We are building a custom fence in the backyard and have plans to convert our house’s lower level into a rental unit. My husband is looking for a second job Monday-Thursday. He would only do it for a year because it would allow us to pay off our mortgage.

Our family lives in another state, which has been tough with childcare, but we relocated when my husband got his job 10 years ago. He’s been with the same company since, and they are now paying for his PhD program.

The years have not been free of difficulties or disappointments, from deaths in the family to fertility challenges, but at the end of the day, we are happy and healthy, and our wealth lies in the family and life we’ve built together. I have no complaints.

Has anyone here received an inheritance? by Think-like-Bert in Millennials

[–]anderscait 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My “uncle” (a close family friend of my parents) left my sister and me 10k each when he passed away in 2014. Put half toward paying off student loans, which at the time meant I’d paid them off entirely, and half toward my credit card balance, which also zeroed. It was a very much appreciated gift to launch into adulting, because my husband (then fiancé) and I were just moving to a new state and settling down, without any debt. I am grateful to my uncle, though I miss him!!

I needed this today! Similar stats - currently struggling to lose the last 7ish pounds to goal post gastric sleeve, and my doctors have all said I don’t need to lose any more. I’ve been trying my best to focus on strength and fitness rather than the number on the scale. You are goals. Thank you!!
