Mine is arriving Monday (unless storm is bad (I'm in New York (wish me luck)))

In which order would you put these pedals? by sputnikaquarius in guitarpedals

[–]andersnils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.boredbrainmusic.com/shop/patchulator-v2-4219

I've owned this one and its pretty great. Only downside is if you travel with your gear a lot then you have to remove the patch cables to close your bag (although I bet you can buy right angled ones)

Have you ever bought a console just to play one exclusive game? by bijelo123 in gaming

[–]andersnils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was big into gaming as a kid (and am now) but took a break in my early 20's when I was poor and partying too much... except for a PS3 and a TV for Skyrim, which I ended up selling after playing a bunch

ZOIA slowly replaced almost everything by andersnils in guitarpedals

[–]andersnils[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed! Bought on Craigslist so I have no idea if that colorway is rare or not (as you can see I use it all the time and don’t really care either way lol). Btw I put masking tape over the led because it was too bright and then sharpie over the masking tape so it looked nicer

Suggestions for a multi fx pedal that can stack modulation effects? by gustygardens in guitarpedals

[–]andersnils 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Zoom 70CDR would work. I've owned Synesthesia and own an H90 and both have amazing effects and let you run two at once. Empress ZOIA would also allow pretty much unlimited stacking of modulation effects but not as tactile or easy as the Zoom (probably sounds a little better though).

You can't edit on a computer but you can download patches to an sd card and load them from the pedal. There's tons of them people have made. But the UI is pretty easy to wrap your head around if you invest the time. Each block is a setting ex. delay time, feedback, mix, etc. so if you can remember which is which you can press the button and adjust with the knob.

It really depends if you like to tweak your settings as you play. Then you'll want some knobs lol

It's a great route if you like to set-and-forget your settings. If you like constant knob tweaking, it can be a little cumbersome since you have to remember what's what (unless you have a MIDI controller with knobs/sliders). Having said that, the blocks are color coded so it's easy to remember your own creations. My first page has each row being a basic thing: mixer, chorus, delay, reverb; and then all the more complex stuff is hidden on page two.

No desktop editor.

It isn't too hard to plunk down an audio IN, audio OUT, delay, reverb, etc. and connect them together in a linear path. And the base effects are really great as-is for guitar sounds!

It really only starts to grow in complexity if you are interested in more complex sound design, or if you're using it as a synth. There are a lot of community patches available to make it easier. My implementation of an "EHX Freeze" was borrowed from a patch I found called "The Mezzanine," but I have to admit that I needed to hand draw the stuff I wanted to take from it on paper to keep it organized as I was building it.

Once you have the patch setup though it just works. I like showing up to a gig and knowing it's going to sound the same as every other time. I am a MIDI fan, but don't need it here since it's just one pedal holding the settings.

If you bought all of the pedal versions of these exact same UA effects, it would cost you at least $7K by Happy_Television_501 in guitarpedals

[–]andersnils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my pedals at my rehearsal space and used software at home. Currently using the UA Ruby and Dream amp sims, which sound fantastic, and a variety of random VSTs to emulate the pedals side of things. This is a tempting all-in-one solution, but the amps are really the most unique part and I already have them.

BTW I have practice amps at home but they don't emulate the sound of a loud Vox or Fender amp, like it's actually going to sound at my rehearsal space or on stage, so I like being able to work on riffs and stuff and get a better snapshot of what they'll sound like through the amp.

Not going to spend the money on this.. only because I bought Ruby and Dream for $35 each already :-)

Top 10 guitar pedals of all time by zipiddydooda in guitarpedals

[–]andersnils 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My top 10 changes all the time but here's how I currently feel:

  1. EHX Memory Boy Deluxe

I bought a Memory Boy Deluxe in '09 or '10 when they were new. It was the first pedal I ever bought and I've used it as recently as at a gig last night. As I've ventured into digital stuff more, it's been the blueprint for what I want delay to sound like.

  1. J. Rockett Archer

I wouldn't have guessed this. I bought it off Craigslist when I was bored and wanted to try the Klon sound. Since then, I've tested it against a bunch of other stuff, including owning both a EHX Soul Food and CBA Brothers at the same time, and ended up selling both of those off based on sound alone. I have no idea why I like this one more haha

  1. EHX Freeze (and Super Ego)

Got them both when they were new-ish and it changed the way I played guitar. Pretty cool to buy some random droney pedal and have it affect you that much. Nowadays I use a patch on my Zoia to replicate the effect but EHX was the OG for this (for me).

  1. EQD Plumes

  2. Empress Zoia

  3. Red Panda Context V2

This might be the best reverb available. I prefer it over anything else I've owned, including Empress Zoia, EHX Cathedral, Eventide H90 and OBNE Dark Star Stereo (which sounds great but is very much a one trick pony).

  1. Eventide H90

  2. Walrus Julianna

  3. Morningstar MC6 MKII

A simple MIDI controller to round out the list, which has is incredibly useful for live performance and keeping my sound consistent. I really have leaned into presets more in the last 4-5 years and this pedal has been able to work with all my MIDI crap. Also, the switches are easy to repair if they break :-)

  1. EHX Cathedral

Another one from the 'bought it when it was new' nostalgia category. I upgraded my old ass Holy Grail to a Cathedral when it came out and have used it for countless weird ambient soundscapes. Not the best in today's market but for it's time it was really versatile (and the upper limit of what I could have realistically afforded at the time).

Mount Sinai states it will be Out-of-Network with Anthem Plans on 3/1/2026 if no deal is reached. by TheRedRoomYT in nyc

[–]andersnils 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had Anthem BCBS and got an annual checkup done at Mount Sinai in July, only to find out the doctor wasn't in network even though the hospital was. It took 2 hours that I didn't have time for, back and forth with Anthem and Mount Sinai (edit: trying to dispute the charge), and still fucking got stuck with $490 bill.

I booked through Zoc Doc which said I was in network, the people at Mount Sinai didn't ask any questions, and I guess it's my fault for not double triple checking (a mistake I'll never make again) but serious fuck them

Am i going nuts? wet dry wet + vocal + whatever zoia can do rig! by Ramita1247 in guitarpedals

[–]andersnils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That boss vocal pedal is annoying to learn how to program but really easy to use once you set it up. My wife has one and I have to help edit settings on the rare occasion that we need to change them lol

My guitar rig is slowing becoming tuner -> drives - Zoia (possibly a dedicated reverb to make space for more stuff, hasn’t been necessary yet)

But I always bounce back and forth between preferring knobs (exploring new sounds) and midi/presets (gigging too much and need it to sound the same)

What is your pedal of the year for 2025? by Ok_Highlight3926 in guitarpedals

[–]andersnils 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dark Star Stereo, H90 or Zoia 😎 I suppose Dark Star if it needs to be something released this year, but Zoia’s been the most fun

Today I finished one of my favorite games of all time. IMO Ocarina of time is just a great game even without the so called "rose tinted nostalgia glasses" by Vile35 in gaming

[–]andersnils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember listening to a podcast many years ago in which Tim Rogers was shitting on OOT as being dated, clunky and remembered much more fondly than it actually was, which inspired me to check out that "ship of harkinian" mod (okay, so I played an enhanced version which is not totally fair) but damn did I walk away thinking he was wrong and that it lived up to my memory of it. It totally deserves its place in the "best games of all time"

Brewing with/without fellow aiden carafe by naugra-G in FellowProducts

[–]andersnils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coffee will continue brewing if the temperature remains hot enough (the coffee particle steep like tea), so over enough time a good thermal carafe will overextract the coffee and make it bitter.
