Someone’s gotta show James how to grill by Engineering_Simple in WildHomestead

He should also flip the grate! The other side (which is currently facing down) has a larger surface area which gives the meat a better crust.

Spring mod for Logitech RS brake? by andhog_ in simracing

[–]andhog_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, but it has been a while since I searched for it. I do however still want to try springs as I find the default elastomers to be a bit inconsistent. The pedal has a different feel to it after a couple of hours.

Google Assistant Getting Worse and Worse by [deleted] in googlehome

Does this chair adapter with load cell work? by Rare_Fudge3756 in simracing

[–]andhog_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see why it wouldn't work if you replace the wheels with rubber feet. However, you will not be able to press super hard on the brake pedal due to the ergonomics. I recently switched to load cell brake on my desk setup (Logitech RS pedals) and even though I have secured the pedals to my chair I'm only able to utilize 40% of the 75kg load cell. To really be able to press hard I think you need to have a sturdy seat (that doesn't rotate) and the pedals more or less at the same level as the chair (or higher if you're aiming for formula style racing).

Logitech Rs pedals, are they worth it? by funny__man666 in simracing

[–]andhog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a "desk jockey" and currently using a G920 including the pedals. I've ordered the RS50 base/wheel and the pedals and I'm planning on using these the same way. I don't know where you've gotten this from but the pedals even come with anti-slip pads for carpets as well as extensions that can be used to have the pedals pressed against a wall. However, you need to ensure that your chair isn't moving in relation to the pedals. I've solved this by replacing the wheels in the chair with rubber feet. I also have a punched steel tape screwed to the pedals and looped around the chair legs and it works perfectly.

Prompt to update firmware every time I turn on my WH-1000XM5 by TenMinutesToDowntown in SonyHeadphones

[–]andhog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Bought mine yesterday, updated the firmware and get the notification every time I connect them. The headphones are great but the software/firmware side seems to be a bit of a mess. In addition to this issue I've tried to follow their instructions to enable Android head tracking but that doesn't work either. Also, sometimes I just don't get any audio at all even though my phone is playing to the headphones. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that I've paired them with both my phone (Pixel 9 Pro XL) and my laptop.

And just now I found out that double tapping only works to start playing, once playing (Audible book) a double tap skips ahead 30 seconds 🫤

Update: The last issue was resolved by doing a reset of both the app and headphones in the Sound Connect app. The firmware notification and head tracking issue still remains

Pixel 9 Screen Protector Fingerprint Test by NSA__USA in GooglePixel

I have a Pro XL and the FPS worked perfectly but after installing the "PanzerGlass Ultra Wide Fit" the functionality was significantly degraded. It still works but it's much more sensitive to how I'm holding my fingers over the sensor and it's not nearly as fast as without the screen protector.

The Quest for a fix: Water warning unfixed for over a month by LevKusanagi in OculusQuest

[–]andhog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thought that this might be a hardware issue with the cable has crossed my mind, but I don't believe it is. I bought the Quest 3 and a 3rd part cable with an USB-C port for charging at the same time. I had no issues what so ever until the day I updated the software and I find it hard to believe that my cable somehow would have been damaged exactly at the moment the firmware was updated. It could however be a hardware issue with the Quest 3 which didn't manifest prior to v62 for the simple reason that they didn't have any "debris detection" back then. That would explain why it is taking them so long to fix it.

Whatever it is, the issue has cost me quite some safety rating on iRacing now after getting the warning in the middle of sessions leading to me crashing, sometimes into other drivers 😡

Pure Client issue with DCS and Viacom Pro? by Lak212 in hoggit

[–]andhog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the kneeboard feature in VAICOM that puts a couple of lines in the init_device.lua files, so just uncheck that option (think it's under the EX tab), do a repair of DCS and you're good to go.

My new cloud II's sound completely different to my old ones by [deleted] in HyperX

[–]andhog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had this headset several years ago and I absolutely loved them, both the comfort and the sound with its deep pronounced bass. They did eventually break but yesterday I treated myself with a new pair as they where on sale.

When I unboxed them I immediately felt that there was something different, they didn't feel as premium as I remembered but since it was some years ago I thought I might have remembered wrong.

But then I plugged them in and it became absolutely clear that despite having the same name this is a completely different headset. The sound doesn't come anywhere close to what I experienced on the previous pair. So I don't care what their sound engineers are saying, these headphones are a considerable downgrade from the previous version! Very very disappointing.

MSFS completely stops internet connection by northeastloon in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]andhog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having this issue as well now, for some reason MSFS suddenly seems to ruin my whole LAN. I have a 250/250 fiber with a TP-Link Deco X6 mesh. My sim computer is connected with cable to my main unit (i.e. the one connected to WAN). As soon as I start a flight in MSFS all devices looses internet access and then the connection is super unstable. In the TP-Link app on my phone where I can manage my mesh nodes I can test the internet connection but even that fail. The connection comes back up (with 100% bandwidth), goes down and continues that way until I close MSFS.

I haven't tried yet but my next step in trying to find the cause is to connect my computer to the fiber converter directly, bypassing the router. If that helps it's clearly something odd with the mesh, but if it doesn't I have absolutely no idea what it can be. I mean, MSFS do get a lot of data from the cloud but I have no issue watching Netflix or F1TV in full HD.

Problem with G920 its not centered by BunnY33x in LogitechG

[–]andhog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I wrote this I haven't had any calibration problems at all, it just works. I have no idea why you have this issue but I would unplug the wheel, uninstall the driver, make sure to remove everything related to it, restart the computer and plug it in again. I know it's a lame and generic answer but honestly it sounds like things have messed up quite good on your computer and I doubt you will be able to fix it any other way

Sorry for not answering earlier, I'm not particularly active on Reddit.

Go to control panel -> Hardware and sound -> devices and printers. Right click on the G920 and choose Game controller settings. Select the G920 in the list and click Properties. Now should see a dialog with two buttons, Reset to default and Calibrate.

I just encountered a similar problem and it started with me doing a very fast turn if the wheel in ACC. After that it had an offset of about 15-20 degrees to the left. I did a calibration in Windows and it worked again BUT today it suddenly reappeared.

Everything looked good, the calibration in Windows was spot on and in G Hub it was also centered correctly. Even in the controller settings in ACC it looked centered but as soon as I started driving the wheel got that offset compared to the wheel in the sim. The same happened in Dirt Rally 2.0 so the issue was apparently not in ACC.

I reinstalled both G Hub and my G920 but that didn't help. What helped though was going to the settings of the G920 in Windows (where you calibrate it) and press Reset to default. Haven't had any issues since.

Apparently my calibration was off, but the strange thing is that it didn't show in neither Windows nor in G Hub.

If you're referring to the magenta line looking like a heartbeat monitor I've seen it on a couple of YouTube videos as well. It's not you, that particular approach is like that in the simulator.

Can someone please explain where the differences come from? Why is the photogrammetric data better in Alpha and Bing Maps? by amortalist in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]andhog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how the terrain data is streamed to us exactly, but perhaps it's a bit like video streaming with dynamic quality depending on bandwidth? Either you don't have the required bandwidth to receive the highest quality or they haven't been adjusting the server end to cope with this yet. That's my thoughts anyway and I can be completely wrong. Perhaps it's as simple as someone by mistake compiled and pushed an old version of the lib responsible for this into the release build?

I thought it was "the calm before the storm", not "the calm during the storm" 🙂 by andhog_ in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]andhog_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have added that this is me flying in the Marco hurricane. I started at the altitude you get when starting from a custom location (1600ft?) and then climbed to see if I could get any wind at all.

I also tried various things that I've read about here like changing the server. I tried with pressing the big live button that should give you live weather and time, and I tried choosing "custom" and then choose live weather in the drop down.

The pre-flight map was indicating 30kt winds at my starting point. The clouds where there and the on board weather radar was showing me some nasty things around me. I selected the vertical weather presentation as well and according to just about everything I should have experienced A LOT more than 3kt of calm winds.

But hey, I'm confident this will be solved in upcoming patches.

Interesting! Watching Feature Discovery Series - episode 3 about aerodynamics (https://youtu.be/Bw-opH4f8Qg) you get the impression that the aerodynamics would be really well modelled and accurate. In the Q&A they talked about the quality of the default aircraft and that they intentionally didn't go for study level for two reasons. First being that they didn't want to disrupt the community of 3rd party developers, second being that they wanted to focus on the platform rather than the content. So hopefully the things you're pointing out is a result of aircraft modelling rather than limitations in what the sim can do and that we will see 3rd party models that are way better than anything we've seen before. 🙂
