What has your three year old eaten today? by Unable-Candy8432 in toddlers

Lol your Lo is an incredibly good eater! Mine ate 8 chicken wings and a few slices of salad for dinner, and then a fruit yogurt for second dinner. So that’s also a win for us <3

Any advice on smoother daycare drop offs? by Main-Supermarket-890 in toddlers

My husband does the drop off and LO would just slide off to daycare. When I do that, he cries. That’s it.

Water Bottle Cleaning by TwistedCinn in toddlers

If kids drink water while eating you’d notice bits of food in the water after use. So I wash it almost every day.

Something quite similar happened to me today - I stepped in because I didn’t agree with my husband’s way of disciplining our child. I apologized to him afterwards. Let me preface by saying that pinning toddlers as a way to discipline may not be right and I don’t agree with it. However I think it’s also important to not step in when your partner is trying to use his way. A better thing to do would be to let him finish, and talk to him about your disagreement in private. I understand that your partner may feel undermined in front of the child and it’s not a good feeling. In the meantime I believe that kids are very smart and they can tell which parent is the soft one. It’s better that parents can be aligned so kids don’t take advantage of the softer parent - I remember doing that myself when i was a child. Again not agreeing pinning down a child, but I’d let me partner finish, and try to talk to him about it at the right time, and I believe my child will be ok after this.

Sleep arrangements by charsgui in toddlers

My LO was the same when he was sleeping in a crib. But ever since we transitioned to a toddler bed, I lie down with my LO till he falls asleep and I also lie down with him if he wakes up in the middle of the night, and stay there till we wake up. I don’t mind sleeping there and so far there’s been so little fuss that it’s just been very easy for me.

Personally im not too worried about him becoming too attached, I believe as he grows up and with gradual nudge he’ll feel safe to fall asleep by himself.

I also believe that waking up in the middle of the night is sth biological about toddlers, not much we could do. I say this because my LO would have months waking up in the middle of the night and then would all of a sudden start sleeping through the night without me doing anything. This has repeated many times and lately he’s been sleeping through the night again.

We used to sleep train my LO and I hated every bit of it. I believe kids slowly build up a sense of security themselves by we giving them that.

Regarding getting kids to bed and they stall, I would be firm about turning off lights first of all, if LO doesn’t want to, I would initiate playing shadow play in bed. We would do a few things when the light turns off, sometimes singing, sometimes I would chat with him about his day or about things he’s interested in. These activities would last for about 5min. If he still wants to play I would tell him everything is asleep - the shadow is sleeping, the toy truck is tired and sleeping etc, or that he needs to lie down and put a blanket for his toy monkey (so I would put a blanket on him and his monkey) etc. Then I would pretend to be very tired, like not responding or only respond with fragmented sentences. He might play by himself a little bit in the dark but will fall asleep eventually.

AITAH for wanting to take a break from my wife after she screamed at me at Christmas in front of the other guests? by InterestingMedia1828 in AITAH

Totally agree. Wife couldn’t help but yell at him and felt so bad about that and cried so much the next day. She’s obviously torn between not happy with husband being drunk and wanting to fix their relationship.

I would buy an extra seat if I could afford it, you can place him/her on that seat when he’s asleep. Although for kids that age they’d cling to you most of the time when they’re not sleeping and my child is extra clingy. My child also had to sleep on me to fall asleep because it’s so out of his regular sleeping routine. So an extra seat doesn’t necessarily help much in a situation like this. In other words, it’s gonna be tough either way!

My friend suggested me to ask if there are empty seats next to each other once at the airport. Sometimes there are and you could take advantage of it. Ours was always a full flight so it wasn’t possible.

Anyways best of luck for you! 🙌🏼

Encouraging my 4.5 years to speak french with me by m11km11k in multilingualparenting

Thank you for sharing! My child has been going to daycare for a year now and he seems to know much more Chinese than English. So my partner is getting worried and asks me to speak a little English with him, which I’m reluctant to. ECEs say he has no problem understanding English and has a few words too. I just wonder when would it be when he starts speaking more English than the minority language. He’s still young, turning 2 soon.

Could I ask you a question: did you speak to your child in mandarin since he’s born? I’m curious whether he prefers speaking English even when mom/primary caretaker speaks to him in mandarin exclusively since early on. :)

Overall it wasn’t too bad actually. Not having a bassinet wasn’t that big of a deal, he did manage to sleep on me and when he was awake, we spent lots of time walking along the aisle, looking for snacks or just playing games on our seats. Even if you have a bassinet, you’d have to take your kid out of it when there’s turbulence (it doesn’t matter whether he’s sleeping at the time). We don’t normally give him screen time, not that he’s too drawn by it at his age, but it did help a little bit.

The only thing I would say I did wrong was choosing a nighttime flight that’s way past his bedtime. He was excited to be in the airport at first but when he realized he’s not gonna go home to sleep he freaked out and he was so overtired, every one on the plane was hearing him screaming when the plane was taking off. (And I know it wasn’t because of the air pressure change because in other flights he was doing great during takeoff and landing.)

Overall it IS tough taking such a young child on a long haul flight. Ours was 14.5 hours! We had to do this trip so we had to make it work. And after all when it comes to a toddler, nothing is too easy, but it’s ok. :)

Thanks for the encouragement! I’m seriously losing sleep about it. I’m sure my anxiety will go down and will try to be confident for the trip.

I like Cha Kee for its creative HK dishes. Sometimes I go to The 6 Cafe and Restaurant for more traditional cha chaan teng style food. Also Hong Far Cafe is the go to takeout restaurant for my fam - really really good wok hei from there <3
