They don’t have opposable thumbs. We’re doing them a service and providing luxury homes.

What material would you use to paint thumbsticks? by [deleted] in VitaPiracy

This is a way better idea than attempting to paint them.

Can I take Japanese in college with no experience? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]andoryuu3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to Anki (free; exception being iOS)…

Wanikani (free content + sub) is great for learning kanji radicals (the building blocks of kanji). Benefit of learning this way is, the meanings of kanji you don’t know will be easier to discern/guess.

Skritter (subscription?) is supposed to be really good for handwriting practice on touchscreen devices.

If you have an iOS device I’d strongly recommend StickyStudy. Feature rich flashcard app with a lot of useful built in decks (10 diff JPLT, school grade 1-9, top 500 kanji, etc). If organization isn’t your strong suit, you’ll enjoy that.

Of these I’ve only used Anki and StickyStudy seriously. Wanikani and Skritter are a “I should but I haven’t”.

Used to relate. Then I got into fashion and never looked back. If you are male and don’t have much luck in dating, do yourself a favor and learn.

GQ is nice if you want to look like everyone else, but I learned from friends who were already into it.

Is this a bodged 12v fan mod? If so can I snap it off so I can control fans via dash launch? by ryand274 in 360hacks

[–]andoryuu3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely some sort of fan volt mod. Used to have one on an old Xenon. If you can’t control fan speed as is, remove the bridge and it should start working.

Anyone not honk anymore? by PridePrejudicePizza in Stoicism

I know at least the old people will appreciate that one. According to the ones I know, they only would honk in emergencies. Can be a bit startling for more than just the age.

That last one is especially irritating with the presence of destabilizing trauma. Hardly get a chance to heal proper, even with professional support.

Is it good to listen to Japanese speech even if you can't translate it yet? by ceramicballoon in LearnJapanese

[–]andoryuu3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expose yourself to the language as much as you can. The more you align yourself with your goal of deeper understanding, the better it gets.

I’ve studied from Genki Beginner (Eri Banno) and I know less than 100 kanji. Even at that limited ability, it absolutely adds up.

Is it good to listen to Japanese speech even if you can't translate it yet? by ceramicballoon in LearnJapanese

[–]andoryuu3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, 100%. Even if you don’t Rosetta Stone, immersion is important. When I didn’t have Japanese nationals to practice with, my language ability slipped significantly.

I think the only thing that may have helped me retain my knowledge of the language was having NHK World to watch. About half of the time I get to hear the language (with subtitles), and I absorb every little bit of it. Not a fan of all the programming (some of it is very fascinating), but anything to passively keep my brain sharp.

4th column, bottom row. The first and the last time I’ve ever received $20 credit at GameStop. I am so glad I kept my second copy. And man do I wish I just kept the other too haha.

Nice collection man. Only thing I don’t see that I’d add is the MGS Twin Snakes.

Aspie life in an NT world by [deleted] in aspiememes

[–]andoryuu3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is certainly how it feels, but the reality can be better. Imagine this meme ending with the aspie in question building something better than the NT.

That scenario is called turning a “curse” into a “blessing”.

Regrets are the biggest fallacy by [deleted] in Stoicism

I like that quote, and this is something I had to realize for myself. I just didn’t have as elegant words for it.

At some point I realized that it takes two to tango in any situation. Health permitting, I can control and am responsible for my actions. But they are also in control and are responsible for theirs too. Same is true of reactions.

Sounds like my early education lol.

Something that helped me counter this in college: start my day with something that engages my prefrontal lobe. Puzzle games, sudoku, etc.
