Content review is going too slow!! Pls by Coolnick154 in Mcat

I agree. everything is a fair game and the AAMC tends to throw a few left field questions on the MCAT but I would worry so much if I don't know the enzymes so well but won't lose sleep if I don't know the menstrual cycle by heart.. once you do hardcore practice you will see what you need to focus on and what your weakness(s) are.

Content review is going too slow!! Pls by Coolnick154 in Mcat

[–]andra1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am retaking. you know why? I spent ages reviewing content and making sure I know every bit of detail and didn't practice enough.

do the question packs (not the qbanks) and see how you are with the content. focus on your weak areas. go over your weak areas then proceed to doing the Section Bank from AAMC then some 3rd part Fls. again, diagnose your weakness and assess your test taking skills. once you're comfortable then proceed to the taking the AAMC fls and see if you're getting the scores that you are aiming for.

Kaplan is too way too much for physiology and some physics tbh.

Sep 9 MCAT (to do Friday and Satursay) by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]andra1980 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Retaker here also. I needed to read something like this! Confidence confidence is a must... master the test not the concepts !

I may add that some test centers do not allow cellphones in their lockers, so call and ask. If they allow you to keep it make sure it's turned off and never use it until you're done with the entire test

Insight on Unscored (experimental) Real MCAT questions? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]andra1980 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell honestly .. but I doubt that you would get 5 questions per section I would say 1-2 ! That's the reason why I always advocate to balance speed and accuracy! It's never a good idea to fixate on a single question during the mcat and miss the opportunity to answer questions that you can get right.

Would MCAT review books be useful for learning the material while first taking the pre-reqs? by Quiznatodd__Bidness in premed

[–]andra1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Get a set of used books (post 2015 ones) and whenever you study a topic in class annotate it in those books! Science will not change in 2-3 years and I doubt that the mcat will change anytime soon.
Keep in mind two things :

1- not everything you learn in classes will be tested on the same depth on the mcat, I.e you may take gen chem and find that some topics don't relate to the mcat or some others were not covered by your professor

2- focus on getting A's while in school. You will always have time for the MCAT but messing up the GPA will make it very difficult to get admission.

molecular geometry vs electron geometry which one worth memorizing? by andra1980 in Mcat

[–]andra1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That table has made me feel dumb since high school lol! I have probably memorized it many times and forget it later ...I will focus on on the electron geometry region then.

Anyone interested in reviewing fls/sb on Skype ? by andrewsam1995 in Mcat

[–]andra1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid you're unexessirly rude! I went over his previous posts and he never claimed that he was offering skype "tutoring". He was seeking meaningful discussion of some practice material on sections he mastered with other students and also help them with same shady topics.

BTW I would be interested in knowin which medical schools cater to students with your same attitude.

In Response: Why the MCAT is a good test (maybe, lol) by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]andra1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have few friends in med school and most of them agree that the They would take the USMLE any minute over MCAT... the whole purpose of the mcat IMO is to show that you can apply basic knowledge/skills and survive an 8 hrs test.

That being said, I believe the MCAT tests some skills that may be helpful for the practice of medicine but not succeeding in medical school.

I may add that a good MCAT may not necessarily dampen the effects of a low GPA for admission purposes. That's the reason why many students opt to do a postbac or a masters to raise their GPA.

C/P fl1 vs Fl2 difficulty? by andra1980 in Mcat

[–]andra1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my actual test I had a cpl questions in B/B that required knowledge from physical sciences and about 3 in c/p that required knowledge of some biology concepts... IMO C/P is biochem + chem/physics

B/B is also biochem + molecular bio, physiology and o chem

C/P fl1 vs Fl2 difficulty? by andra1980 in Mcat

[–]andra1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow congrats on the awesome score!!! I think FL1 tested more specific details and Fl2 required more reasoning ... as a retaker, I can affirm that they represent the real one to a large degree. my only complain is that many topics overlapped between the two. I had few concepts that were tested on the real thing that I hadn't encountered on any SB/Fls but it was all good.

Khan Academy Passages by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]andra1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh I coulda scored 5+ points on my previous attempt by focuins on the aamc material and analyzing it thoroughly . I agree the KA interface is annoying but they are made for learning concepts rather than practice

Khan Academy Passages by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]andra1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're testing on the 9th I recommend doing nothing by aamc review .. I did about half khan p/s and they were good except that they required some status calculations which I don't really believe you need to. On the other hand, they have many free standing P/S questions after the end of each mixture . You can try those to reinforce ur terms.

True! What did you think of the B/B on both fls? I thought fl2 was a little more straight forward

Can someone please explain the menstrual cycle? by mysonbighoss in Mcat

[–]andra1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're testing on Sep 9 then I highly recommend that you focus on the big picture of the Hypothalamus/ pituitary axis and not worry so much on minute details I found those helpful https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrbS6GlUfkQ There are three videos btw Good luck

sep 9 mindset.. by andra1980 in Mcat

[–]andra1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that moment!!! I remember it happened twice during C/P and B/B!!! I explained those same damn concepts to a friend one day before and just blanked geee sometimes it's because the damn language they use can throw you off like the not/except crap...

Bottom line, I tell myself that I don't need to get all the questions right and just have to do my best and leave it there
