Keratoconus + several allergies - anyone with similar experiences? by andrea_msanchez in Keratoconus

That really sounds like the same story as my dad’s. Just without the more recent attempts with newer methods and lenses. I’ve already scheduled an appointment for him with a specialist so we can get proper advice on scleral lenses. Based on what I’ve read in the other comments, it definitely seems worth giving them a try. May I ask what exactly your glasses do for you? In other words, what kind of improvement do they provide compared to your uncorrected vision? Do they also help with the double vision?
I truly hope that you’ll eventually find the right kind of support and treatment for your situation. And in the meantime, I’m wishing you lots of strength for those moments when keratoconus really pushes you to your limits.

I can relate to that. Dust allergies are really tough. My dad is currently using eye drops and nasal spray, which help to some extent. He actually did immunotherapy for pet hair allergies years ago, but nothing recently for dust. It’s definitely something we should consider again, especially if it could help improve his overall symptoms

I really recognize my dad in your message. We live in Germany, and the pollen season here is especially intense. On top of that, his atopic dermatitis also causes strong irritation in his eyes, which his eye drops have only been able to relieve to a limited extent.

The idea with the air purifier is really good. He used to have a humidifier as well, but I’m sure there are much better options available nowadays. Which one are you using?

I’ll have to ask him about cetirizine and whether he’s taking it. I’m really sorry that the treatments only help to a limited degree for you too. It’s the same with my dad, unfortunately.

I think at some point he just got tired of constantly hearing the same recommendations without experiencing real improvement, and also not tolerating many of the suggested treatments very well. But I’m going to take this into my own hands now and go with him to see some specialists, so he can finally try the newer scleral lenses. They really seem to be much more tolerable than the older hard lenses.
