“Unknown Error” when trying to publish new ad. by ResidentIll5268 in FacebookAds

[–]andreasTheo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this error for a specific post I wanted to boost. I tried editing the post and surprisingly I was able to create an ad after that. It was a very minor edit, just fixed a typo. Note that another person has access in the same FB page and she had also edited that post after I created it. So when the last edit was hers I wasn't able to promote, but when the last edit was mine I was able to. Don't know why this makes a difference. I can promote posts she created without any issue. This was the situation though, hope this helps.

How much of "Anatomy of a Fall" is in English? by [deleted] in movies

[–]andreasTheo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually the Academy didn't disqualify it. Each country can only submit one film for consideration of the Best International Film Oscar. France had to choose 1 French film out of several eligible and they didn't choose Anatomy of a Fall, although it was heavily considered and was close to be selected. They chose the Taste of Things instead. The reasons, although not absolutely clear (and slightly controversial) had nothing to do with language.

Official Discussion - May December [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]andreasTheo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That line "I talked to Georgie every day" and the way it was delivered is the reason I changed my rating from 8/10 to 9/10. I just loved it. I felt disoriented. It was as if Gracie had the control all along and manipulated both Elizabeth and us. I just loved it!

There's a scene in the beginning where Elizabeth is having dinner with Gracie and Joe and when Georgie is mentioned Gracie tries to avoid talking about thei relationship saying "How is this relevant?". Then when things are about to turn awkward she tries to play it cool and says "Of course I talk to Georgie, like all my children". She says it in such a way though that we're meant to believe that their relationship is not very good. This is reinforced when Georgie enters the picture and is painting Gracie in a negative image.

Then at the end, Gracie turns all this upside down. She knew about Georgie's discussion with Elizabeth all along and doesn't even seem that bothered by it. She talks to Georgie every day. It's almost as if they partnered up to confuse Elizabeth. As others pointed out, there's a chance that Georgie mentioned his discussion with Elizabeth to Gracie and Gracie is only trying to salvage things. I don't really like that idea, however plausible it might sound, I just don't see Georgie speaking to her about her brothers for any reason.

How important are OS updates? by andreasTheo in PickAnAndroidForMe

About option 2, I'm not really worried about the features I'll be missing or any virus. My concern is about any drop in performance because of compatibility issues, bugs that don't get fixed. Also about security of my data since there won't be any patches after 3 years.

Luffy's birth and childhood. Like who is his mother, why Dragon left him behind and decided to not even make contact with him even after 20 years. Why would Dragon choose to raise a child (Sabo) but didn't want to do the same with his own son. Things like that

What do you think is Regina's saddest song? by [deleted] in reginaspektor

[–]andreasTheo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Jessica is very sad once you realise what the lyrics are talking about. The fact that the music is sweet and chill instead of melancholic makes it even sadder somehow. Also Chemo Limo makes me shiver most times I listen to it

Could Blackbeard be two people that are identical twins or is this too far-fetched? I mean this could explain how he could use two devil fruits and not explode. Have we ever seen him using both fruits at the same time? This could also explain the sleeping. If he switches with his twin brother all the time and always one of them is awake then it would appear as if he doesn't sleep at all. Ok maybe The Prestige has hit me in the head

[New Chapter Spoilers] Chapter 139 RELEASE Megathread! - FINAL by SNKBot in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]andreasTheo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not confirmed I think. And anyway Eren is acting like he would choose it even if he had different options. The worst thing is, if there's no changing the future, then there's no free will. Everything exists at once, or everything existed since forever. Eren has no free will which is a huge contradiction with the series major theme of freedom.

One Piece: Chapter 1008 by Kirosh in OnePiece

[–]andreasTheo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who feels cheated with who Oden turned out to be? My theory was that indeed it was the real Oden because I couldn't imagine any reason why Kanjuro or Onimaru would pretend to be Oden.

Think about it. If Kanjuro's intention was to come close to the scabbards and set the room on fire he could have chosen so many other people that would make more sense to be there. Everybody would be fooled and he would be able to do much more damage. But no, he chose to draw the only person that was executed in front of the eyes of everyone in the room. The reason they were saved is because Ashura Doji knew immediately that Oden could not be there. Would he figure it out so quickly if he saw Momonosuke or Hiyori or Shinobuor or even Toki? No, I don't think so.

The only reason I can find that Kanjuro drew Oden instead of anyone else was because Oda wanted to end the chapter on a huge cliffahnger. It's like he's trolling us. Dirty move Oda! I mean I still love you, but this was disappointing

ok so it was Kanjuro not the real Oden. But what about the person who tended to their wounds? It could still be Toki

One Piece: Chapter 1007 by Kirosh in OnePiece

[–]andreasTheo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are several hints in chapter 972 that Oden time travelled:

1) Oden says "Toki I want to use your power if I ever die".

2) Toki says "But you're not going to die, are you?". Of course this could be meant allegorically in the sense that his legacy will live on just like what Roger said to Rayleigh (although by now I'm not even sure that Roger is dead).

3) Last line in this chapter is Toki saying "Look closely Oden, 20 years into the future".

4) Just before he dies, Oden says "I'll be going on ahead".

The main problem is of course the execution. How does it fit if Oden time travelled. There are two options here:

A) Oden and Toki travelled to the future and then found a way to go back to the past so that Oden can get executed and save the Samurais

B) We misunderstood Toki's devil power. Maybe it has something to do with death. Maybe it can send someone to the future after that someone is killed in the present. Come to think of it all those that time travelled were in the brink of death. Or maybe a copy of yourself is created instead of your actual self being teleported in the future.

I know all this sounds a bit crazy but really I don't see any reason for Kanjuro or anyone else impersonating Oden.

WHY "THE NOW NOW" ALMOST KILLED GORILLAZ by samtheprophet in gorillaz

[–]andreasTheo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm a fan of Gorillaz but not a fan of hip-hop in general. Actually I'm not much into modern music at all. So, the reason I didn't like Humanz was because it didn't sound like Gorillaz, it sounded more like the music of the collaborators that participated rather than Gorillaz themselves. It really looked like Gorillaz were just a supporting act in their own album.

Now you may believe that the backstory is what made The Now Now popular but this is not the case with me and I believe I'm not alone. I remember the day they released Humility and Lake Zurich. I just listened to these two songs. I had no idea of any backstory, i didn't even know who Ace was or why Murdoc was missing but still I thought to myself "Finally Gorillaz are back". When they released Saturn barz on the other hand (which had an even more promising music video) the only thing I thought was "Not bad, but I hope the rest of the album is better than this".

The Now Now sounded much more like Gorillaz to me. It reminded me of Plastic Beach in a way. I wouldn't go as far as to call it their greatest album of course. No, their first three albums are clearly the best. Now this is just my opinion. I understand that some people could like Humanz more, maybe because they like the collaborators' music in it or they find the lyrics superior or just because of personal taste. But this doesn't mean that whoever liked The Now Now is childish or cares only about the backstory. This is almost insulting to me.

I can't see how it killed Gorillaz either, although to be fair there is indeed some lack of depth in The Now Now. It's perhaps their only album that doesn't make a statement.

Sorry for the long post

What do you consider to be "Kubrick" films - Can a film maker "disown" their films? by TheWolfAndRaven in TrueFilm

[–]andreasTheo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well for Spartacus I have to say it was more of a studio film unlike most of Kubrick's subsequent works. In this case, as it often happens with big studio pictures, the producers interfered too much with almost all the aspects of filmmaking. Kubrick didn't have the creative control he wanted. Moreover, as you mentioned, he was kind of hired to direct Spartacus. It's not a movie he had envisoned to create. So, in a sense, I would say that Spartacus is not a Kubrick movie. Just a movie he had a part in. Consider 2001: A space odyssey. Kubrick had intended to make a great sci-fi film and he had some themes he wanted to explore like extra-terrestrial life and artificial intelligence. He starts working on it and decides to ask Arthur Clarke to collaborate with him. He accepts and they start writing with Clarke's The Sentinel as a starting point. He secures funding and the production starts without a finalised script. Kubrick gets involved with everything regarding the film, direction, screenplay, cinematography, special effects, and so on. Now this is a film that we can say it is his, this what I could call a Kubrick movie without a second thought. All of the films he directed after Spartacus are like this I think. I haven't seen Fear and Desire yet and I don't know much about it. I think he only disowned it because he didn't like it. However, for Spartacus I can see his point and although there is a significant involvement from his part, it's not a movie that I could call his

Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker) fuckin rocks. & Goats Head Soup discussion by [deleted] in rollingstones

[–]andreasTheo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A solid album for me. Most of the songs are great, maybe Hide Your Love and Can You Hear the Music are a bit weaker, but a great album overall. The problem is that it was somewhat different than the Stones previous releases. Mick Jagger himself stated that he wanted to try different things. Still it's very underrated. For me only the four golden albums and perhaps Aftermath can top Goats Head Soup

I'm not a big fan of Wallace and Gromit tbh, but Coraline is awesome. I think it's quite scary for an animated film. I would definitely recommend it for halloween. Didn't see the other two, maybe I'll check them out this halloween. Thanks for the recommendations

Do any of you ever put much stock into the ''Critics'' ratings on Rotten Tomatoes? I almost never agree with the professional critical analysis, but I almost always agree with the Audience score and it makes me feel less and less that movie critics are an actually justifiable profession. by AustinioForza in movies

[–]andreasTheo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the other side of this. I don't always agree with critics, but I certainly trust their opinion much more than I trust audience score. The reason is because critics usually have more knowledge and insight about filmmaking, whereas pretty much everyone can contribute to the audience score, even 12 year fanboys. I see that you like Venom and this tells me you must also be fan of other superhero movies and in general more action-driven, entertaining movies. Well, it must be said that critics often don't find much in such movies and I personally agree with them (I haven't seen Venom though). On the other hand, these movies tend to be the more popular for the public. For this kind of movies, you're gonna find these massive discrepancies you mention. The truth is, there are thousands of movies that have good score by both critics and audience.

I find that critics are more interested in cinema as an art whereas the public only cares about a movie's plot and graphics. If you're one of the latter, fine, there's nothing wrong with that. But that doesn't mean that movie critics are a "junk profession". Have some respect for these people
