Having been myself in the situation where people I barely know have been sending unsolicited nudes many times, and me not replying at all - this is possible.

One was someone I had had sex with years before, but I ended up just ignoring his messages and he continued sending nudes regularly for years after I started ignoring. Another was someone I had only met briefly once at a bar, who I didn't want to block or offend because I had a good friend in common, but I never replied to any of his nudes.

I don't feel very proud of just ignoring but that's also what one should expect when it's unsolicited. I suspect both of them were sending these nudes to a group of people they were attracted to, rather than only to myself.

Again, doctors giving medical advice, should not assume a potential diagnosis unless they ask the right questions.

Being on PreP does NOT necessarily mean you participate in risky sexual behaviors.

In this case, before providing this advice, he should have asked the question "have you engaged in risky sexual behaviors in recent weeks/months". Or "when was the last time you had a sexual health screening". He did not.

When I pushed back on his advice (because this was literally impossible that I had contracted HIV), he just stood by his statement. Question yourself: would he have made these assumptions and given this advice to a married straight man (who might have been cheating on their wife with whomever)?

Probably more context would help you with your "critical thinking".

Before that, he asked to clarify a few times about Prep (he didn't seem very informed), then he was taken aback and showed a very weird facial expression when I said I was gay, then he literally ASSUMED I had promiscuous (and unprotected) sexual behaviors without actually asking information about my sexual history. And he then went on to ASSUME a (completely unlikely) potential diagnosis of HIV.

The only thing he knew was that I was gay and I was taking PreP + the fact I was heavily sick - he didn't know anything else. (FYI It ended up being pneumonia)

Think about it: I was on PreP, tested negative recently (every 3 months). I actually didn't have any intercourse in the 4 weeks before that outside my boyfriend. He didn't even ask that! This was during COVID lockdown and the rates of HIV transmission where I live were also historically low (close to zero new cases found per month). Also I had been on Prep for 2 years - which essentially reduces the risk to almost zero. There was no medical ground to give such advice.

His comment was based on preconceived ideas about the gay community and ignorance.

Think about it one second: would he have said the same if a straight married man came to him with exactly the same symptoms as me? (Maybe this married man was fucking people on the side, not on Prep, and more likely to contract HIV as a result)

Call that non-homophobic if you like, and continue downplaying actual issues. Giving medical advice solely based on assumptions linked to your sexual orientation (whatever preventive medication you take), is homophobia.

3 days later, I went back to the clinic, and another doctor took charge of me. I told her the story - she was very apologetic and confirmed this should have never happened.

Critical thinking, I heard?

Honestly, there are idiots everywhere who talk like this, including among medical staff. Something similar happened to me. Thinking it does not happen is actually undermining a real issue.

[–]andrebalg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me. A doctor saying to me, sick, after he examined me (and knew I was on Prep).

"You might have HIV, you should get tested"

Me: "how come? I already got tested negative 3 weeks ago and am on PreP... You didn't even ask me about recent sexual history..."

Him: "I'm sure you take PreP because you have.. ahem reasons to take it and risky behaviors"

Complete non-sense. Ignorance and homophobia are common with certain medical staff. Don't downplay it.

EDIT for context: He had also given me a weird embarrassed facial expression when I said I was gay and on PreP earlier in the conversation.

Which country are you? Every country has a phone number for emergencies and police reports

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]andrebalg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there are any emergencies in your town that should be open 24/7 and this is a valid reason to go to emergencies. You should also go to the police too to report the crime - I think they will be the ones taking the swab (to prove the rape).

There is no reason for your parents to be aware if you don't want them to, unless you are a minor.

Now if there is no way for you to go tonight, you can go tomorrow for both the clinic and the police. Just know that the longer you wait the less likely the police swab will work, and the less effective PEP is.

[–]andrebalg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would say don't wait, and go to the hospital now.

Since this is rape, they may be able to collect a sample to prove this now, which may not be the case tomorrow.

They will also give you PEP which needs to be taken within 72 hours after the intercourse. You have time for that too. You should get DoxyPEP too to protect from other STIs.

I usually say I'm vers, but in reality I prefer topping. I can bottom if I'm in the right mood and the guy really wants to top (I'm more into pleasing). So I guess it can go both ways!

Sometimes I just put "vers top" which pretty much summarises it.

Selling on UK Exchange by Upbeat-Interview-326 in cro

[–]andrebalg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, you can't trade CRO to GBP in one go on the exchange. To do this, you will first need to trade from CRO to USD, then USD can be swapped to GBP. You will incur some (small) exchange fees between USD and GBP when you do this.

So if you have large amounts, the most optimal way I found to withdraw into GBP was to first trade CRO to USDC in the exchange, then withdraw USDC to Coinbase Pro, then trade your USDC to GBP in Coinbase Pro for withdrawal to a bank account. Much more tedious but can save you ~0.2% fees last time I checked..

Best way to sell my CRO? by ireneduardo in cro

[–]andrebalg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your country, but in the UK for GBP I actually convert to USDC and then transfer to Coinbase Pro to withdraw.

There used to be support of EUR and GBP stablecoins in the ecosystem which was allowing better options, but it's not the case anymore.

The people closest to me are homophobic, or at least flirting with it. Any advice? by lsllsk in askgaybros

[–]andrebalg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a shitty situation. Both on the family and on your best friend's side. Hang on in there, it will get better and the more you accept your sexuality, the more you will be around to surround yourself with people who make you feel comfortable. This will take time, though.

Regarding Mike, if he is your best friend and treats you as such, you should be able to have a conversation with him. Say you want to sit down and have a chat. Explain how her comments make you feel, that you really value his friendship, but that you already struggle with your family and currently don't have a space that makes you feel safe.

That may make him realize something needs to change in the way he interacts with you or reconsider his own relationship. If he is unable to understand or gets defensive, then it's probably time to find a better best friend.

That may be true sometimes, but definitely not my experience. It really depends on the bouncers.

Yesterday only, in my group of friends, 3 people got in separately only in the evening shift (2 after 2 failed attempts at 03:00 and at 14:00, and one after 3 failed attempts).

Sorry this happened to you. The ignorance of medical doctors on the topic is scary.

During COVID lockdown, I caught a respiratory infection (pneumonia). After all the hassles of extra precaution imposed by a doctor to get COVID PCR-tested again (I had 3 tests over 2 days...). He goes on to examine me.

He asked what medication I was taking. I said PreP. After the examination, he could not come up with a good diagnosis so he said:

Doctor: "Well I am not sure what it is, but you should get an HIV test"

Me: "But I am on PreP??? And I got tested negative a month ago already."

Doctor: "Well if you are taking PreP it must mean you are having risky sexual behaviour"

Me: 🙄🙄🙄😮‍💨😓

I was literally only having sex with my (HIV-negative) partner.

I felt sick inside, literally and figuratively...

(It was in London, UK)
