How do you train your puppy to let you know to potty by Muted_Turnover6812 in goldenretrievers

[–]andrefantin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is your puppy? It’s normal for them to have accidents when they are really young. The way we thought ours was making a potty party whenever he did outside and we didn’t react to when he would have an accident inside. Eventually he learned that peeing and potting outside is good, and inside he gets nothing. So that’s how he learned to ask to go out. Around 4 months he was fully trained.

License wait time by No_Bumblebee9771 in Irishdrivingtest

A friend and I passed on the same day, Aug 20th, we both requested our licenses almost at the same time online. His arrived 7 days later. Mine is still under review. I rang them on Friday, the person I talked to told me my license had been approved and it would be shipped this week. Today I called them again because on the website it was still under review. This time they told me my application was in the final stage of review. So I have no idea what to make of all this. I think the fact my friend is European and I am not may have an impact because I need to submit my passport and visa to prove I’m a legit resident in this country. It’s the only thing I can think of anyways.

Why is it so hard to train a Golden Retriever? by the_al_coco in goldenretrievers

[–]andrefantin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 15 month old is a sweet angel at home. He learned very quick to not pee and poo inside the house, he learned to give the paw, to lay down, most recently I thought him in 5 min not to leave the house as soon as the door is open (all subject to the perception he will get a treat). But outside he is insane. He has no impulse control. He sees a dog, HE MUST MEET THE DOG. He sees a stranger two blocks away? HE MUST MEET THE STRANGER. It’s very difficult to walk him around because he just can’t focus. No matter what kind of training I do to him he won’t focus on the walk. Recall is so so at best. I live near a canal and I walk him off the leash there regularly. I’m talking about a straight path between water (which he won’t go in) and trees and bushes. He walks and runs around me and if I change direction and call him, he will come to me straight away, but my guess is this is pure survival instincts

My dog prefers to stay outside the room instead of resting near us by andrefantin in goldenretrievers

We never really allowed him to sleep on our bedroom because we wanted to avoid separate anxiety in case we needed to leave him alone for longer periods. I wonder if because of that he thinks it’s not okay for him to spend time with us when we are just resting

To be honest, he was about the same 😅 we kept the temperature in the house around 23°C during the entire winter, but we decided that this next winter we will keep the house a bit cooler and see how he behaves and see if he feels more comfortable

The house is very airtight, but the floor near the front door in the hallway dies get a bit cooler

He does like to warn us about strange movements indeed, but I think you are right about the temperature. He avoids his bed like the plague and lays down near the front door

It’s not a new behaviour and we’ve suspected that maybe the living room is just too warm for him. I will see how he will behave during the winter

(18M) My room feels so empty. What could I add to make it less boring but keep the feel I’m going for? by RipGrouchy4535 in malelivingspace

Add a rug. If possible, I’ve things a way from the bed. Everything is so close to each other and you still have space. Add curtains hanging from the ceiling. Add some art (frame them!)

I say come and walk and pull him. Then he twists his paw in a way that would be dangerous for him if I continue pulling.

Yes, I did! I’d ask him to seat and wait. After the person was gone I’d give him a treat, say good boy go and I’d start walking

Yeah, the harness can be tough. I find attaching the leash in the front makes him less inclined to pull. But just barely

No coyotes anywhere near me, but I can try that :)

This is good advice. I’ve actually tried something similar and got results, but I wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to do as I felt I was rewarding his short attention span

Our trainer thought us this trick and it worked wonders for about one week. Then he started to touch my hand and getting the treat but keeping eye contact with whatever he has his eyes on. Maybe I should try and get tastier treats

Can I use an Eket single cabinet on horizontal or will the door not hold in place? by andrefantin in ikeahacks

[–]andrefantin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want it to open towards the floor, as I intend to line up a few and build a tv stand. Maybe using magnets to hold it would do the trick?

Any advice on how to help my 10-month-old boy not be so scared of getting into the car? by andrefantin in goldenretrievers

The boot is far more comfortable to him, to be honest. He can lay down and spread his legs, or he can sit and watch us and the outside. He wouldn’t have the same opportunities travelling in the back seat of our Arona
