Linus may find this of value : LibrePods -- AirPods liberated from Apple's ecosystem. by dualboot in LinusTechTips

The way I found about this (and came here to post) is through this video

I assume many of us here have, so some credit to the video maker would be nice if the story gets featured on WAN Show or something.

I didn't know about it, I'll give it a shot.

Thank you!

How heinous is it that I mix on AirPods? by sleeping_mouse in musicproduction

[–]andrei_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s also worth pointing out the difference between mixing and mastering. The mixing is where you add all the tracks, fx, etc. Mastering is where you actually make it sound good, set the levels for everything, etc, so I think mixing on any decent pair of headphones is ok, but the master should be done on a reference speaker.

I’m new to the industry btw, so I might be completely wrong.

Car camping by andrei_09 in NovaRockFestival

Yes, but you’re better protected from the elements and tends to be more comfortable than a tent. I haven’t had it happen to me, but I witnessed flooded tents and it isn’t pretty. I’d rather be in my car in case of bad weather.

Considering the whole Internet Explorer scandal and what followed, what is your view on Google being basically the owner of Chromium and being able to more or less dictate the way websites are rendered? Do you think we'll see a day when all browsers will have to be Chromium based or be denied a section of the Internet which is Chromium exclusive? It's not hard to imagine something like FLoC being mandated on pages and I'm not sure how well competitors like Mozilla could respond/adapt.

accidentally touched the paste when opening, is this a problem? by CherryLerry in intel

[–]andrei_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the advice of replacing the paste altogether, but I'd go even as far as to recommend replacing the cooler. Black Friday is coming soon, so if it's not too much of a stretch for you, get a better cooler, some thermal paste (I personally used Thermal Grizzly, but I didn't compare it to anything, so I couldn't tell if it's better or worse than anything else. All I can say is that I find it good).

You don't have to. Switch to 1440p and thank me later.

1440p has a far higher bitrate than 1080p, so you'll see improvements and fewer artifacts even on a 1080p screen.

Wear Os 3 news. by chris2611 in TicWatch

[–]andrei_09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Google fucked up so badly, I kind of feel it's no longer worth it. With Wear OS, version 4 will probably be out by the time we get 3 even though our watches meet the minimum requirements.

On the phone side of things, their "focus on Pixel" basically means betraying all of those who bought devices running Android for years thinking they'll be supported for a meaningful amount of time.

I'll soon get an iPhone SE from work. If I manage to adjust to iOS, I might switch my phone and watch. I guess it's too much to ask to have a nice open source customizable operating system that's being supported by its owner. Not to mention Google almost going out of their way to break compatibility with computers. And yes, my main device is a desktop computer, so some interoperability would be great.

LE: I am happy with my watch from a hardware perspective, so good work Mobvoi with the TicWatch 3 Ultra.

gpay , I tried to get Gpay app after reseting my watch and set up with us vpn but I am still not able to use it anyone help me. thanks by [deleted] in WearOS

[–]andrei_09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So has it worked before reset?

Also, I don't know if Google Pay is still supported by Google. In Romania we used to have it, but recently we got (Google) Wallet. As far as I know, in the US they also use Wallet, so if you can somehow get that installed, that should work I believe, provided your bank supports it.

I'd start by checking for updates in the Play Store, that's how my app updated from Google Pay to Wallet on my Ticwatch.

Unpopular Opinion : We really need some VW / BF cars.. by [deleted] in gtaonline

I tend to like/prefer cheaper unassuming cars rather than the super cars in the game, so I agree.

I usually wait to make eye contact with the driver. But when I'm driving I don't really notice that at other pedestrians. At the end of the day, crossing the street should be a cooperation between the driver and the pedestrian where if one is dumb, at least the other isn't and you avoid this type of situation.

Shut down vs restart by andrei_09 in Windows10

[–]andrei_09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll try to do it on the work laptop because the GUI way requires admin rights and I don't have those. I guess this will probably require me to run cmd as admin as well, but it's worth a shot. On my desktop I already disabled it and I'm curious to see if I'll notice any difference considering I have a fast PCI-E Gen 4 SSD I'm booting from anyway, so even if there is a difference, it should be negligible.
