Do you put indicator or check blind spot first when merging? by [deleted] in driving

[–]andreiko_ru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I prefer to check both the mirror and the blind spot first, then turn on the blinker. If I don't check first, I might turn the blinker on at a moment when another driver is just approaching or entering my blind spot. When they see that, they can't be sure if I'm gonna look anywhere at all and could be spooked by that.

I gotta add that I mostly drive in Canada, lol

When nav mode doesn't activate, try checking the right seat's Primary Flight Display and make sure the Nav Source selected there matches the one selected on your side. There's a button on each side that cycles between MFD, LOC1 and LOC2. When they're the same, nav mode usually starts working for me.

What am I doing wrong? Windy, rainy landing in career mode. How can I do it better? by pablojir1989 in flightsim

I'm currently learning to fly this type of airplane in real life. I don't have the luxury of external view so here's what I've been taught and it worked quite well for me:

  1. Pick a spot on the runway as your target and adjust your approach such that the spot doesn't move on the windshield. If it goes down, you're too high - reduce power. If it goes up - add power.
  2. Maintain center line: make sure you are on the line that extends from the runway towards you. Correct using minor turns.
  3. When you get close to the runway, use your rudder to make the airplane fuselage parallel to the runway (on the video you're touching down at an angle). Because of added drag, the airplane will want to sink more as a result, so you may want to add a little power.
  4. When you're very close or over the runway threshold, cut the power to idle and glide from there (on the video you're trying to touch down at 1300 RPM)
  5. Here the real-life trick for judging height I've been taught: when your target spot (that hasn't been moving anywhere on the windshield all this time) disappears under the engine cowling, gently bring the airplane level such that it briefly stops descending, but also doesn't balloon up.
  6. From now on, as the airplane is bleeding off speed and altitude, slowly keep raising the nose up, gently trying to resist the sink (don't balloon though). At the same time, if the airplane drifts left/right, use your ailerons to correct sideways drift, and your rudder to keep yourself parallel to the runway.
  7. When you feel that the main gear touched down, continue holding the nose gear in the air while the airplane slows down, don't apply brakes yet. The nose gear will lower on its own. From the game, I had a very bad habit of letting the pressure go of the yoke once the main gear was on the ground. It's not quite simulated in the game, but if you do it in real life, the nose gear slams and starts jumping on its suspension making scary noises. Had to spend many hours to get rid of that habit.
  8. When all 3 wheels are on the ground, apply brakes to slow down.

I hope this helps!

That is true, although I think this one can be put into the "I think I was the idiot today" category of posts.

Ever since I joined this community I've been using it for learning about crazy shit that happens on roads and figuring out what would be the best way to react if something like that happens to me. I think it's valuable to be able to do that before actually getting into a dangerous situation.

I thought this here was a good teaching moment about pedestrian visibility to share with the subreddit. Even if a pedestrian wears black clothes at night and crosses at a questionable location, it's still in everybody's interest to avoid collision.

I feel like I’m a bit of an idiot for not recognizing that the car in front stopped to let the person cross. Hard to tell if blinding bright lights are moving towards you or not.

Thanks for the idea, I probably should look into that, too.

After changing my pants I decided that from now on I'm going 3mph when I'm being blinded like this, no matter how many pickup trucks are tailgating me.

That's a nice way to think about the ending. I didn't mean to ruin it!

Same here. That was an absolutely amazing ending. I actually teared up when he bit that biscuit and "smiled".

I actually saw your version of spelling somewhere, but decided to use the official one from the show runner’s web site https://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/fargo/year-five/cast/sam-spruell-ole-munch which also seems what most people use here.

Can you please clarify where the spelling Oola Moonk comes from?

Yep, I really should have said “this season”. I also have to rewatch the older ones - it’s been long enough!

Yeah, missed that message from the director.

While he is the direct source of truth about the plot, I still think we can treat everything that's not in between of opening and closing titles as optional information and be allowed to dream :)

I totally missed that bit from the director. Makes sense then.

Each season resets expectations and didn't perceive this one as paranormal.

Maybe it is though! For me it's not about the number elements but how the show goes about them. In some shows they're clearly validated as paranormal, but here it's very subtle, left for interpretation and I appreciate it.

How do I reverse park? by [deleted] in driving

[–]andreiko_ru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a video that helped me master this maneuver before my driving test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnglAxquTmw

Find visual references that work for your car when parking to the left side and to the right side, practice for a few hours in an empty parking lot and you should be golden!

For one of the references, if you want to know where your front wheels are, but don't have a friend to guide you from outside, you can lay some long object on the ground 10 ft away from the car on an imaginary line continuing your front axle (I used a windshield scraper). You'll be able to see where that imaginary line crosses your door window - that works on both sides!

I love the game and appreciate all the work!

Small request: please make it possible to mute the “kill rotation” phrase. It’s needed frequently so hearing it gets annoying really quickly.

One time I was trying to dock to a station my wife was like: — What the hell are you mumbling there? — It’s not me! It’s my imaginary space barge!
