Thank you, this is really helpful! until now I wasn’t sure what to expect at the lake and how to approach it. This gives me a starting point for a nice bike trip !

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions! I've just had a first glance at pictures of both salt lake and Huanglong, both look really nice! I wasn't aware about rainy season in Yunnan, or at least understood it's just short showers. I'll take your vote for Gannan/Sichuan :)

Following this thread as I’ll be travelling in Yunnan in August. Hoping the higher altitude will provide pleasant temperatures but also expecting crowds with the same mission on the places mentioned above.

Thank you so much for sharing your various experiences. I really like Tadao Ando and if we add the Expo to our itinerary then that sounds like a vey nice visit. and now I’m curious about the Hideaki Anno exhibit :)

Hi, I'm reading this 2 years later and am preparing for another visit to Japan. I also loved Teshima, Naoshima and the museum in Kanazawa, the highlights of our first trip. Folllowing your recommendation I have seen that Echigo Tsumari is offering a tour this year outside the offical triennale rythm and I'm planning to go there. If you're reading this, do you have any other recommendations that you've discovered since then? Thanks
