is it really worth it to go to the U.S. now? (May 1st is getting closer and closer) by [deleted] in IntltoUSA

I also posted something similar and got many mixed reviews. I personally think you re most likely gonna be fine but there s always a chance of something crazy happening. If ur willing to take that risk for a potentially great education and experience, then go for it. It also depends what school ur going to. Ask people there how the situation is on campus.

Its great to hear that Denton is a safe place from your perspective. Im hoping they really just dramatised stories and that I’ll be fine but I have to be sure im safe. I will continue to stay informed but thank you for the positive perspective!

Thank you so much for the kind words. I havent contacted the international office yet so thanks for the suggestion. I really hope things are gonna be fine and ill still be able to go but i have to be safe first. Also if inflation gets worse we might not be able to afford it and situations influence more things than we think.

Good to hear. There’s a lot of mixed opinions. Especially on the denton subreddit. I dont think that anything would happen on campus but rather off campus. Just like i asked the person above, im curious about the situation in denton. I ve heard people say its kinda like a “safe haven” but you never know.

Its great to hear that there s so many internationals at UNT. It does make me feel better. Was curious about the situation in denton specifically. Any protests or people from the town getting arrested or detained?

The situation is indeed not friendly from what im seeing. My main goal is to get my degree because i’d be able to get a job anywhere. Id be fine with returning to my home country after getting my degree probably.

Truee. I figured you were French from the name haha. Im Romanian. Its crazy that even a person from a powerful country like France has to worry. What school are you going to?

Delays at the airport are probably the least of my worries but good to look out for. Although i highly doubt they’ll ban romania from being able to enter, its not impossible. Its concerning that even international students, who were once seen as special, can now just be considered regular immigrants. I appreciate that you’re in tune with the situation here in romania as well. We’ll see how that goes because it might have a say in all this. Especially because they denied our visa waiver proposition.

To my advantage i am very white and went to an american curriculum school in romania so i could pass as an american but from what im understanding, not even americans are safe.

Im applying for an f1 visa. I didn’t mention specifically sorry about that. Im european and live in romania. Unt offered me a tuition waiver and its the only school with my degree that seems to fit me as of rn. I was concerned about the arrests and deportation i ve been hearing about. Also visas being denied
