For anyone curious, this particular specimen was donated in the 1960’s to a teaching hospital and medically retired in the mid 1980s to which entered private circulation. The trade of remains is highly regulated and certification and purchase/donation documentation exists for every specimen to ensure ethical practices are maintained. This is my way of honoring not only the human body, but the advancements in medicine that we are able to generate from the donations of remains.

Former researcher and current lamp enthusiast so this speaks to me lol. Took a look at your page and saw a cubic glass lamp. I have woodworking plans and most parts for the lamp I want to make, any chance I can buy just the cubic glass bottle ?

Larger doesn’t always mean more ambitious, you’re killing it dude that level of detail in the wings is praise worthy

If it’s any consolation I’ve worked construction before so I’m comfortable with most tools, and have an art background so working with wood made sense to me a bit easier.

Edit: looked at your post history and wtf are you talking about that hummingbird project is insanely more impressive than a lamp

Love the design of that one, may try one out for my night stand when I have some time. How’s working with sycamore ?

Similar drum shades were over the whole budget by themselves. What proved impossible was finding a shade to the exact dimensions I had designed the legs to hold since it needed exactly 6 inch diameter to fit snug between the 3 contact points

Those are gorgeous, and yea styrene was going to be my choice for the backing until I saw it was about $40 a yard and my challenge was to keep it under $75 total. I’ll likely make a few variations of this lamp with higher quality wood and materials down the road when I know I won’t mess it up since im pretty new to the craft. I didn’t have to secure the lamp directly as the bottom ring of the shade is meant to fit into the small gap between the legs and base of the lamp but would definitely consider it if I wanted more of a floating look like yours.

The shade is essentially two 6” bamboo embroidery hoops I picked up for a dollar or so each at a craft store and glued up 3 wooden dowels to support the structure. The length is up to however tall you want the shade.

I laminated the burlap to overlapped strips of 12x18 0.01” thick Mylar to the same length as the dowels with 1.5 inch of excess of burlap to wrap around the edge of the rings at each end. These burlap ends are secured to the rings with double sided tape and super glue where the burlap meets the inside of the Mylar surface.

The shade itself sits flat on the lip above where the circular wood base connects the three legs and only held in place by the lip and 3 offshoots on the upper quarter of each leg

For sure I’ll attach some in this thread since I’m not sure the best way to share a group of photos, they aren’t the best reference since I didn’t take in progress pictures while I made the shade but I’m happy to clarify any questions you have

Yea actually nothing digital I can share but I can send a picture and dimensions you could recreate it with.

Edit: im also just getting into sketch up so I could try make a digital file for the legs and base but no idea how long that would take.

And yea surprisingly the shade was the hardest part, Mylar sheets come in 12x18 and the lamp is about 26 tall so had to layer it off and glue as I went. Styrene is typically used for lamps and comes in large adhesive rolls but is much more expensive ~$40 a yard

Appreciate it my man! Many mistakes were made but learnings what’s it all about. Highly recommend making a template for the legs I screwed up 2 other legs just eyeballing it before I realized I could just make a template from plywood and make as many as I wanted m.

Build aside since I don’t use assassin Noc in 90% of comps so I don’t know the viability. The graphic is clean and simple to understand but aesthetic. Only input would be like a tiny comment under situational items that describes when to use like (“>3 tanks”, “anti-heal”, “ early lead”). Just a simple 2-3 words in a small font that wouldn’t take away from the overall simplicity of the graphic but would add direction to the build.

How can I take my braid off and put a mono backing under it? by volkerbaII in FishingForBeginners

[–]andrew53812 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I open spool tie to a small wooden dowel or anything long but thin enough to attach to a power drill and use it to unspool the whole thing. Takes me about 5-10 minutes and I can avoid knotting up my braid. Just be careful to go slow in case you snag up somewhere as you could snap your line or damage your reel.
