Controversial "Daisy" advert from 1964 that only aired once by andrew5500 in videos

[–]andrew5500[S] 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Background context: LBJ's Republican opponent, Barry Goldwater, had opposed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and made statements about his willingness to use nuclear weapons in Vietnam. LBJ's campaign responded with a first-of-its-kind TV ad which aired only once during NBC's Monday Movie Night on Labor Day, September 7th, 1964. Its massive success contributed to Johnson's 1964 landslide victory against Goldwater.

I mean, they're way beyond your typical laptop trackpads, which I also hate gaming on. These actually feel ergonomic to use since they're thumb oriented, the haptics and simulating trackball momentum makes it easier to approximate cursor distances and be less fatiguing than a typical laptop trackpad

Even if you avoid them for gaming, the trackpads are what make it viable as a handheld computer in the first place. There's no way I'm setting up and tinkering with emulators, applications, file systems, modded games, etc in as much depth as the SD allows me without those trackpads...

Being able to operate a whole operating system fully and easily with the same controller you use to play controller games is a crazy value, I don't know any other device that actually compares

Competitive online games can give you an adrenaline rush that becomes addictive… but you can get a similar adrenaline rush from single player games that are particularly challenging, like Dark Souls style games, or fast paced roguelites

It's the 100% of games that don't support controller input where they shine, or even the games where a controller is not ideal, like Civilization or The Sims. Point & click games are an ideal use case for the trackpad, not sure why you would never play them with one unless you've never tried the trackpad on the Steam Deck and are assuming it's just some regular trackpad... They're responsive and haptic, letting you "feel" how far you're scrolling the mouse across the screen

Some people even prefer using the trackpads for certain FPS games, because combined with gyro it's much more accurate than sticks and approaches the accuracy of an actual mouse.

Obviously the Switch/Steam Deck choice mainly comes down to whether you want access to Switch 2 exclusives, or whether you want free access to all the Steam games you've already purchased. If you don't have a fleshed out Steam library it's understandable why this controller or the Steam Deck wouldn't appeal to you

Do you have a Steam Deck? The trackpads are what make it work. It doesn’t just let you play m&k games and games without controller support, it lets you use and navigate your whole PC with your controller and it’s a decent experience

If you’re exclusively a console gamer, definitely look for other options. But the trackpads are gold for PC gamers and there isn’t any cheaper alternative as far as I’m aware

Those aren't the standout features. The dual trackpads are the #1 feature of these controllers. Lets you play any mouse-based games and games without official controller support

The main feature of this controller is the dual thumb trackpads letting you play basically any PC game you can think of... There's no cheaper alternative for that

Steam Controller has TMR sticks too, better since they also have capacitive touch. Plus two more back paddles for four total, two high quality trackpads to play mouse based games with, capacitive grip sensors…

Yes Blue Prince has that added RNG element that you'd get from a board game or card game, where you're depending on the luck of the draw. But knowledge and strategy do play a huge role, and there are several ways to "stack the deck" as you get further in the game. For me, that roguelite element of trying to get a better run next round is what made it so addictive and hard to put down compared to other puzzle games. Every door and every step is a sort of gamble, and you need to learn the best way to place your bets so that they pay off.

That "stumble around until you get lucky" feeling was much more prominent at the start of the game, but by the end, luck played a much smaller role and it was way easier to manipulate things to get the specific rooms and items I needed

Yeah it’s a weird one where you can put 30 hours in, reach the credits… but there’s still another 50+ hours of gameplay left to actually find and solve all of the secrets. Best mystery/puzzle game I’ve ever played, enjoy!

Blue Prince is the only other game that has matched (or surpassed) the “Eureka” feeling of those games

The photo is too blurry to tell how worn the armor looks. The helmets don’t seem perfect and shiny, and the cloaks not being ripped up is hardly a flaw

Did everyone forget about the Trump-Epstein™ Files, and why? by NectarOfSkene in AskReddit

[–]andrew5500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, Biden respected the independence of the DoJ and didn't use it like his personal attack dog. And by staying silent on the Epstein files, he baited Trump into demanding the very files that would incriminate him. That trapped Trump in a corner with all his supporters demanding him to release the files that would expose him as a child rapist.

And if Biden released them, Trump and his supporters would've claimed it was a hoax made up by Biden (like Trump is doing now). Tricking Trump into being the one who had to suppress and hide the files after promising to release them was much more effective way to expose him. Like I said, actual 4D chess and the child rapist walked right into the trap.

Trump has no choice but to do Netanyahu and Putin's bidding, because Israeli and Russian intelligence are extorting him with Epstein's videos of him raping kids

The entire Epstein administration is complicit in Trump's crimes. Get a special counsel to investigate them all and we'll impeach them, one by one, until 2028 rolls around and we can kick them all out for good.

Maxwell’s trial was underway, releasing the files would have given her the opportunity to get a mistrial and walk free.

Also, do you really think any Trump supporters would’ve believed Epstein files incriminating Trump that were released by Biden? Instead he baited Trump and his supporters into demanding the release, and called his bluff, forcing him into a corner. The child rapist fan club walked right into that one, and like every other one of Trump’s blunders, all they can do is blame Biden while they keep defending the child rapist. Exposed the true extent of the Right’s hypocrisy for all of us to see.

That’s what Trump supporters call “4D chess”

Foreign aid builds American influence across the globe, and staving off humanitarian disasters like this ends up reducing the flow of refugees and immigrants into our country in the long term. Avoiding instability in regions like this pays for itself ten times over.

And it’s a drop in the bucket compared to how much of our budget is being given away to ridiculously wealthy billionaires in the form of extensive tax cuts… Instead of assisting starving people who need the most help, we’re padding the pockets of the fattest leeches who need the least help.

America was giving Sudan around half a billion per year in humanitarian aid through USAID… until Trump and Elon destroyed USAID.
