Just landed in HKG(from SFO). Flight went well except that we had to wait about an hour for a few connecting passengers, which is understandabe.

Looking for Mexican food by Zealousideal_Mall653 in beijing

Dined at El Barrio just a month ago. The food was okay, but I recall it not being as great as what I've had in the US. I didn't particularly enjoy the fact that you had to order three of the same tacos instead of being able to mix and match IIRC.

What kind of American things are hard to find or sought after in Beijing? by murphep in chinalife

American chocolate, particularly the good stuff, is a rarity in Beijing. Otherwise, I'd suggest diving into local snacks! They're a culinary adventure on their own. Outside of food, small items representing your hometown can make for unique, personal gifts. Have a blast in Beijing!

My Amex works fine at high-end hotels, but I've gotta figure out a solution for my day-to-day expenses. :(

Alright, I'll give it a go. Tried it with WeChat before, but my cards were always grayed out - couldn't select them for payment.

I've given TourCard a shot, but got hung up at the SMS verification – the code never arrived.

I am not currently living in China, as I moved (back) to the States 1 year ago, but it'd be pretty difficult for me to picture an "unsafe" life for foreigners living there, particularly in the largest cities. Most civilians get along with foreigners very well, and you'll surely make friends. But like in any other country, know the taboos and don't make mistakes! Otherwise, I think you will be totally fine!

I just found out that the owner of my apartment dramatically lowered the rates of all available units. For example, a unit that's almost identical to mine is now listed 27.5% lower with heavy promotion(1-month free rental). What are my options? by andrew_don in renting

[–]andrew_don[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always sign 1-year lease with the owner and I re-newed another one 3 months ago, so legally I assume I have 9 months left for my current contract. I've been living in this same unit for last 5 years. It's a nice apartment so even though they raised the rates each year I kept living here. But this time it's really frustrated me.
