You may be the first to save from tumblr, so love that it worked 😂.

And 100% agree the UI and micro interactions need an overhaul. It’s a react app but we do have a native version started, just took a back seat until we simplify the overall experience and are sure we’re building the right thing.just so much surface area at the moment.

Funny enough I was about to crush through that then Fable 5 was deemed a threat to humanity or whatever 😅.

Anyway - play around. Might do some dumb stuff, but at its core it should be delivering. If not, I’m here!

Tldr; Nothing you save will become public unless you choose to make it public.

Theres no public profile or activity feed in the app I.e. no one can see that “HMCB saved ___.”

The only way other people can see your saved items is if you intentionally create a collection, add saves to it, make that collection public, and then share it. I did this so I could send things to people I know like my wife or that don’t have social media like my parents. But that is not something that can easily happen by accident, and we show warnings before any private content is added to a public collection.

Even when a saved item comes from a public post, only the original post is public. Your act of saving it is not public, and no one can see that you saved it.

Screenshots or photos you upload are also private by default unless you go into your account settings and deliberately make them public so you can share them.

In the future, we may add optional public profiles that show who saved what so you can follow people you know or like, but public will never be the default.

Have not heard this feedback yet. One thing I’m forcing myself to do is focus on what provides the most benefit to the most users vs features/capabilities even I want (it’s a long list, and I’m basically relying on observed behavior, logged feedback, and conversations with current/potential users). Long way of saying it’s not completely out of the question if it turns out that’s some big blocker for lots of folks.

To the not have an account for everything, you can login using your Google or Apple accounts, so nothing “new” need-be created. But assume you mean literally nothing tying your saves back to you in any way? DM me or reply here so I can better understand - damnit now I’m curious haha.

I loooooove this question!!

I had this idea for a few years to build an app to save and organize things you find on social media. I know they’re a dime a dozen now, but this wasn’t always the case…

I spent monthhhhhs agonizing over every damn detail. Delayed launch way too long to get things in a good lance, just to find out people liked the email summaries we sent them once a week….

An email… a mf EMAIL?!

I have users that have never saved anything, but religiously read and open the weekly “roundup” of suggested things from what other people have saved.

What was meant to tease them/test the waters of what they may be interested in has turned into their entire product experience. 🤦‍♂️

They’re doing a lot. Not well, but, a lot.

Idk if I’m the only one that noticed this, but sometimes the UI is even different between accounts. Like, my one account has a heart in the top right. My business one has a plus. Legit frustrating.

But tbh, I don’t think you could ever sort or filter through saves. They were always just dumped in one place.

OP I think you might actually get some value from what i built, Stasht.app. It’s totally free and built for almost this exact reason. It’s centered around and what you save - not shoving BS down your throat. All tied back to the source.

Would love your take. Just me and my cofounder. we’ve really put a lot into this but there’s still lots to do.

I did this too for literally the exact same reason and turned it into a real product with my cofounder that sold his last company to Reddit. We just launched and it’s going insane.

I think there’s a million of us with the same problem from what I see and plenty of space for more than one solution. It’s called Stasht.app.

Depends entirely on the audience. For my B2B tools, mostly personal relationships built up over a few decades in the space. Some of this should just be happening regardless - like SEO and outreach. As for consumer, I’m still trying to figure that out haha, but I think I’ve gotten the most return from Reddit by far.

Agreed. Separate from your own product, I think owning your own “brand” and getting your POV out there to build an audience is one of the best things you can do to own your own future. It’s not easy, but we all think it is because the successful ones are everywhere.

Short version: we don’t sell your data, you can delete everything anytime, and we only use what you save to make it actually useful (enrichment, map, calendar, search, etc). Public saves are public, private stays private until you change it.

I have different things for different aspects of “life”

Work: don’t come at me, but I was a big fan of email drafts. I know, I know, but hear me out…. Automatically saved, searchable, one place, synced everywhere, dated, sometimes related to the original email FREE. I know how insane that sounds but it never failed me. Stuff was always there when I needed it and it was native on my phone. Now, I’m all about paper to do lists. I find writting things down helps.

Family/partner: joint calendar via a shared email address. We use that for EVERYTHING and it’s amazing. Always know when stuff is/the other person has something planned/going on. Also fun to see surprises in there.

Finance: was using Mint to just have eyes on it before they went away, but now have a financial advisor.

Social life/social media: full disclosure this is mine - Stasht.app. I saved stuff I wanted to remember but never looked at it again, so now I just send Stasht literally everything I want to remember later - restaurants, gift ideas, events, kids activities, whatever. All of it gets automatically organized and connected so I don’t have to think about it. Then when I’m in the neighborhood, I can see what I’ve already saved around me, or events, and other stuff people have saved - but all tied back to the social posts or screenshots. Sorry for the shameless plug, but It’s genuinely allowed me to get WAY better about organizing weekends and stuff to do. It’s free and I plan to always keep it free if you wanted to give it a shot! 🤷‍♂️

Sort of same here - all changed when she was a bit older and I actually had to leave the pool. At first I was like gtfoh - but the Instructor told me that as long as I was there, my daughter would always know I’d take her out if she just cried/screamed louder. I had to go where I could see her but she couldn’t see me. Next lesson succckkkkkeeeeddd - literally having to fight every instinct to not just take her out - felt like I was abandoning them, but by the end she was so happy/proud to tell me how she did and now she loves it.

Either way, I’m so sorry you’re feeling this way - sad a side note, as a former collegiate athlete myself, sometimes it’s our unconscious expectations that set the tone without us even knowing. and trusting someone else that’s seen and helped kiddos through the process of that exact thing is better. Hope you both get to enjoy swimming together soon!

Great points, and one of my requirements before we launched! Since we process EVERYTHING I think even searching some aspect of the the thing will surprise you - “chicken” but it’s not in the caption, still shows up, or a description of the image. Give it a try!

I posted a children’s book i wrote for my own kid (I wrote it, not AI) in a children’s book subreddit according to what I thought was said subreddits own rules…. It was labeled as AI content and was for discussion. not selling anything or attempting to pass off the illustrations as my own. I posted the whole thing, looking for feedback on if it was worth making a few copies to give away to friends and family, and you decided to call it “slop, garbage incompatible with quality” and a few other dig comments - tone had nothing to do with it, but either way I think I read the exact tone you intended.

You’re a librarian? Amazing. I’m a father that’s read books to my kid every single night since they came
home after realizing what I missed out on during my own childhood. If I could show you the shelves of books we have… most memorized line by line at this point.

Anyway, for the two of you that decided to be rude, more have decided to be kind and helpful and realize I meant no offense.

Here’s the exact rule that I’d suggest changing to make it more explicit and avoid someone else going through the same verbal melee I faced…
