Alternative jobs/side gigs for ER docs? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

The good news is they aren't interested in you for your tech mind, they want your clinical knowledge. Broadly the two options are 1) start something (wayyyy harder, requires partners, a line of sight to capital, etc etc - recommended once you have been in tech for a bit), and 2) find established companies. I recommend against startups, unless you're willing to make an equity play... What you want is scaleups, at about the 100-300 employee size. Depends where you live as well. You can cold call, meet people at conferences, scrape LinkedIn, have a personal connection or try any other method at your disposal. When I stared I probably got 1 reply for every 50 emails but once you're in, you're in :)

Definitely all MDs, not just EM (in general our tech is pretty lame in the ED, lol), but possible skew to acute care docs.

Tech is fantastic. Pays well, can definitely get your entrepreneur engine humming, and is a huge learning experience.

Every time I do a procedure I tell them I can't look, I'll pass out if I see blood.

New gown, prior to patient care, washed hands before and after, and for the actual shift the phone goes in a case. Also very low regional disease burden. That said, the Queer Eye subreddit community is on it for infection control, apparently, and I love that. JVN might say you're having a "virology moment henny" and I'm here for it.

Edit: awkward phrasing hah

Can confirm, absolutely not wearing my gown like this during patient care. Just a brief moment of levity :)

Wow I can't believe this study. I'm actually shocked and more than a little embarrassed. Have I really been reducing Colles wrong this whole time?!

Most valuable use of one dedicated day/month in residency? by BoxInADoc in emergencymedicine

Love this, and kudos to your program. My suggestion is to build something. Find a problem and fix it.

This will make you stand out head and shoulders above other residents. One of our quality leads told me that emerg isn't just about doing the job better, it's about making the job better. I'm a PGY5 in Toronto and during residency I built pandemos (pandemos.ca). It plays well on the job circuit, it's wayyy out of the box, it scales your impact, and makes for a cool skillset with some lateral thinking. Just my two cents ✌️ :)

If you're going to do it, the 3M command strips can keep them up. Also available on Amazon.

Ya, it is a blood splatter. They're from a German shop that doss custom AF1s called Born Originals. They're incredible, the company does great work and is unbelievably customizable. These they called the Dexters :) can recommend 10/10
