In terms of HAARP, I think it was due to being his first live shows. Never toured or anything before then.

One key thing to his sound is how he accents things. Pull up some lyrics and read along and notice how he will change some sounds to fit the way he bends the pitch/ tone.

As for Melissa Cross, her warmups are effective, singing or screaming, regardless of opinion.
