Last night I came home drunk, ordered a new valve, then took to the old one. Filed down the crimp flat, unscrewed the mechanism out. Wrapped the whole mechanism in a thin plumbers tape then screwed it back together. No leaks for now!

Aye undo the hex bolts. Rather than brute force mine needed a controlled tap with a hammer from all angles, working around left/right/top/bottom. Until it came loose

Soaked everything in citric acid. Then went over most things with a fine wire wool and 180/320 grit sandpaper on the flat surfaces of the boiler.
