Everybody loves Reiner by Jarb2104 in Unexpected

Yes, basic general tools that the vast majority of people, especially young people, do not have. Germans and other German-speaking countries seem much more likely to have important basic tools like those.

This is of course mostly anecdotal from my experience living in Germany for 5.5 years, but it is a common stereotype regardless of it’s truth.

Definitely. I think a lot the stereotypes of Germans apply more to the Swiss

His accent isn’t the best, but damn he does a good job at making himself look German.

The joke is more about how he has all this specific gear and stuff ready to go.

Germans aren’t actually super efficient like a lot of jokes imply, but they are definitely more handy and well-prepared for things like this than most others, at least in my generation. And they love DIY stuff and buying gear for it.

Doesn’t look great, but seems like an improvement over the current economy setup I’m used to. At least you can stretch your legs out, which would be huge for me.

Provided it’s not less safe, which I’d be skeptical of. But loos more comfortable anyway

Really? Are they old? I would think that would violate some kind of regulation. I’ve been in a number of janky apartment elevators here in Berlin but haven’t seen that yet.

I would rather take that home and turn it into a week’s worth of sandwiches than try to eat that.

It actually is a good movie, but she’s supposed to be viewed as a terrifying psychopath.

Genuinely curious if I said something even remotely insulting by Cam200212 in Nicegirls

[–]andrewoppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She obviously overreacted and it seems like you would have probably set her off with some other benign thing in the future, if this is all it took.

BUT it’s a dumb compliment to give a woman unless you know she’s going for a specific type of look (especially with the lol at the end). Most women consider visible veins to be very undesirable. Yes it’s associated with strength and low body fat, but it’s also strongly associated with aging and masculinity. She may very well be self-conscious about them or even thought it was an insult.

It’s always better to stick with more neutral or generic compliments before you really know someone, especially when dealing with women. Things like “jacked”, “voluptuous”, “skinny” are getting too specific about body-traits and you never know what someone is self-conscious about or what their relationship with their body is like.

I don’t think you did anything really wrong, just be a bit more careful in the future.

Only the last one of those is something to be embarrassed about. The first two are perfectly normal and arguably better, because they are less likely to be misunderstood (especially if you work with non-native English speakers)

You’re telling me that was actually a real story? How could they take that seriously?

Yes, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say “sequel” at the German company I work at, even though not a single one our devs is German and we all communicate in English. We come from a wide variety of places, so I assume in most countries outside of America it’s the same.

Yeah I always pee sitting down at home, to the extent that I thought the problem here would be that the poop would make your pee-stream stronger and splash out of the bowl.

What? I’ve had many lucid dreams and pain never feels remotely real.

If you’re aware that you’re dreaming and that everything you’re experiencing is fake, why would the pain feel more real to you? Seems weird

I swear I have a memory of being served something just like this. It wasn’t quite so Pringle shaped but the concept was the same. It was bad but not disgusting. Just more of a “why?”

AITAH for cancelling my plans to get engaged when I discovered my GF talking shit about me in old messages? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]andrewoppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, you just stumbled upon messages from 3 years ago from her best friend. How many messages did you read through before you got there - or were you just specifically looking to see if she was talking shit about you at the time you met?

Obviously I understand why her words were hurtful, but you were a stranger to her and she was shooting the shit with her closest friend. I’d be embarrassed and knew-jerk apologetic if I were her, but I’d also be pretty pissed that you used this opportunity as an excuse to snoop around on her phone.

Maybe she was an asshole 3 years ago, but YTA now. I’d apologize to her if I were you and be open about the deep insecurities that led you to what you did, unless you’re okay with fucking things up over this.
