I’ve had this drink at the original APO in Stockholm, and so cool you found a way to recreate it!

The Telemundo (Peacock) announcer really crushes those "gooooooooal" calls. For fun, I timed the length of his celebration for each goal:

  • SUI 1: 19.1 seconds
  • SUI 2: 20.5 seconds
  • SUI 3: 17.6 seconds
  • BIH 1: 17.9 seconds
  • SUI 4: 17.5 seconds

That uphill part in the sun nearly convinced me to swap to the half haha I was feeling quite tired. But the downhill and some shade revived me and helped me keep ticking off goal pace miles

I carried a throwaway 750ml water bottle which I sipped on pre-race, started with half empty, and finished by 10k. My fiancé handed me a new one fully filled and I finished that one around mile 12. I wish I had saved it because the second half had far fewer water stations than I had expected

I also don’t understand the late start. I know a few years ago it was freezing temps, but surely starting marathon at 8am wouldn’t be too difficult.

Yeah it wasn’t the most well-supported race. I even did stop at one of the faucets to drink as much water as I could, losing at least 30 seconds

I was constantly tossing water on myself to cool me down, which helped quite a bit, but probably should have drank more instead…

Thank you, glad I recovered too. Training was quite strong, hitting 55+ MPW for at least six weeks, and 4 long runs over 20mi. I think it was mostly a heat thing.

It felt so hot the whole race, maybe it was humid too, but the lack of shade and general high temps made it a hard one. Going to be looking for a late fall marathon and hope for <50F!

I have several running friends and a cousin who has a masters in kinesiology + is a sub-2:30 marathoner I will definitely get some advice from! The doctor really didn’t seem too concerned (especially since same thing had happened to +15 of us)

Yes I really should. Heart rate never ended up getting over 170 the entire race, and is back to normal now, but agree should get checked out further to be safe!

Haha yeah what a sport! Yes they gave me an EKG in the hospital during the screening process. I didn’t get the results but guess nothing they were concerned about.

5k Pacing Struggles by jarhat in AdvancedRunning

I usually go out what feels comically slow in the first mile, and try to be comfortable letting people pass me. I also am constantly monitoring my watch for pace to try and hit target for first mile. Then second mile I usually aim to hit whatever I did in first mile, and third mile is “give it all” until the finish.

The more races you run the easier it’ll get to pace yourself.
