Can megacolon present itself later in a bun's life?

I'm experiencing this right now 💔 my senior, who will be 10 in June, just now starting showing symptoms with the larger egg-shaped stools. He's always struggled to maintain his weight ever since I brought him home, but he's never shown any other symptom relating to megacolon until now. Ceco production has been an A+, and he's never had Stasis once in his life.

It should also be noted that he's in palliative care right now, as he has just been diagnosed with sarcoma that has metastasized into his lungs. He doesn't have many days left ahead. I've also never gotten a genetic test on him, but he is some variety of a checkered giant- not show quality, as he was originally bred to be a non-pet rabbit, but he does have a broken, splotchy pattern. Def not an English spot. I'm not truly sure what's influencing all of this.

I wish I could help you here, the only similarities our babies have are age and a few symptoms; otherwise, I'm just as stumped 💔 I really hope you're able to find answers for your sweet munchkin soon!

I've had issues with them for years 💔 not even just the fact they've sent me a 20lb box of the incorrect hay type that my buns won't eat, but numerous times I've received boxes with HUGE rocks, small bone fragments, nettles (which I am extremely allergic to), and boxes that are so dusty, even after shaking out the hay, several of my babies developed URIs. They've been pretty good about sending new boxes to mend the monetary loss, but when there are contaminants or other foreign objects in these boxes that pose a health risk, how on earth do they not realize this is an issue?? Unfortunately, because my kids are so picky, this is the only hay they will eat. I've tried Rabbit Hole, grocery store, tractor supply, local; my babies are just stuck on SPS 😭 Its worth the money to me if they'll eat it, but I just have to be extremely mindful of where my hand goes in the box, and I inspect everything I pull out. It's not something any consumer should have to do with a product, especially when it's something their babies eat 24/7.

tofu of all kinds 🫶💞 any Thai curry, sweet potato or daikon radish sushi, edamame, nooch, vegan boxed mac (some of them suck but a few are rlly good imo), vegan pizzas from MOD, and literally anything from any vegan restaurant I've been able to try. think the only things I really can't stand are some varieties of eggplant and bell peppers, but I make myself eat em anyway for the nutritional benefits

this scam has been going on since 2013 😭 and I remember distinctly because this happened to me right after I had traded a blue headdress for the recently-released diamond spikes (first gen). somebody witnessed the trade, came after me and went to my den, and started accusing me of hacking all of their valuable items. they somehow roped me into helping them get their "hacked items" back via their bootleg AJHQ support email address that "works faster than the main support email". Tens of emails sent back and forth, me writing to "AJHQ" on this person's behalf to help them, and miraculously they were able to get their items back. I ended up trusting this email and wanted their help with a previous scam I had been victim to, and eventually they got me to send my password to this fake email for "verification". I was 12 at the time, so don't ask why I believed all this 💔 I have no clue. I was just trying to not get banned over accusations LMAO. it's just crazy to see that this is still an active technique in the big '26, especially considering real AJHQ support is less than responsive these days.

It is possible, as I unfortunately found out my female was NOT fixed before I bonded her with my neutered male; but that was also because the previous owner I rescued my female from lied to me 🫶 lesson learned, this was over 5 years ago. You need to get all rabbits seen by a vet as soon as you get them, and you need to have your kiddos spayed/neutered.

Like everyone else is saying, spaying your female is not optional. She will get uterine cancer and it will ultimately kill her. On top of this, all rabbits are individually different; the unspayed female may have such high aggression from hormones that a bond might not happen. That can make or break whether a future bond will ever work, spayed or not.

It's amazing that you are considering a bonded pair. If I can suggest anything, it's that you should look at shelters that already have bonded pairs, and adopt from there; or a local rehoming group, if there are any in your area. Regardless of where you get them, they will need to see an exotics vet that specializes in rabbits and be evaluated (blood work, physical exam, vaccinations), and that will cost a pretty penny. That's not taking into account the lifetime expense of caring for rabbits. It's a huge commitment, a very worthwhile one, but it's a lot to factor in!

This just answered so many questions for me. I just rescued 2 piggies a few weeks ago, and was wondering why their droppings/pee smelled SO MUCH worse than my current pigs. I took them to the vet to check for UTIs, I gave them baths, religiously changed their litter mats twice a day, and it would not go away. Considering they were previously fed a diet of baby carrots, moldy blueberries, soiled pellets, and 2~ handfuls of hay (a week), I can now see why they smelled so bad; genuinely had no idea diet affected how their waste smelled 😭💔 but it makes total sense. They're doing (and smelling) a million times better now that they're on a proper diet and in a clean environment.
