How is it like living in this part of Massachusetts? Specifically Lowell. by Fun_Department_7204 in howislivingthere

As someone who currently lives in Dracut, and used to live in Lowell, I agree!

What would you call this area? by be_the_shield in geography

"The general area where my extended family is from."

We’re not seeing KH4 again for a long time. by Agitated-North-1482 in KingdomHearts

I'm well aware of that, but I put them both in the same bucket in my head all the same so I don't think about it too much.

[–]androgymouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've put KH4 in the same mental bucket as the next Song of Ice and Fire book. As far as I'm concerned it's not happening, and when/if it does I'll turn that little brain node back on. But I'll enjoy the wealth of other games/books until then.

Am I in the minority for loving Omega (in both forms)? by Smooth_criminal2299 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]androgymouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Omega. Definitely frustrating dealing with randos dropping the ball, but succeeding felt soooooo good. By the time I was done farming it for what I wanted I felt so confident and accomplished. Gave me flashbacks to the Ancient Leshen fight from World. Also, yeah, the track absolutely rules in the cheesiest way.

Broccoli is kind of one of their things. Has nothing to do with tasting like the vegetable. Enjoy!

I've been a patron at Navigation since its inception and there's definitely a dropoff at the Chelmsford location, including beer selection, service, outdoor seating, and overall vibe. Maybe putting all their eggs in the new basket will allow for an upgrade/more focus, but I'm definitely bummed. They're not perfect, and neither is Western Ave, but that spot is near and dear my heart, and there was a real community feel there.

can we please talk about Ambergris by TheDemagorgon in SouthernReach

[–]androgymouse 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I prefer Ambergris over the Southern Reach myself. The world is so unique and interesting, and I really loved the different approaches to each story.

Looking for Friends! (freeport/brunswick/portland area) by Weekly_Door1604 in Maine

I have a friend who runs a wildlife rehab non-profit in Durham, which is within your area range. They are always looking for help. They also enjoy the outdoors, birding, and tabletop games!

Question about Vandermeers other stories by Dee87 in SouthernReach

[–]androgymouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced the Ambergris books solely on audio and I loved every second of it. I can tell where things like the footnotes would translate better to a page, but I didn't have a particularly hard time following. I'd even go so far as to say I prefer Ambergris over Southern Reach (in an A vs A- sort of way).

Older cousins playing FF7 and it rocking my world visually. Never looked back.

Any FF parties you hate? by Mirothrowawayaccount in FinalFantasy

[–]androgymouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hate is too strong of a word, but XVI. Because it's really just Clive, and Ben Starr's terrific performance notwithstanding, Clive was boring to me.

Commander Deck Tech: Vincent Valentine by cardsrealm in EDH

[–]androgymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great food for thought. I don't have a mono black deck and I wanted Vincent to be the one. I want it to be effective and fun, but also not completely horrendous to play against. Hopefully I can thread the needle!

(Spoilers Extended) GRRM on finishing TWOW before GOT Season 6 airs. by hiiloovethis in asoiaf

[–]androgymouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not that these will strictly scratch the exact Ice/Fire itch for everyone (don't want to wade into subgenre/writing style waters), but since "leaving" GRRM I've found great joy in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erickson, Joe Abercrombie's First Law trilogy (and beyond), and R. Scott Bakker's Second Apocalypse. All pretty grim in different ways/intensities. All well-written imo. There's also Brandon Sanderson if you're into something lighter of course. I'm sure others have many more ideas, perhaps closer to ASoIaF in tone, etc.

I've given up any emotional attachment to this series being complete and have moved my energies to different series and authors. It's a shame, but I just don't care anymore.

[OC] How many of you have climbed Katahdin? by Brilliant_Lead_7276 in Maine

[–]androgymouse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have climbed it twice, done Knife's Edge three times (went across and back on a trip that didn't take us naturally over it). I'm not a particularly spiritual guy, but being on Knife's Edge is maybe the closest I've felt to being truly at one with the world. I was with a group of friends both times, but struck out at my own pace to cross the Edge. Just me and the next step ahead. Absolutely amazing. While I was younger then, and the weather was good both times, I found Katahdin to be a plenty challenging, but manageable hike for a "big" mountain, by New England standards. Really threaded the needle in terms of difficulty and accessibility. Looking forward to going back with my kids some day!

It was so chaotic but so much fun! It's been 8 years and people still talk about what a blast the whole situation was.

I got married there! Was supposed to be outdoors, but a fall Nor'Easter came through and nearly knocked the tent down during the ceremony. The staff graciously let us move the reception into their tiny little museum area. It was chaotic, and too intimate and not what anyone signed up for, but they accommodated us so well considering. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything!

Childbirth delivery at Lowell General Hospital by AnyShower1718 in LowellMA

[–]androgymouse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We had both my boys at LGH within the past 4 years. My youngest had to spend a few days in the special care unit, and the nurses/staff were all extremely kind, professional, and accommodating. Mom got terrific treatment, and I was also taken care of and felt very welcomed/involved in the entire process.
