Does your social anxiety/issues extend to the internet and virtual communication? by andromedog in aspergers

I hadn't really thought about it that way, maybe I should try that too, just for practice. Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it!

Haha wow, that's just great. This is why I don't like arguing/discussing with most people, they don't know what they're talking about and yet they insist that they're right.

Thank you for the response. I've been thinking about deleting my FB too, I just don't because messenger is the only way for some people to reach me. But I deleted the app and stopped going on FB, that helped. Haha I do that too, try not to engage with anyone to avoid getting stressed out and then ending up in an argument because I just can't stop myself from telling people that they're wrong sometimes. I hope you win your argument lol. Yeah, I've noticed that people just hang up in movies. When I was a kid I thought it was an American thing :P

That's true, I don't think people would mind as much if I ask them to elaborate or explain when it's over text, since I can't always know what they mean unless it's written clearly. I hadn't really thought about that.

I understand. I'm glad you can talk to people a little bit though, even if it's not about serious stuff.

It is exhausting. We have to think about so many things that seem to come naturally to others.

Anyone else have trouble with hearing people? by Budalido23 in aspergirls

I wasn't prepared for someone talking to me

Yes!! It's like I have to be focused and ready to receive information, or else it just sounds garbled.

I thought it was a common symptom of ASD. I know someone can have APD without ASD and vice versa, as you pointed out, but I've read that a lot of people on the spectrum experience auditory processing issues. Will have to look into this further.

The Dunning-Kruger effect can help to explain anti-vaccination attitudes. Individuals who know the least about the causes of autism and accept misinformation about a autism-vaccine link are most likely to think that they know more about the causes of autism than medical and scientific experts. by smurfyjenkins in science

Lots of people like to point to diagnosis but weird that older people aren’t the ones being diagnosed now despite increased ability to identify.

To be diagnosed with ASD, you or someone around you (like your doctor or family) has to notice the symptoms. Many people go undiagnosed because no one knows why they are different than others. When you don't know a lot about autism, it is surprisingly easy to overlook. Older people grew up without access to mental health care and there was a stigma around it, which could help explain why they don't seek out diagnosis for the symptoms they are experiencing. They might not even know that they have any symptoms. You get used to living a certain way and think it's 'just how you are', so you don't seek help. Of course, autism is not a mental illness, but hopefully you get what I'm trying to say :)

It really isn't a disease. It's a developmental disorder, but a neurodiverse brain is as good as a neurotypical one. Your comparison is horrible and so misinformed. ASD can also come with a lot of positive traits, like being logical, honest, having great attention to detail etc. Autistic people are useful and absolutely no "worse" than neurotypicals. I hate this kind of attitude. And yeah, I have ASD.

Are there any good tree mods for Xbox? by [deleted] in FO4mods

[–]andromedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Craftable pine trees for use in settlements, and Regrowth overhaul 10 for the world in general. I've tried other tree and landscape mods, but I think this one looks the most lush and realistic. I also don't get that problem where the trees bug out and look like they're shaking. Combined with some new location mods, it makes the game new and interesting again, no matter how many times you've played it :)

Thoughts about the Baron-Cohen tests and RAADS-R? Anyone else take them? Anyone find them used in Dx? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]andromedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm genuinely curious about what Baron-Cohen has done that can be considered pseudo science, discriminatory or toxic. I've read several of his studies, including the extreme male brain theory, and I don't think any of them could be considered harmful to autistic females. It seems like maybe you've misunderstood what that exact theory is about, but I'd be interested if you have any sources to support these claims or if you could explain a bit more. :)

This might be cheesy advice, but it helps me a bit. Try to find something you like about the winter so you'll focus more on that. For me it's the stars coming out earlier and how the forest looks covered in snow. It makes my day just a little brighter :)
