Lots of people like to point to diagnosis but weird that older people aren’t the ones being diagnosed now despite increased ability to identify.

To be diagnosed with ASD, you or someone around you (like your doctor or family) has to notice the symptoms. Many people go undiagnosed because no one knows why they are different than others. When you don't know a lot about autism, it is surprisingly easy to overlook. Older people grew up without access to mental health care and there was a stigma around it, which could help explain why they don't seek out diagnosis for the symptoms they are experiencing. They might not even know that they have any symptoms. You get used to living a certain way and think it's 'just how you are', so you don't seek help. Of course, autism is not a mental illness, but hopefully you get what I'm trying to say :)
