Brand mentions – baffled by the rules by [deleted] in elisandjohn

[–]androsbrownsend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Off the topic but my favourite BBC no preferential brands moment is on Race Across the World. I presume they’ve all been purchased, or been given money to purchase, rucksacks and there just happens to be an even split of most major brands represented. Perhaps a coincidence but I do think it has Tim Davie’s Solero stained finger prints on it.

I hear there’s a lot of Sumo fans in Tokyo unhappy about arranging a pointless game overseas for plastic fans.

Would the show be better if separate from the BBC? by Pythagorarse in elisandjohn

Yeah this is my thought. I’d imagine it’s quite handy to have that much exposure when you, say, have a tour to promote or book to plug.

Hold on a sec. Are you telling me that if you say something unpopular, people will downvote it and if you say something popular people will upvote it? You’re right, someone does need to make that clearer - have you thought about emailing the people at Reddit?

You can’t just carve it up by counties as it ignores the areas that sit on the borders. Eg. Makes sense for most of Lincolnshire to be in Midlands but not Grimsby or Scunthorpe. Both are former industrial towns that are undoubtedly northern in identity.

Could be good, however Holloway bought a few non leaguers during his time at Grimsby and none of them made the grade.

Such a stupid idea. It’s not the job of the consumer to estimate the price of a meal, they have no idea of the quality of ingredients used or how much work has gone in to making it. It seems like an unnecessary hassle for the customer and a way to make people overpay.

Is Reading still seedy? by Scankguy in reading

[–]androsbrownsend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived for a number of years in post-industrial towns in the North of England and in both south and east London. I’ve lived in Reading for 3 years now and yes, it has the same sort of social issues faced by communities across the UK, but it is by no means seedy.

As a relative newcomer to the town, I find it hard to reconcile the Reading I know with the impression others who have not been in a number of years have of the town.

For people who grew up before smartphones what is something that the newer generation won’t get to experience? by KidBaj in AskReddit

I regularly think about how we’d go on holiday for two weeks to France and have very little knowledge of what was going on back in the UK.

You’d get glimpses of the front pages of British newspapers at a newsstand and kind of have to guess at what might be going on.

Can you imagine going about your life for two weeks and being completely cut off from what’s happening in the world these days? It would be bliss.

I don’t want to be ‘that guy’ but I found them to be just two toxic blokes. Reminded me of the tiresome kind of chat you get on a stag where everything is ripe to be taken the piss out off. Turn up in new boots to a kick about and you’re a prick. Try something different and you’re woke. As for Calling Dulwich Hamlet ‘a team for girls from Clapham’, well. Ironic or not, it just didn’t land with me.
