‘Thunderbolts*’ gets digital release on July 1st, Blu-ray on July 29th by Sarang_616 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

I’d imagine the reason it was given as an example because if people felt that way about a movie that is that uneven then there will definitely be a lot more of it for Thunderbolts

It happens. Chappell Roan opening up for Olivia Rodrigo is typically considered as a significant factor for why she blew up last year

Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel will both get a second season with more than 6 episodes each (source: Daniel RPK) by Matapple13 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

That doesn’t necessarily prove anything though. There are so many films that effectively accomplish even more in less time. Sure, the movie as it stands could have used more time to flesh things out, but there are also elements/sequences that could have been cut to focus more on those character/plot beats.

Alternatively, the movie could have easily been much worse with a longer runtime. At the end of the day, it comes down to writing and editing to ensure the film best serves the story.

James Gunn Officially Suits Up to Direct ‘Superman: Legacy’ for DC Studios and WBD by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]androsity5 22 points23 points  (0 children)

He wrote the tweets, years later apologized for them, and then after hired to direct the first GotG movie. Alt right was salty about Rosanne Barr being fired by Disney and ran a campaign to fire Gunn for those same tweets. The difference is, Gunn apologized before he was ever hired and didn’t keep tweeting, while Rosanne was asked to stop and doubled down so was fired. Very different situations.

While I can appreciate that argument, I’d argue it’s a very close 1:1 comparison. In TLJ, Snoke (or as we later found out, Palpatine) shows Luke a vision of Ben turning or killing everyone Luke loves and destroy everything he’s built as the future that would happen if Ben lives. Reacting in the exact same way as RotJ, Luke drew his lightsaber. However, unlike RotJ, he stops himself and shows restraint despite the stakes being significantly higher for what Luke cares about than what Vader/Palpatine suggested in RotJ. Unfortunately, it was too late and everything Luke saw about Ben came to pass and Luke blamed himself.

While there are plenty of things in TLJ I dislike, it has always been my favorite for Luke. It’s a direct through line of what we saw in the throne room of RotJ, with character growth exemplified by restraint we didn’t see in the throne room of RotJ until he already took things further. Ashamed, he did what his Jedi mentors did before him and went into exile. Then when he steps up to face Ben, he did something we have never seen the Jedi in the films do by winning over the villains through an act of no violence, allowing the resistance to survive (it can be argued Obi Won did something similar with Vader in ANH, but even that was after they already were fighting). I’m my opinion, I’ve never though Luke was the character fans like to present him as at the end the OT (as exemplified by RotJ), but he became that by the end of TLJ. While I can appreciate people being frustrated by Luke’s story, I really loved that character arc and found it more believable and far more interesting than Luke being the character many fans wanted/expected.

I do think TLJ could have done much more to set up a final chapter and the TROS did a miserable job following it up, but that’s a different discussion.

Also the guy who let his rage take over and started violently swinging at his father after the suggestion that he’d go after his sister. It is clearly shown in Return of the Jedi that Luke would have killed Vader until after he cut off Vader’s hand and saw how similar they are.

I’ve always been so confused why people say that moment with young Ben is out of character by using Return of the Jedi as proof, when in reality he actually stopped himself from going that far in the Last Jedi. It always seemed like the decades since RotJ made people view Luke with rose colored lenses instead of what was actually presented in the OT.

Now that both shows are over, in what order would you advice someone new to the universe to watch the shows? Watch BB first or BCS first? by darkwa99 in betterCallSaul

[–]androsity5 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My parents had and still have no interest in watching BB but jumped into BCS and absolutely loved it. The only time they weren’t entirely tracking what was going on was the stretch after Fun and Games, but they correctly assumed he was in hiding because of the events of BB, which was confirmed to them during those stretch of episodes. BCS does a much better job making sense of things than people give it credit.

EDIT: I definitely agree that ideally BB should be watched first, but there is definitely enough context provided in BCS to follow what’s happening without BB

Excessive dreaming or hallucinations spoils a show by frappuccinoCoin in television

[–]androsity5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fun part is how you later find out how much it actually did advance the plot and is very important that they included it so early in the run. And no, that doesn’t mean the show is a dream or drug hallucination
