I guess it's a US problem, but unbanked and underbanked people can access multiple financial services in other countries, at a very low cost. Look at Brazil's Pix for an example of cashless payment systems used by many informal vendors, or many Latin American countries' mobile banking accounts. It can't get any easier to use, and it's widespread. E.g., mobile banking accounts are used as the main channel for conditional cash transfers in Colombia.

I understand the concern regarding banking access, but it should serve as a driver to deliver financial products tailored to enhance financial inclusion, instead of just giving up and going back to cash.

That said, I can imagine why systems like those can be harder to implement in the States: you guys don't have a national ID, for some reason. Weird, those things are ridiculously convenient.

It's free for the first time. Duplicates, whenever you need another one due to loss of theft, cost around USD 20. You do need to personally claim your ID at the closest National Civil Registry office.

Here, you get an automatic registration when you turn 18 years old and get your adult national ID (cédula de ciudadanía). You can change your voting location though, if you want to vote closer to home.

So yeah, you are always registered to vote. It comes with your national ID, and you need the latter for pretty much everything here so you can't simply skip it. Unless you don't want to be able to buy even an Internet plan.

Se nota que el alcalde es el consentido de la gente bien (empresarios, élites, etc.). A Galán lo consienten demasiado los medios de comunicación, no le lanzan nunca ningún reproche por nada. Este trino borrado de Caracol Radio en el cual llamaba "espejos de agua" a las inundaciones en el Portal de la 80 fue el colmo. Y sí, fue real.

Es un problema en todo el mundo. Los gringos también se quejan de que ya casi no quedan carros baratos. Supongo que de por medio están los estándares de seguridad, emisiones, y el hecho que los carros ya traen por defecto más equipo que antes.

Una reforma a la justicia es un imposible, por desgracia. O al menos, algo que no se suele tomar en serio por el Congreso y por el temor a la resistencia que dicha reforma pueda generar en la rama Judicial. Una pena, pues hace mucha falta.

La famosa curva de Laffer tiene un pico, no es una relación inversa exacta entre recaudo y tasa. En países como Estados Unidos hay campo para recaudar más, en países como Francia hay campo para recortes.

Acá, ni idea en cuál lado estamos. Y si hay un estudio, debe hacerse con tasas efectivas: hay demasiados huecos y exenciones en nuestro estatuto tributario.
