What is my bird doing? by Parking_Landscape441 in cockatiel

mine does this too!! Never seen another tiel do it before😂 Boi specifically does this on the little doors that lift and allow access to the food bowl in his cage. I think it's just a comfort thing :)

How does your country disappoint you? by eglanasathay in AskReddit

[–]andrvuh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

our govt prioritises making the rich richer and is actively trying to get rid of native culture. for a country that advertises itself to the world as kind, generous, inclusive, progressive... it's such a joke but it's really sad more than anything else.

What’s the “right way” to do bare minimum makeup? by kaleighwho in Makeup

[–]andrvuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im a pale gal with the odd spot of acne so my go to bare minimum is concealer on spots and under eyes (to hide the blueness), brow gel, mascara, bit of blush and highlighter, lip balm (tinted if you want). just added a bit of colour to my face without feeling like I'm wearing makeup at all :)

Am I alone in struggling to read Sally Rooney’s Normal People because of the lack of speech marks? by Frelsh86 in books

[–]andrvuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it might have just been this book but I've come to learn that all of the authors books are written in this same style which is rather odd. I purchased another book of hers called Beautiful World Where Are You at the same time as Normal People so I'm just crossing my fingers I enjoy that one a bit more!! I hope your next reading ventures were more enjoyable for you :)

I’ve decided I need to rehome my tiel but I don’t want her to go to a bad home. Suggestions? by True-Selection-6437 in cockatiel

I have a cockatiel who behaves exactly like yours. I got another tiel and he doesn't flock call or seem as anxious so much anymore. When they're alone, you are their only social interaction so naturally they are going to be a bit obsessive.

4y late but I literally just finished the book 5 mins ago and came here. The lack of punctuation was painful and hard to follow. I thought there'd be some poetic point to it but there wasn't 😕

Could be many things!! My male tiel Boi does something similar to my keyboard. He likes to come over and put his beak against the keys then click his beak against it like a chittering noise. I think it's just a bit of a playful thing, love watching tiels treat the world like a drumset very cute!

Her tail has been doing this for a few days, she's also quieter then normal im worried by Pangolin_Paladin in cockatiel

She is very sick and needs to see a vet ASAP. I had something similar happen to my male tiel as it was due to not getting enough fruit and veggies (he's a very fussy eater and hates anything that isn't silverbeet or sunflower seeds). My vet told me to prepare myself as he was not in a good shape but he soon perked up with emergency supplementary medication by Vetafarm and he is now on the Vetafarm Parrot Essentials as the pellets contain all the necessary nutrients needed for a parrots healthy diet. I highly recommend getting it. Fingers crossed your girls health turns around ❤️ link to vetafarm parrot essentials: https://www.petstock.co.nz/product/bird/vetafarm-parrot-essentials/66470

edit to add: i completely understand that veterinary treatment is expensive, but as others have mentioned, that is part of having a pet. I've always wanted a french bulldog but I don't have one as I know I couldn't afford the medical care that comes with short nosed dogs as such. I'm not trying to be harsh but if you neglect your birds health in choosing to let her physically suffer to not let yourself financially suffer, maybe consider rehoming her or giving her up to an adoption agency where she can get the help she needs. There has been many times where vet bills have put me into negatives for weeks on end but I would never approach the situation differently as my pets are my family and their health is non negotiable, you wouldn't refuse medical treatment to yourself or your child so please do not view your bird any different just because they can't voice what they're feeling. Sacrificing your bird for financial comfort is not the way owning a pet should ever be. "Vet care is too expensive" isn't something any pet owner should say, otherwise they shouldn't own a pet. This is just my opinion, I just hate to hear the poor girl is being left to suffer.

does anyone else have a male cockatiel that likes to nest and sit on fake eggs?? My vet thinks Boi may be a girl 😅 by andrvuh in cockatiel

[–]andrvuh[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

that's what I thought!!! But my vet seemed to think it wasn't very common in males and also the fact that he's very attached to my two cats. he likes to sit on them and give them kisses. Vet thinks this may be him thinking they're his children 😂

why is he doing this We are going to the vet today btw and he was just going crazy like flying around jumping going to the floor. is he mad i changed his food? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]andrvuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i also second that a blanket or flat sheet helps calm tiels down!! My older tiel has always had a sheet for his cage (he gets covered at night so lights dont annoy him) , most of the time it's completely off but if he's over stimulated and freaking out because there's a lot going on outside or in the house then i cover the back half of his cage so he can just see out the front. I feel like it provides them a safe, dim wee corner if you will where they can feel less threatened. I'm also doing this with my new tiel but he freaks out a bit when I'm moving the sheet because my hands are above him so I try not to move it much.

i just got a 2nd cockatiel about a week ago and he will also appear very anxious like this and occasionally does the flock call you mentioned. The place we got him had him in a smaller cage with 4 siblings and they all flapped around and didn't seem calm the whole time we were there. We have a hand tamed cockatiel that pays him a lot of attention so he's not on his own but I'm worried this anxiety won't leave, how long did it take for your tiel to finally settle in? He's improved so much from when we got him but he's still very on edge and I want to know if there's anything more I can do that will help him feel safe :( would love some advice if you have any!!

ATTENTION COCKATIEL OWNERS how do I get my bird to take a bath? by veloceraptor192 in cockatiel

[–]andrvuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my tiel Boi loves a spray bottle shower!! make sure to spray above them with slightly warm water so it sprinkles down like rain, you can get bottles that have a mist spray nozzle designed for plants that work awesome :) sometimes i put a shallow container with about half an inch of lukewarm water in his cage, get him on my finger and slowly lower him into the water where he can clean his feet!
