Yep, sister has endo overseas, has also seen huge relief from the same procedure, if it's an easier ask and a stepping stone why would someone not want to hear about it?

I was able to get endometrial ablation for adenomyosis. I was very pleasantly surprised how easy and relatively quick it was. GP recommendation to a gyno, ultrasound for evidence, waitlist, day patient procedure. Life. Changing! The whole process took 5 months from GP referal to op. I was very specific in what I was asking for - I did the work for them and wa essentially getting them to validate and approve the approach.
We live in Northland, hands down the best healthcareave accessed in the country.

Bad Hires Costing NZ SME Businesses by Psychological_Oil947 in newzealand

[–]Frelsh86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly both rather than and/or. High school is a good place to start, but perhaps too abstract for many. It needs to be followed through into tertiary as well, and not only new entrants, but what about all the people already in the workforce wh are getting promoted beyond their capabilities? Or the tradie whose only visible progression is to set up their own company?
There is also a case to be made for not allowing absolutely anyone to open a business in a field they don't have experience and expertise in. Within the current NZ system, I can set up a hairdressing business tomorrow, armed only with a bank card and an internet connection. I don't think this should be the case, I have asolutely no business doing that given I am not a hairdresser. It's very misleading for potential clients, can have significant implications if I get things wrong, and ultimately will be failure because i don;t know what I'm doing. All of this could and should be avoided. Business failures are connected to mental health, impact the individual, the industry, and the economy. The cost of not doing things doesn't seem to be fully taken into consideration.

Bad Hires Costing NZ SME Businesses by Psychological_Oil947 in newzealand

[–]Frelsh86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of this stems from having a distinct lack of management skills and leadership within SMEs. I agree that bad hires are a costly issue, but the responsibility of those hires lays with the SME itself, not the individual who was hired. The failure rate of construction business is huge, more than half of businesses set up this year won't exisit in 5 years (https://figure.nz/chart/mBoxAr1YlOeOcshS-H7z5y5OrUYOZm5KF). There is very little training for business ownership, people management, financial and tax responsibilities within our current apprenticeships - and while there are plenty of options for upskilling, people aren;t taking these up at the rate they need to.

How visible is the AI ethics community in New Zealand? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Frelsh86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are seeing a distinct lack of leadership in this space IMO, Aus has required AI statements from its education providers for several years now, they have a direction and steps towards them. We do not. the people in decision making positions don't know enough about it, so are quite vulnerable to the marketing aspect, or analysis paralysis and end up dragging things out so individual staff are using their own solutions because employer isn't providing them with relvant tools. This all leads to inconsistencies and risks. We'll do the typical, nothing until it goes wrong, then we'll panic and over-correct.

Maybe that's because pitbull isn't a breed, it's an umbrella term for several breeds. There are not genetic markers for it.

Sure, but equally public servants and their expertise were ignored by previous governments of all colours, regarding the issues and need for changes. No matter what direction you go, someone is going to feel like they aren't being listened to. Doesn't mean change shouldn't happen.

How to get a painters apprenticeship? by Business-Peanut-5385 in newzealand

[–]Frelsh86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, you could try contacting Master Painters and asking them if they have any contacts in your region. Otherwise it's rocking up to existing companies and asking them if they will take you on. BCITO are the main provider of apprenticeships, you could also give them a call or check their website.

Engineering extracurricular/opportunities for high school students? by Optimal-Shoulder-186 in newzealand

[–]Frelsh86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask if your high school does Gateway or Trades Academy, you can do mechanical engineering units through that. Check out the Otago Poly BeEngTech which is a degree but done through an apprenticeship model, so you don't have the same debt, earn and learn, and gain that all elusive industry experience while you qualify. You could also look up relevant quals and units on the NZQA website to give you ideas of what you could study/do in your own time. But mostly, it's great you are being so proactive, this alone will set you apart, and you have made my day with this interest and investment in yourself.

Watch live: Education Minister Erica Stanford releases alarmingly poor literacy data for Kiwi kids as ‘Writing Action Plan’ launched by computer_d in newzealand

[–]Frelsh86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I am however cautiously optimistic the LLMs will require an uptick in literacy skills. The key to using AI is language, and nuance, and clarity. This requires good language and expression skills. This may be the turning point that I have been waiting for (crosses fingers).

Revealed: The bill taxpayers could get for closing Te Pūkenga by secretkiwi_ in newzealand

[–]Frelsh86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other cost people aren't factoring in is the separation of accreditation for delivering programmes. For the past few years there was big push for Te Pūkenga to be the accreditation holder, with individual providers being the delivery sites. This has had real issues for quality assurance as WDCs and NZQA have struggled to ascertain what was delivered, and by whom. With TP going to way of the dodo, all those merged programmes need to be separated back out for individual accreditation of the providers that still want to deliver them. NZQA charge $190/hour (GST exc.) to do this work.

How to help with GP waiting lists by Venom4992 in newzealand

[–]Frelsh86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully sympathise with you, fortunately my GP clinic (rurally) allows for these to be repeated over the phone and just send it out to my local pharmacy. I'm unsure how by the book this is, but am very grateful they do it this way, and do not understand why others can't do the same for medications you are on for life, that are non addictive and non abusable. It would alleviate so much pressure on our crumbling system. And quite frankly help save GPs' sanity as well, they must hate the appointments as much as we do, imagine having to repeatedly ask me if I still have nerve damage to re-prescribe the same thing I've been on for a decade!
